Book excerpt: An art expert takes a critical look at restaurant menus—from style and layout to content, pricing and more—to reveal the hidden influence of menu design. We’ve all ordered from a restaurant menu. But have you ever wondered to what extent the menu is ordering you? In May We Suggest, art historian and gastronome Alison Pearlman focuses her discerning eye on the humble menu to reveal a captivating tale of persuasion and profit. Studying restaurant menus through the lenses of art history, experience design and behavioral economics, Pearlman reveals how they are intended to influence our dining experiences and choices. Then she goes on a mission to find out if, when, and how a menu might sway her decisions at more than sixty restaurants across the greater Los Angeles area. What emerges is a captivating, thought-provoking study of one of the most often read but rarely analyzed narrative works around.

Book 2022 Washington D C Restaurants

Download or read book 2022 Washington D C Restaurants written by Andrew Delaplaine and published by Gramercy Park Press. This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Andrew Delaplaine is the ultimate Restaurant Enthusiast. With decades in the food writing business, he has been everywhere and eaten (almost) everything. “Unlike the ‘honest’ reviews on sites like Yelp, this writer knows what he’s talking about. He’s a professional, with decades in the business, not a well-intentioned but clueless amateur.” = Holly Titler, Los Angeles “This concise guidebook was exactly what I needed to make the most of my limited time in town.” = Tanner Davis, Milwaukee This is another of his books with spot-on reviews of the most exciting restaurants in town. Some will merit only a line or two, just to bring them to your attention. Others deserve a half page or more. “The fact that he doesn’t accept free meals in exchange for a good review makes all the difference in his sometimes brutally accurate reviews.” = Jerry Adams, El Paso “Exciting” does not necessarily mean expensive. The area’s top spots get the recognition they so richly deserve (and that they so loudly demand), but there are plenty of “sensible alternatives” for those looking for good food handsomely prepared by cooks and chefs who really care what they “plate up” in the kitchen. For those with a touch of Guy Fieri, Delaplaine ferrets out the best food for those on a budget. That dingy looking dive bar around the corner may serve up one of the juiciest burgers in town, perfect to wash down with a locally brewed craft beer. Whatever your predilection or taste, cuisine of choice or your budget, you may rely on Andrew Delaplaine not to disappoint. Delaplaine dines anonymously at the Publisher’s expense. No restaurant listed in this series has paid a penny or given so much as a free meal to be included. Bon Appétit!

Book Food and Wine Memories Washington DC Area Part 1

Download or read book Food and Wine Memories Washington DC Area Part 1 written by Jose Albuquerque and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-28 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My wife and I have been going to restaurants in the Washington DC area for many years. Enjoying food and wine has been one of our hobbies and I cherish the good moments we have had dining out, many times in the company of our children, grandchildren, and friends. This is the first in a series of books in which we share our food and wine memories form our visits to Washington DC area restaurants. It is not intended to be a restaurant guide, although it can also be used as such. As the title implies, it is a book of memories. It may also contribute to retain the history of restaurants which, in some cases have already disappeared, or will someday disappear.Part 1 of this series covers four of the most prominent restaurant groups in the area: José Andrés' ThinkFoodGroup; Ashok Bajaj's Knightsbridge Group; Fabio Trabocchi's Restaurant Group; Robert Wiedmaier's RW Group. For each of the twenty-five restaurants addressed in the book, we describe menu items and wines we have tried, providing background and comments as appropriate. Notes and photos that I have been collecting for many years are the basis for this book. Even if the quality of some photos is poor, I chose to include them to retain a worth keeping memory.
