Book Three Views on the Millennium and Beyond

Download or read book Three Views on the Millennium and Beyond written by Craig A. Blaising and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 1999 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are these the last days? Could Jesus return at any time to establish his thousand-year reign on earth? What is the nature of Christ's millennial kingdom referred to in the book of Revelation? What must happen before Jesus returns, and what part does the church play? Three predominant views held by evangelicals seek to answer these and related questions: premillennial, postmillennial, and amillennial. This book gives each view a forum for presentation, critique, and defense. Besides each contributor's personal perspective, various interpretations of the different positions are discussed in the essays. Three Views on the Millennium and Beyond lets you compare and contrast three important eschatological viewpoints to gain a better understanding of how Christianity's great hope, the return of Jesus, is understood by the church. The Counterpoints series provides a forum for comparison and critique of different views on issues important to Christians. Counterpoints books address two categories: Church Life and Bible and Theology. Complete your library with other books in the Counterpoints series.

Download or read book The Third Millennium written by David Walsh and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 1999-09-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This provocative meditation on the turn of the millennium explores the significance that a celebration of Christ's birth can have beyond the Christian community. Writing from the perspective of Christian philosophy, David Walsh ponders the emergence of modern civilization from the medieval Christian past, concluding that Christian theology grounds the dominant ideas of modern society. He professes the importance and promise of Christianity while rejecting the Gnosticism, advocated by Harold Bloom and others, that places the divine within the self. Affirming Christ's place at the heart of civilization, Walsh argues that the Christian faith has relevance beyond its own boundaries for all traditions that find their common ground in reason. This contemplative book asserts that the Christian millennial jubilee has meaning for all and that it points the way toward the fullness of life in this world as well as in eternity.

Book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2

Download or read book Disease Control Priorities Third Edition Volume 2 written by Robert Black and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-04-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) by the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) focuses on maternal conditions, childhood illness, and malnutrition. Specifically, the chapters address acute illness and undernutrition in children, principally under age 5. It also covers maternal mortality, morbidity, stillbirth, and influences to pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. Volume 3 focuses on developments since the publication of DCP2 and will also include the transition to older childhood, in particular, the overlap and commonality with the child development volume. The DCP3 evaluation of these conditions produced three key findings: 1. There is significant difficulty in measuring the burden of key conditions such as unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, nonsexually transmitted infections, infertility, and violence against women. 2. Investments in the continuum of care can have significant returns for improved and equitable access, health, poverty, and health systems. 3. There is a large difference in how RMNCH conditions affect different income groups; investments in RMNCH can lessen the disparity in terms of both health and financial risk.

Book AN Optimist s Tour of the Future

Download or read book AN Optimist s Tour of the Future written by Mark Stevenson and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-02-03 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything, a smart and entertaining guide to the future of civilization When unexpectedly confronted with his own mortality, Mark Stevenson-a writer, deep-thinker, and stand-up comedian-began to ponder what the future holds for our species. "The past is a foreign country," writes Stevenson. "By my analysis it's a bit like France-in that I've been to parts of it and eaten some nice food there. But the future? The future is an unknown territory-and there isn't a guidebook." Thus, his ambition was born. Stevenson set out simply, asking, "What's next?" and then traveled the globe in pursuit of the answers. Along the way, he visited the Australian outback to visit the farmers who can save us from climate change, met a robot with mood swings, and talked to the Spaniard who's putting a hotel in space. While some might be overwhelmed, or even dismayed by the looming realities of genome sequencing, synthetic biology, a nuclear renaissance, and carbon scrubbing, Stevenson remains, well, optimistic. Drawing on his singular humor and storytelling to break down these sometimes complicated discoveries, An Optimist's Tour of the Future paints a wonderfully readable, and completely enthralling portrait of where we'll be when we grow up- and why it's not so scary. • Author : Mark Manolopoulos
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2018-11-21
  • ISBN : 1527522121

Download or read book Radical Neo Enlightenment written by Mark Manolopoulos and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-21 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radical Neo-Enlightenment is a spirited response to the multiple and accelerating crises we face today. The provocative and ambitious work contends that we require a “radical neo-Enlightenment” to counter these systemic crises. The driving idea is that Reason must now be reclaimed as a powerful force for positive social change. Along the way, the book criticizes philosophy’s failings and restores its noble compulsion to change the world. Radical Neo-Enlightenment then criticizes conventional religion and advances a reconstructed faith that would be an ally of socially-transformative Reason. It then marks out practical core steps that would lead to rational global transformation. While the book is introductory and accessible in scope and style, it confronts and develops the thought of some of the most important subversive thinkers of the past and present.
