Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel of Christ Divine mind and will, is virtually anticipated in them; so wonderful, that most men pass them by as too good to be true; so potent with life and grace, that the Christian has often to ask himself if they are really meant for him. P1ain1y, if they are true, they are the entire Gospel; containing all we need to know about God, and Christ, and ourselves; not what may be ours to-morrow, but what is given to us to-day - whether we know or care. Book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel in the Gospels Classic Reprint written by William Porcher Dubose and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel in the Gospels The title of the present volume is intended to indicate that, while it aims to be an exposition of the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ, it does not purpose to be a whole or final exposition of that Gospel. It looks forward definitely to a further and fuller expression of it. We have here to do with the Gospel, not in its developed utterance as that of the New Testament or of the Church, but only so far as it is contained in our canonical Gospels or can by ourselves be deduced from them. My own position is that, while the Gospel as an act or fact is complete in Jesus Christ Himself, the rationale of its operation in human salvation is best interpreted and stated by St. Paul. My true objective point has therefore been the completer construction of the Gospel according to St. Paul, to be treated in a volume to follow the present one. That the epistles of St. Paul are an interpretation only, and not a transformation nor even an essential modification, of the Gospel of our Lord is - next to the hope of casting a single new ray of light upon the nature of the Gospel itself - the point which I have most at heart to prove in the end. Book A New Gospel Classic Reprint

Download or read book A New Gospel Classic Reprint written by A. Fassler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A New Gospel The Christ came to me one day that I was bowed down in sorrow over the sins and imperfections of our time. For in my youth I had dreamed of an ideal country, a Christian land, and 10, what I found all around me during twenty years of search, had so little of His Spirit that it seemed to me as a pagan land, where He was unknown. For, since my younger years, I tried to walk in His steps, as the shadow follows the substance, and, as I came nearer to Him, He came nearer to me, until He had His abode within my heart and was as one with me. When He abided with me and we had become more as one soul, when He had imparted to me some of His Spirit, He revealed Himself more and more. I had sowed in me the seeds of His Spirit and I reaped in return a consciousness like His. In time I became so as one with Him that I could almost see things as He would have seen them, and judge them with His judgment. Then we set out together in the walks of men, saw things as they were, and, in the silence of my conscience I heard His Spirit pronounce its judgment on our age and their shortcomings. I submitted to Him the burning questions of our time, our doubts and perplexities and, out in the world or in the silence of soul communions, He told me His opinions on them. He told me also of Himself, His mission and of the mistakes men had made about Him. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Gospel in All Lands 1893 Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel in All Lands, 1893 Let us not be guilty of fearing for our Bible. It has survived the shocks of eighteen centuries, and now it sways more human hearts than ever. In our own time controversies have broken over it like fierce summer atoms, which only brighten and enrich the face of the landscape they threaten to ruin. For a little while the theory of evolution was confidently affirmed to have shaken a strong ground for our belief in the Bible; it was soon made clear that it had only strengthened it. For fifty years unsparing criticism played upon the historical Christ it only brought him nearer and made his glory more visible to men. Hostile investigation has contributed to our knowledge of the New Testament and has left its credit and authority unimpaired, and now the Old Testament is passing through the same fire. Book The Whosoever Gospels

Download or read book The Whosoever Gospels written by Jim Henkel and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-06-05 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Whosoever Gospels are for whosoever may read the testimony of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John regarding Jesus of Nazareth. Taken and adapted from The Holy Bible American Standard Edition, The Whosoever Gospels retain this wonderful word, whosoever, throughout the telling by the four evangelists. Dropped by many "modern" English language translations in favor of a more contemporary idiom, the incredible inclusive nature of the term is lost to the eyes and ears and hearts of whosoever reads the good news about the Jesus. No other expression means "me too," quite like a good, old-fashioned whosoever: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." This "Reader's Edition" of "The Whosoever Gospels" contains none of the "Bibleness" that can serve as a roadblock to reading the Gospels. There are no double columns, no chapter and verse numbers, no notes or study helps, no commentary, no marginal renderings, no lists of related passages. There is just the Gospel, the whole Gospel, and nothing but the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Book The Gospel Awakening Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gospel Awakening Classic Reprint written by Dwight Lyman Moody and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-08-08 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel Awakening It is well known that newspapers aim to publish what their readers want, and the fact that a great daily journal in the eminently busy city of Chicago, should devote two pages a day to the proceedings of the Christian Convention, is a deeply significant attestation of the general interest taken in the proceedings. Not only the religious element of the city took a profound interest in them, but thousands of ministers and laymen from without, came to Chicago for the sole purpose of attending the meetings. Could they have been held in the Tabernacle, made sacred by the great revival meetings of a few years ago, the reports of which are given in this volume, it would have been Crowded to over ow. But that temporary structure long since disappeared, and Farwell Hall, with its hallowed associations, afforded the best attainable accommodations. Book The Gospel According to Christ

Download or read book The Gospel According to Christ written by Charles Carroll Albertson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-10 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gospel According to Christ: And Other Sermons One beauty of this book is found in the fact that Mr. Albertson does not keep the apostles forever on trial for perjury, but sends them about doing good everywhere. This is not a volume of apologetics. It is rather a new and gentle reincarnation of New Testament utterances. It does not advance upon us with the fixed bayonet: of the old heavy infantry of compulsion; but it glides quietly along in front of us, beckoning us onward and upward to higherlevels of life and wider horizons of privilege. It is a Gos pel of this time and for this people. It credits our age with having reached the point where gravitation, shifting, turns the other way. The public mind is fed and overfed on secular informa tion and stimulated with brilliant fiction. The ever rattling presses daily carpet every city and town with reading matter of the earth, earthy. Magazines and textbooks familiarize us with a vast nomenclature, partly scientific and wholly secular, till there seems neither opportunity nor desire to feed or develop our spiritual natures. This volume, waving an olive branch and offering peace, slides into the moving mass of literature, and pro poses to do its full share in meeting the essential wants of the people. It makes no apology, for it offers no affront. It stands on its own feet. It extends its own hands. Beneath its feet is the solid rock of Divine Revelation. In its hands are peace for time and life for eternity. When you have read its pages. Applied its precepts, and appropriated its revelations, I am sure you will be better and stronger. C. H. Fowler. Book On to Christ the Gospel of the New Era Classic Reprint

Download or read book On to Christ the Gospel of the New Era Classic Reprint written by Edwin a McAlpin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-07-28 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On to Christ, the Gospel of the New Era The object of this study is to bring home to all thoughtful minds some of the problems of the Church in dealing with the opportunities of the New Era. An effort is made in the first half of this book to point out the failures of the past, and then in the last half we try to show how the Church can meet these problems in a practical way. The problem is outlined in the first chapter and then different phases of it are discussed with suggestions of how they should be met in the following chapters. In the Second Part we make some practical sugges tions on the reconstruction of the Church's life and thought. Some of these solutions may seem radical, but it must be remembered that structural weaknesses cannot be permanently repaired by superficial patches. The structure must be rebuilt and the weakness must be climi nated. It may be impossible to get unanimous support for suggestions that seem to affect whole ecclesiastical organisations, but no other alternative seems adequate to meet the needs of the New Era. Concern, not only for the gentlemen who are thus placed by the pub lic in so very false a position, but for the com munity in which a state of things exists which can be in any way likened to that which is por trayed in that most ancient, but I am per suaded, most truthful record. Is it possible that there is such a man as Phernandiwud among us? I cannot believe it. I know of no such man. Do Pahdees, and Hittites, and Hammerites, and the sect of Smalphri among the Dimmichrats, rule any city in our land? Far be it from us to confess it. Can there be men among us, like those in the remote and long-forgotten land of Unculpsalm, who would sacrifice their country to the everlasting Nig gah? Pray devote a little of your valuable time and space to disabusing the public mind of such an absurd notion.
