Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History books tend to celebrate the successes, the geniuses, and the breakthroughs that have made our world what it is today. But what about the mistakes? This book examines the blunders and the goof-ups—both miniscule and colossal in scale—many of which have been lost to history. Readers of The World’s Worst Mistakes will find humor in the story of the priest who married a bride to her groom’s best man and cringe at the poor fool who thought he actually purchased the White House. They also will learn about mistakes that changed the course of history, like the sinking of the Titanic, the Exxon Valdez disaster, and the weapons of mass destruction that started a war but didn’t exist. Sidebars, a glossary, and books and websites in the further reading section are also included.

Investing can be a rollercoaster of highs and lows, and the investors detailed here show just how low it can go; stories from Warren Buffet, Bill Ackman, Chris Sacca, Jack Bogle, Mark Twain, John Maynard Keynes, and many more illustrate the simple but overlooked concept that investing is really hard, whether you're managing a few thousand dollars or a few billion, failures and losses are part of the game. Book The World s Worst Sailor

Download or read book The World s Worst Sailor written by Stephen D. (Doc) Regan and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2022-10-20 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S.D. “Doc” Regan, writer of maritime and nautical affairs, ineptly taught himself to sail upon his retirement as a professor and university dean. His original dinghy provided ample opportunity to capsize, founder on rocks, end up on the lee shore, and embarrass the alleged scholar in front of large crowds. Despite his scholarly papers and books, Doc sardonically proffers a humorous voyage through his trials and tribulations manning the helm. Described as the “worst sailor still alive to tell the tale”, Doc and his dinghy, ZONONA, and his West Wight Potter, GENNY SEA, have plied the lakes, rivers, and ponds of Iowa and Minnesota creating an inundation of laughable experiences. Boat builders and skilled sailors shake their heads and mutter that no one is THAT stupid. Always considered a bit of a class clown, Regan has baffled nuns, teachers, professors, and academia with his humor and self-deprecation. He has regaled many dock-side bars with his hilarity and wit as well as university gatherings. He is often sought as a speaker, especially by military and veteran groups. Doc has written “In Bitter Tempest: the biography of Admiral Frank Jack Fletcher”, “Pioneering Spirit: the history of Upper Iowa University”, and multitude of naval historical articles ironically because his doctorate and specialty is educational psychology to which he has written two dozen professional papers.

Book From Prayers to Players

  • Author : Irwin Brown
  • Publisher : Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.

Download or read book From Prayers to Players written by Irwin Brown and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Prayers to Players was written with the hope that black men would see beyond what is obvious with their physical eyes and into the world where the answers really are""the spiritual realm. It is the realm of the spirit where too many black men are deficient. Spiritual deficiencies lead to mental (thought) deficiencies because right and wrong begin in the spiritual realm. Put another way, what we hold in our hearts lead to what transpires in our lives. Our belief systems are based on negative information perpetuated by our own people. Not only is the negative information perpetuated but it is acted upon as truth. Our "truths" are at odds with the truths of the Lord; this is to our detriment. Our truths have led to and continue to lead to mass incarceration of black men, young and old. Our truths have led to and continue to lead to the mass murders of black men and teenagers at the hands of other black men and teenagers. Our truths have led to and continue to lead to single-parent homes and poverty. Our truths have led to impregnating black women we do not love and bear children we do not take responsibility for. Our truths do not allow us to take responsibility for ourselves, but it does allow us to blame other people for our mistakes and shortcomings. We fight an enemy, physically who is spiritually based; therefore, we cannot see "him", the devil. From Prayers to Players is not a condemnation of black men; it is meant to be a spiritual awakening for black men. It is not a denial of racism, but racism is a flammable liquid that we, black men, provide a match to. Put another way, if someone else provides the flammable liquid, racism could not ignite without us putting a match to it, (we are responsibility too). Most of our racism is aimed at ourselves; our self-perception is in agreement with demonic influences. A lack of self-love leads to a lack of love for others. Men, through God, must be willing to lead and mentor other black men. If we mentor men through God, black people will follow.
