He needs the time to reflect on the many questions that continue to plague him--questions about life, medicine, and a recurring dream from his past as a musician. Instead, his leisurely north woods trip to join friends starts out with a suspicious tire blow-out and quickly escalates into a series of events that spin his life out of control. While wandering in the woods at camp, Derek experiences an altered state, entering a vortex that expands his understanding, but also makes him aware that someone seeks his demise. After leaving camp, he realizes that the incident seems to have remarkably enhanced his skills.Eager to see if the vortex can help him find the beautiful stranger haunting his dreams, and to answer the questions that trouble him, Derek knows he must go back. Will Derek find the answers he seeks, or will someone else find him first?

Book An Equation for Vortex Motion Including Effects of Buoyancy and Sources with Applications to Tornadoes

Download or read book An Equation for Vortex Motion Including Effects of Buoyancy and Sources with Applications to Tornadoes written by Robert C. Costen and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new equation is derived for the motion of vorticity in a general fluid, including the effects of viscosity, compressibility, nonhomogeneity, and nonconservative forces. The equation holds, in particular, for vortices which may not move with the fluid. A linearized form of this equation is applied to tornado cyclones and to the twin tornado of April 11, 1965, near Elkhart, Indiana. It is shown that the displacement of tornado cyclones to the right of the mean tropospheric winds may be accounted for by the upward efflux of fluid from the cyclone into the jet stream. Also, the retarded revolution rate of the twin tornado may be due in part to an attractive "buoyancy" force acting on the partially rarefied cores of the pair.

Book Theoretical Prediction of the Effects of Vortex Flows on the Loading Forces and Moments of Slender Aircraft

Download or read book Theoretical Prediction of the Effects of Vortex Flows on the Loading Forces and Moments of Slender Aircraft written by J. Richard Spahr and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical method based on slender-body theory is presented for the stepwise calculation of vortex paths in the presence of wing-body combinations and the determination of the load distributions, forces, and moments on the combinations due to the vortices. Comparisons of calculated and experimental results indicate that the vortex paths and the forces induced by the vortices can be closely predicted by the calculative method only for slender configurations. The total forces and moments, however, in many cases can be predicted adequately for nonslender as well as slender triangular-wing configurations.

Download or read book Magnetic Vortex Effect written by Gabriel Ramirez and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-17 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are some (if any) materials that block magnetic fields? What is the electrostatic effect? Why would the united nations and the CDC each use a flat earth map without Antarctica? If you flip a magnet and the vortex effect is inverted, would that not suggest that each side's actual vortex spins the same way? Like a straight tube rather than a twisted one? Can magnets make fruits and vegetables grow bigger? Is it a mystery that a potential cure for cancer using sound vibrations is silenced? When pharma corporations are making billions for their poison, why would they ever allow a cure to reach the masses? The vortex shape is well shown. Would some people use the word vortex to describe something that has movement, whereas the magnetic vortex shape moves in response? How does vortex relate to wave attributes? The city of Jericho in the Bible had its walls tumbled by the sound of shouting and horns? What are some excellent ways to raise your vibration, frequency, and energy? What is the difference between magnetism and gravity?

Book The Year of Magical Thinking

Download or read book The Year of Magical Thinking written by Joan Didion and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: [In this book, the author] explores an intensely personal yet universal experience: a portrait of a marriage - and a life, in good times and bad - that will speak to anyone who has ever loved a husband or wife or child. Several days before Christmas 2003, John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion saw their only daughter, Quintana, fall ill with what seemed at first flu, then pneumonia, then complete septic shock. She was put into an induced coma and placed on life support. Days later - the night before New Year's Eve - the Dunnes were just sitting down to dinner after visiting the hospital when John Gregory Dunne suffered a massive and fatal coronary. In a second, this close, symbiotic partnership of forty years was over. Four weeks later, their daughter pulled through. Two months after that, arriving at LAX, she collapsed and underwent six hours of brain surgery at UCLA Medical Center to relieve a massive hematoma. This ... book is Didion's attempt to make sense of the "weeks and then months that cut loose any fixed idea I ever had about death, about illness ... about marriage and children and memory ... about the shallowness of sanity, about life itself."--Jacket.

Book Physics and Materials Science of Vortex States Flux Pinning and Dynamics

Download or read book Physics and Materials Science of Vortex States Flux Pinning and Dynamics written by R. Kossowsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-04-30 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A discussion by an assembly of expert physicists and materials scientists, embracing the specific features of vortex-pin interactions, the modes of different kinds of vortex motion under the action of Lorenz force, and the mechanisms of dissipation. The effects of transport and screening currents, superimposed AC magnetic fields and the microwave electromagnetic irradiation on vortex behaviour define the electromagnetic properties of a high-Tc superconducting material. The mechanisms driving the depinning of vortices and the dynamics of their motion determine the critical current density and its file dependence, the mechanisms of energy dissipation, and linear and nonlinear resistivity, AC losses, and noise in electronic circuitry. The book therefore has direct implications for the development of new devices and components in electrical engineering, modern electronics, computer technology, and microwave communication.

Book Vorticity and Vortex Dynamics

Download or read book Vorticity and Vortex Dynamics written by Jie-Zhi Wu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-04-20 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive and intensive monograph for scientists, engineers and applied mathematicians, as well as graduate students in fluid dynamics. It starts with a brief review of fundamentals of fluid dynamics, with an innovative emphasis on the intrinsic orthogonal decomposition of fluid dynamic process, by which one naturally identifies the content and scope of vorticity and vortex dynamics. This is followed by a detailed presentation of vorticity dynamics as the basis of later development. In vortex dynamics part the book deals with the formation, motion, interaction, stability, and breakdown of various vortices. Typical vortex structures are analyzed in laminar, transitional, and turbulent flows, including stratified and rotational fluids. Physical understanding of vertical flow phenomena and mechanisms is the first priority throughout the book. To make the book self-contained, some mathematical background is briefly presented in the main text, but major prerequisites are systematically given in appendices. Material usually not seen in books on vortex dynamics is included, such as geophysical vortex dynamics, aerodynamic vortical flow diagnostics and management.

Book Prediction of Transonic Vortex Flows Using Linear and Nonlinear Turbulent Eddy Viscosity Models

Download or read book Prediction of Transonic Vortex Flows Using Linear and Nonlinear Turbulent Eddy Viscosity Models written by Robert E. Bartels and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Threee-dimensional transonic flow over a delta wing is investigated with a focus on the effect of transition and influence of turbulence stress anisotropies. The performance of linear eddy viscosity models and an explicit algebraic stress model is assessed at the start of the vortex flow, and the results compared with experimental data. To assess the effect of transition location, computations that either fix transition or are fully turbulent are performed. To assess the effect of the turbulent stress ansiotropy, comparisons are made between predictions from the algebraic stress model and the linear eddy viscosity models. Both transition location and turbulent stress anisotropy significantly affect the 3D flow field. The most significant effect is found to be the modeling of transition location. At a Mach number of 0.90, the computed solution changes character from steady to unsteady depending on transition onset. Accounting for the anisotropies in the turbulent stresses also considerably impacts the flow, most notably in the outboard region of flow separation.
