Download or read book The Human Faces of God written by Thom Stark and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does accepting the doctrine of biblical inspiration necessitate belief in biblical inerrancy? The Bible has always functioned authoritatively in the life of the church, but what exactly should that mean? Must it mean the Bible is without error in all historical details and ethical teachings? What should thoughtful Christians do with texts that propose God is pleased by human sacrifice or that God commanded Israel to commit acts of genocide? What about texts that contain historical errors or predictions that have gone unfulfilled long beyond their expiration dates? In The Human Faces of God, Thom Stark moves beyond notions of inerrancy in order to confront such problematic texts and open up a conversation about new ways they can be used in service of the church and its moral witness today. Readers looking for an academically informed yet accessible discussion of the Bible's thorniest texts will find a thought-provoking and indispensible resource in The Human Faces of God. ""Christians can ignore the facts that Stark brings into the light of day only if they want to be wrong."" --Dale C. Allison, Jr. author of Constructing Jesus ""The Human Faces of God is one of the most challenging and well-argued cases against the doctrine of biblical inerrancy I have ever read."" --Greg A. Boyd author of The Myth of a Christian Nation ""I learned so much from this book that I can strongly encourage anyone who is seeking to move from simplistic proof-texting to a comprehensive understanding of the Bible to read this book carefully."" --Tony Campolo author of Red Letter Christians ""This is must reading for Christians who have agonized over their own private doubts about Scripture--and for others who have given up hope that evangelical Christians can practice intelligent, moral interpretation of the Bible."" --Neil Elliot author of Liberating Paul ""[W]ith the help of this book, we may discover that the Bible--when we read it in all its diversity and vulnerability--does bring healing words to those who keep listening."" --Ted Grimsrud author of Embodying the Way of Jesus ""Stark's book effectively demonstrates how the Bible, in practice, is the most dangerous enemy of fundamentalists."" --James F. McGrath author of The Only True God ""Stark provides a model for theology that is committed to hearing the voice of the victims of history, especially the victims of our own religious traditions."" --Michael J. Iafrate PhD Cadidate, University of Toronto ""This book is the most powerful antidote to fundamentalism that I've ever read."" --Frank Schaeffer author of Crazy for God Thom Stark was a Fig Tree and Ledbetter scholar at Emmanuel School of Religion. His academic interests include second temple apocalyptic Judaism and Christian origins, as well as modern Christian and Islamic theologies of liberation.
Download or read book Rapture Revelations Jesus is Coming written by Bill Vincent and published by PublishAmerica. This book was released on 2013-02-04 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written and taught about the coming of Christ for His Church. Unfortunately, most of our modern day teachings on this most important doctrine are misleading, to say the very least. Bill Vincent has studied for years and now is releasing his findings in this book, Rapture Revelations. A careful scrutiny of the Scriptures will reveal the truth about the second coming of Christ, which we generally refer to as "the rapture". In Rapture Revelations, he has set out to correct the most obvious errors of the pre-tribulation doctrine and to establish the basic foundation for understanding the truth of the matter. Great care is taken to follow the guidelines of Scripture and the Biblical basis of doctrinal interpretation, precept upon precept and line upon line. This is the only method of interpretation used in the pages of Rapture Revelations. Since God Himself revealed His method of understanding doctrine, it is believed by the author to be the best method to use. Therefore, with Bible in hand, follow along with the Scriptures quoted and see if you don't find truth within its pages. In Rapture Revelations, Bill answers questions that many do not know the answers to. Be open and allow this page-turner to open up the biggest controversial subject of the rapture of Jesus Christ. If you are a lover of truth, you will enjoy this very basic presentation of Biblical facts concerning the doctrine of the "gathering together" of Christ's saints unto Himself.

Download or read book Disciples Literal New Testament written by Michael Magill and published by Reyma Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If You Love God's Word You Will Love This New Testament! The Disciples' Literal New Testament sets you free from our artificial 460 year old chapter and verse structure, replacing it with paragraphing that reflects the flow of thought in the original Greek writings. Paragraph headings make that flow of thought explicit to you, speeding your understanding of the NT books. This translation retains the writing style of the apostles themselves, rather than transforming their Greek ways of writing into an elegant or contemporary English writing style, as has been beautifully done so many times. It is the same translation as the author's New Testament TransLine, first published by Zondervan in 2002. Now you can read the New Testament as the original writers intended it, and see it with a clarity formerly available only to those who could carefully study their Greek New Testament. You can even see the difference in writing style between Matthew, Mark and Luke! Used along with your standard Bible version, you will profit from both methods of translation. *Easily grasp the relationship of the whole and the parts of each book with the big-picture overview outlines that use the words of the original author. *Gain quick insight into the flow of thought from descriptive paragraph headings that summarize the main point of each paragraph in its context. *You can visually follow the apostles' thinking because the 'Intelligent Paragraphing' visually displays their main and subordinate thoughts. *The hindrance to your understanding caused by our artificial chapter and verse structure is eliminated by paragraphing based on the Greek writings. *You will more fully appreciate the minds and thinking patterns and intent of the original writers because the translation corresponds more closely to their words and their grammar and their sentence structure. *Deepen and expand your understanding of the New Testament by meditating on the notes containing alternative renderings, explanations of what is being said, and different views of the meaning.

Download or read book The Mystery Revealed written by Larry D. EDWARDS and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mystery of Revelation is unfolded by the Prophet, the Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation is based on the prophetic themes of the Old Testament and the development of those themes in the Olivet Discourse. This commentary integrates the book of Zechariah, most of the book of Daniel, and several chapters from other visionary prophets with the message of Revelation. The world is in the throes of the labor pains of the end times. Bible prophecy alludes to the nations that will be of worldwide concern during these times: England, the United States, Russia, Israel, and several Middle East nations. Persecution of Christians and Jews, terrorism, and Satanism are prophesied. The Scriptures tell of a Great Middle East War that will occur at the end of the Great Tribulation where weapons of mass destruction may be used. The relevancy of prophecy to the current world situation is discussed throughout this commentary. During his medical career, the author has studied internal medicine, geriatrics, and infectious diseases and been credentialed in these fields. He has published in scientific journals in the discipline of infectious diseases. His medical fellowships include the American College of Physicians, the American College of Physician Executives, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has held several administrative positions at an executive level. He has published in Christian periodicals on the subject of "Medicine and the Scriptures" and authored a prior book, The Twelve Generations of the Creation with Biblical Timelines from Adam to Christ (Longwood, FL: Xulon Press, 2007). He is a past Dean of a Christian medical school. He has served on several boards of churches and Christian organizations. He has taught group Bible studies for over four decades. In order to better understand the Bible, he has studied Hebrew and Greek.

Download or read book Letters Pauline and Pastoral written by William Flewelling and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-05-02 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible Studies I chose to do came in answer to the request of my first congregation out of seminary. I consistently sought to present a serious, somewhat scholarly approach to the interested among my parishioners. I would take a book in the bible to study, assume it was written or edited to be read from the beginning and make sense to the reader in that format. I attempted to discover for myself and my group what the book sought to convey. In this volume, the study of Galatians (1981) and 1 Thessalonians (1989) followed that pattern exactly. The Pastoral Epistles (1989) treated the three letters both separately and as an extended effort by their author.
