Book Vaporization Response of Evaporating Drops with Finite Thermal Conductivity

Download or read book Vaporization Response of Evaporating Drops with Finite Thermal Conductivity written by V. D. Agosta and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical computing procedure was developed for calculating vaporization histories of evaporating drops in a combustor in which travelling transverse oscillations occurred. The liquid drop was assumed to have a finite thermal conductivity. The system of equations was solved by using a finite difference method programmed for solution on a high speed digital computer. Oscillations in the ratio of vaporization of an array of repetitivity injected drops in the combustor were obtained from summation of individual drop histories. A nonlinear in-phase frequency response factor for the entire vaporization process to oscillations in pressure was evaluated. A nonlinear out-of-phase response factor, in-phase and out-of-phase harmonic response factors, and a Princeton type 'n' and 'tau' were determined. The resulting data was correlated and is presented in graphical format. Qualitative agreement with the open literature is obtained in the behavior of the in-phase response factor. Quantitatively the results of the present finite conductivity spray analysis do not correlate with the results of a single drop model.

Book Principles of Fire Behavior and Combustion

Download or read book Principles of Fire Behavior and Combustion written by Richard Gann and published by Jones & Bartlett Publishers. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the National Fire Academy’s Fire Behavior and Combustion model curriculum. Without a comprehensive grasp of how fires start and spread, informed decisions on how to best control and extinguish fires can not be made. Principles of Fire Behavior and Combustion, Fourth Edition will provide readers with a thorough understanding of the chemical and physical properties of flammable materials and fire, the combustion process, and the latest in suppression and extinguishment. The Fourth Edition of this time-tested resource is the most current and accurate source of fire behavior information available to fire science students and on-the-job fire fighters today.

Book Transport Phenomena with Drops and Bubbles

Download or read book Transport Phenomena with Drops and Bubbles written by Satwindar S. Sadhal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid flows that transfer heat and mass often involve drops and bubbles, particularly if there are changes of phase in the fluid in the formation or condensation of steam, for example. Such flows pose problems for the chemical and mechanical engineer significantly different from those posed by single-phase flows. This book reviews the current state of the field and will serve as a reference for researchers, engineers, teachers, and students concerned with transport phenomena. It begins with a review of the basics of fluid flow and a discussion of the shapes and sizes of fluid particles and the factors that determine these. The discussion then turns to flows at low Reynolds numbers, including effects due to phase changes or to large radial inertia. Flows at intermediate and high Reynolds numbers are treated from a numerical perspective, with reference to experimental results. The next chapter considers the effects of solid walls on fluid particles, treating both the statics and dynamics of the particle-wall interaction and the effects of phase changes at a solid wall. This is followed by a discussion of the formation and breakup of drops and bubbles, both with and without phase changes. The last two chapters discuss compound drops and bubbles, primarily in three-phase systems, and special topics, such as transport in an electric field.

Book Industrial Sprays and Atomization

Download or read book Industrial Sprays and Atomization written by Ghasem G. Nasr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extensive critical compilation of the wide range of manufacturing processes that involve the application of spray technology, this book covers design of atomizers as well as the performance of plant and their corresponding spray systems. The needs of practising engineers from different disciplines: project managers, and works, maintenance and design engineers are catered for. Of interest to researchers in the field of liquid sprays, the book includes outlines of the contemporary and possible future research and challenges in the different fields of application and deals with: • sprays and their production; • sprays in industrial production processes; • processes involving vaporisation and cooling or cleaning of gases; • spray-surface impact processes; • fuel sprays for fixed plant; • spraying of hot surfaces for steel making and other metals; • spraying of molten metals. Guidance is given for the analysis and interpretation of experimental data obtained using different measurement techniques.
