This book was released on 2017-12-25 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on the Mathematical Theory of Perfectly Elastic Solids: With a Short Account of Viscous Fluids IN the present Volume I have attempted to present to the English student a continuous and fairly complete analysis of the Mathematical Theory of Elasticity, as it stands at present, together with a brief account of the physical basis on which the theory rests, and of the considerations which limit its practical application to natural materials. It would, of course, have been impossible to exhaust so wide a subject within the limits of an elementary text-book, and my endeavour has rather been, after giving a very full and clear account of the properties of Strain and Stress, considered separ ately and in their relations to one another, to indicate to the student as many as possible of the various modes of further advance, in order that he may be able to read without difficulty any of the more specialised memoirs, both theoretical and practical. Book The Viscosity Coefficient of Air

Download or read book The Viscosity Coefficient of Air written by Frederick G. Reynolds and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Viscosity Coefficient of Air: With an Inquiry Into the Effect of the Röntgen Ray Thereon One of the chief features of the gaseous form of matter is the distinguishing simplicity of its laws. The molecules of the medium in this state seem to act in a less complicated manner than when In a liquid or solid state. The investigation of any property of matter in the form of a gas might therefore be mone simple than a similar investigation on any other form of matter, and the results attending such an effort might serve to throw some light on these other and more complicated forms. The particular phenomenon in question has claimed the attention of investigators for many years and while the general truths may be said to be settled, there have always existed many differences of detail in which one may find a justification for further effort in the same field. Book Elementary Mechanics of Solids Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elementary Mechanics of Solids Classic Reprint written by W. T. An; Emtage and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Mechanics of Solids This book has been written after many years' experience in teaching Theoretical Mechanics to students of a great variety of ages and attainments. I attach great importance to the value of carefully selected and carefully explained examples, and throughout the book numerous examples will be found worked out and accompanied by notes on the processes employed in their solution. In addition to these, there are nearly five hundred questions for exercise. Many of these questions are taken from examination papers, the source being always clearly stated. In the teaching of any branch of science the value of experimental illustrations has now come to be fully recognized; and I have described upwards of forty experiments which may all be performed by teacher or student with the help of very inexpensive apparatus. At the same time more elaborate apparatus may be used, when it is available, to illustrate much of the subject matter. The book will be found to contain all the subjects in the syllabus of the Elementary Stage of Theoretical Mechanics of Solids of the Board of Education, South Kensington; while, to increase its usefulness and to adapt it to the requirements of students for other examinations, the theoretical proofs of many propositions have been added. It may be read without any mathematical attainments beyond an ability to solve easy algebraical equations, except that in a few instances easy quadratics and the properties of similar triangles have been employed. My thanks are due to Prof. E. A. Gregory and Mr. A. T. Simmons, B.Sc., who have helped me by many valuable suggestions during the preparation of the book. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Viscous Water and Algin Gel as Fire Control Materials Have you ever tried to use paint that had too much thinner? If you have, you know that it drips and runs. But paint that is just right stays in place. This property of a liquid that causes it to adhere to a solid surface-viscosity-is also valuable for materials used in coating the surface of fuels to retard and suppress wildfires.
