Book Prophetic Witness

Download or read book Prophetic Witness written by Heinrich Bedford-Strohm and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2011 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of religious prophetic witness in the public discourse of modern civil societies is a vital question, not only for the churches, but for society as a whole. Is it still appropriate for churches to make use of prophetic witness as a mode of public discourse in contemporary democratic societies? Can biblical tradition be a referential source for prophetic public statements of the churches in highly debated political questions? Or must public discourse in pluralistic societies be strictly grounded in purely reason-based arguments? This book deals with these questions in a multi-disciplinary perspective, looking at historical settings of biblical texts and discussing contemporary issues and contexts. God spoke the first promise of gospel hope, sent his Son into this fallen world, and commissioned his Spirit to empower his church for witness. Until the day Christ returns, God has called his people to participate in his mission through evangelism, apologetics, church planting, cultural engagement, gospel suffering, and many other activities that faithfully communicate gospel hope in Christ. This practical introduction provides a biblical framework for understanding the church's role in God's mission. It reviews the biblical story of God's mission, draws insights from the church's witness since Pentecost, and studies aspects of contemporary Christian witness. Download or read book Powered by Faith written by Tapiwa Praise Mapuranga and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-11-30 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the impact of Pentecostalism on the participation of women in business in Harare, Zimbabwe. Chapters in this volume trace the history of women’s participation in business and highlight how Pentecostalism serves as a major motivating factor. The central argument is that there is a way in which selected women’s businesses are “powered by the Spirit.” Contributors to the volume utilize case studies of selected Pentecostal churches and ministries to highlight how the religious ideologies of these churches galvanize them to engage in business. They also draw patterns of similarity and difference across the different Pentecostal churches. The volume demonstrates how Pentecostalism both facilitates and militates against women’s participation in business concerning a specific setting in Zimbabwe.
