Book Alphabets and the Mystery Traditions

Download or read book Alphabets and the Mystery Traditions written by Judith Dillon and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reveals the esoteric mysteries encoded in the order of the alphabet • Explores the secrets hidden in our alphabet and how each letter represented a specific stage on the alchemical path toward enlightenment • Divides our alphabet’s sequence of letters into three distinct parts: the first representing Earth and the natural year, the second the Underworld and the hero’s journey, and the third the Heavens and astronomical cycles • Reveals how the ancient secrets encoded in the numerical order of the alphabet can be found in Mystery Traditions and divination systems throughout the world Our alphabet hides a Mystery older than its magic of turning sound into shapes. Secrets lie in the choice of objects chosen to represent early alphabet letters and their order, a pattern inherited by numerous traditions, an alchemical spell to return the sun from the dark and guide the soul toward enlightenment. Revealing the spell hidden in our alphabet, Judith Dillon explores the importance of the placement of each letter in early alphabets and how each letter represented a specific step on the alchemical path of self-transformation. She investigates the alphabet’s spread around the world, beginning in Egypt and then spreading through Hebrew, Greek, and other ancient systems of writing and divination. These include Germanic Runes, Celtic Oghams, Tarot cards, the I Ching, and the wisdom of Mother Goose. Comparing the mythic attributes of many traditions, the author reveals the commonality of a numerical placement of symbols and how the hidden message was adapted by multiple peoples using objects and shapes from their own traditions. Examining the esoteric wisdom encoded in the alphabet, Dillon divides the numerical sequence of letters into three distinct parts. The first family of letters represents the Earth and describes the cycle of the natural year. The second family represents the Underworld and symbolizes the hero’s journey through judgments and death into the light of day. The third represents the Heavens and its astronomical cycles. Together, our alphabet symbols are a spell of alchemical stages on a path toward the light. Hidden in plain sight, our alphabet represents a transmission of ancient wisdom, the great alchemical Mystery of transforming dark earth into shining gold, of releasing the soul from the bonds of matter into the gold of enlightenment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: London became an international center for import and export trade in the late Middle Ages. The export of wool, the development of luxury crafts and the redistribution of goods from the continent made London one of the leading commercial cities of Europe. While capital for these ventures came from a variety of sources, the recirculation of wealth through London women was important in providing both material and social capital for the growth of London's economy. A shrewd Venetian visiting England around 1500 commented about the concentration of wealth and property in women's hands. He reported that London law divided a testator's property three ways allowing a third to the wife for her life use, a third for immediate inheritance of the heirs, and a third for burial and the benefit of the testator's soul. Women inherited equally with men and widows had custody of the wealth of minor children. In a society in which marriage was assumed to be a natural state for women, London women married and remarried. Their wealth followed them in their marriages and was it was administered by subsequent husbands. This study, based on extensive use of primary source materials, shows that London's economic growth was in part due to the substantial wealth that women transmitted through marriage. The Italian visitor observed that London men, unlike Venetians, did not seek to establish long patrilineages discouraging women to remarry, but instead preferred to recirculate wealth through women. London's social structure, therefore, was horizontal, spreading wealth among guilds rather than lineages. The liquidity of wealth was important to a growing commercial society and women brought not only wealth but social prestige and trade skills as well into their marriages. But marriage was not the only economic activity of women. London law permitted women to trade in their own right as femmes soles and a number of women, many of them immigrants from the countryside, served as wage laborers. But London's archives confirm women's chief economic impact was felt in the capital and skill they brought with them to marriages, rather than their profits as independent traders or wage laborers.

Book The Alphabet Versus the Goddess

Download or read book The Alphabet Versus the Goddess written by Leonard Shlain and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1999-09-01 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking book proposes that the rise of alphabetic literacy reconfigured the human brain and brought about profound changes in history, religion, and gender relations. Making remarkable connections across brain function, myth, and anthropology, Dr. Shlain shows why pre-literate cultures were principally informed by holistic, right-brain modes that venerated the Goddess, images, and feminine values. Writing drove cultures toward linear left-brain thinking and this shift upset the balance between men and women, initiating the decline of the feminine and ushering in patriarchal rule. Examining the cultures of the Israelites, Greeks, Christians, and Muslims, Shlain reinterprets ancient myths and parables in light of his theory. Provocative and inspiring, this book is a paradigm-shattering work that will transform your view of history and the mind.

Book excerpt: Phoenician Guide to the Process of Self-Creation Almost everyone in the western world is familiar with the 'Alphabet', although not many people are aware of its origins and purpose for which it was 'created'. The modern Alphabet, which we use to form words and write stories, is an adaptation of the Sacred Phoenician Alphabet, believed to have been conceived within the womb of the androgynous Goddess of Creation, before Life on earth began. This first phonetic Alphabet is now assumed to have been invented by the Phoenicians over 4000 years ago as a guide to the 'Process of Self-Creation' which takes us on an Inner Journey into our Heart where we discover the Miraculous Essence of each Symbol and Letter of the Sacred Alphabet is already within us. The Manual provides an insight into the Magical Universe of the ancient Canaanites, the ancestors of the Phoenicians who had lived and fished along the Lebanese coast since around 7000B.C. However upon discovering the incredible 'Truth' concealed within the Symbols of the Sacred Alphabet they were able to turn any apparent adversity to their advantage, and so they became known as the 'Phoenicians', resembling the Legendary Phoenix arising from the ashes of a fire. The original meaning of the Sacred Symbols is explained in the Manual using Poetry, Coloured Illustrations, and Words that when Spoken induce the Sensation of Passion within our Heart, Soul and Body; which to the Phoenicians is the 'Path to Enlightenment'. And once we are aware of the Pure Magical Light of the Self-Reproducing Goddess within our self our misconceptions and deluded perception of 'Reality' is changed forever. The information in the Manual concerning the significance of the Symbols and Letters of the Sacred Phoenician Alphabet is the author's own interpretation, which is based on over fifty years of research and teaching Holistic Healing Methods and Spiritual Traditions in the UK and Internationally.
