Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Established in 1817 as a cannon foundry, the West Point Foundry at Cold Spring in the Hudson Highlands was one of the first major industrial sites in the United States. The foundry and its many iron products, most significantly artillery and other ordnance, played a central role in the nation's industrial development. At its peak during the Civil War, the foundry manufactured cannons of several types, including Dahlgrens, Rodmans, and--most prolifically--Parrott rifles, which were widely employed and crucial to the Union victory. Among other products were the first American steam locomotives, marine engines and boilers for early steamships and warships, sugar mills, aqueduct pipes, dynamite and disappearing guns, architectural columns, and industrial machinery. Rare photographs and other images, mostly from the 19th century, trace the foundry's story from its early years through the period of Civil War production to its eventual status as a site of archaeological excavation.

Book My River Chronicles

Download or read book My River Chronicles written by Jessica DuLong and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-09-08 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every trial or tribulation, there is an opportunity that can bring us closer to God and to our goals when we allow God to take control. God, Take Over; I Am Finished is a cry for mercy and divine intervention when suffering seems unfair and you realize that no one else can help you. God, Take Over is based on the author's tribulations and triumphs during her wilderness experience as she struggled, willingly and sometimes unwillingly, to submit to God's will. It reveals how she passed through the storm and survived. Its principal message lies in the realization and fact that where human senses, strength, power, abilities, knowledge, and intelligence end, God's supremacy begins. By applying her experiences and the Word of God, Catherine Agada shows you how to discover divine strength in weakness; peace in chaos, and His love in suffering. She inspires and teaches you to love better, live happier, forgive faster, pray efficiently, and increase faith. God, Take Over; I Am Finished can restore hope and improve your relationships with God and man.

Book John Ferguson Weir

Download or read book John Ferguson Weir written by Betsy Fahlman and published by University of Delaware Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This monograph is the first scholarly study of John Ferguson Weir (1841-1926). Weir has been long overshadowed by his father, Robert Walter Weir (1803-89), and his Impressionist brother, Julian Alden Weir (1852-1919). This volume definitively restores John's reputation. Two major contributions - as an artist and as a teacher - insure his prominent place in the history of American art. In his paintings, he tackled significant subject matter of broad cultural resonance. Weir's forty-four-year-long career as director of Yale University's School of the Fine Arts also represents a seminal contribution to the nation's cultural history." "John Ferguson Weir: The Labor of Art contains over 140 illustrations, seven in color. In addition, a detailed chronology of Weir's life is contained in an appendix."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved
