Book Petroleum Geology of the Upper Jurassic Lower Cretaceous of East and North East Greenland

Download or read book Petroleum Geology of the Upper Jurassic Lower Cretaceous of East and North East Greenland written by Jon R. Ineson and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exposed Jurassic succession in East and North-East Greenland has long been presented as an analogue for equivalent deeply buried strata on the Norwegian conjugate shelf and offshore North East Greenland. In particular, the Upper Jurassic marine mudstone succession is often ascribed source-rock potential as proven from coeval rocks on the Northwest European margin. Previous outcrop investigations have not convincingly confirmed this potential, however, and three boreholes were drilled between 2008 and 2010 to provide full coverage of the Upper Jurassic - Lower Cretaceous petroleum source-rock succession in eastern Greenland. The Blokely-1 borehole was drilled in 2008 in central Jameson Land to investigate the Middle Oxfordian - Lower Volgian Hareelv Formation, representing the lowermost part of the composite source-rock succession. The common aim of the collection of eight scientific papers in this bulletin, introduced by an account of the technical and logistic challenges of the drilling operation, is to document the significance of the Hareelv Formation in a petroleum geological context. Papers on the biostratigraphy, sedimentology, provenance and diagnesis establish the framework and geological history of the succession while companion papers on the source-rock potential, burial and exhumation history and igneous intrusive activity in the region contribute to an improved understanding of the petroleum geology of the Jameson Land Basin.

Book The Jurassic of North east Greenland

Download or read book The Jurassic of North east Greenland written by Lars Stemmerik and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jurassic sedimentary succession in East and North-East Greenland reflects deposition during the early stages of rifting between Greenland and Norway. Jurassic sediments are exposed over a distance of more than 600 km, from Jameson Land in the south to Store Koldewey in the north, and form one of the best-known exposed ancient rift successions. This collection of papers deals with stratigraphic and depositional aspects of the Middle-Upper Jurassic sediments from isolated and less well-known localities outside the main outcrop areas.

This book was released on 2016-12-22 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On Jurassic and Cretaceous Fossils From North-East Greenland As already mentioned above, the Danmark Expedition found Jurassic deposits on Hochstetter's Foreland, deposits that had hitherto been erroneously referred to the Tertiary system. The principal col lections of mesozoic, marine fossils were made, however, on Store Koldewey Island; not only were fossiliferous Jurassic deposits of somewhat different age found there, but also at one point interesting Neocomian deposits with a fauna-which is very nearly related to that 011 the east side of Kuhn Island. Mesozoic fossils were also found further north, in the district round Danmarks Havn, but only in boulders. These boulders are referable partly to the youngest Jurassic, partly to the oldest Cretaceous. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Geologic Time Scale 2012

Download or read book The Geologic Time Scale 2012 written by F M Gradstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 1176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Geologic Time Scale 2012, winner of a 2012 PROSE Award Honorable Mention for Best Multi-volume Reference in Science from the Association of American Publishers, is the framework for deciphering the history of our planet Earth. The authors have been at the forefront of chronostratigraphic research and initiatives to create an international geologic time scale for many years, and the charts in this book present the most up-to-date, international standard, as ratified by the International Commission on Stratigraphy and the International Union of Geological Sciences. This 2012 geologic time scale is an enhanced, improved and expanded version of the GTS2004, including chapters on planetary scales, the Cryogenian-Ediacaran periods/systems, a prehistory scale of human development, a survey of sequence stratigraphy, and an extensive compilation of stable-isotope chemostratigraphy. This book is an essential reference for all geoscientists, including researchers, students, and petroleum and mining professionals. The presentation is non-technical and illustrated with numerous colour charts, maps and photographs. The book also includes a detachable wall chart of the complete time scale for use as a handy reference in the office, laboratory or field. The most detailed international geologic time scale available that contextualizes information in one single reference for quick desktop access Gives insights in the construction, strengths, and limitations of the geological time scale that greatly enhances its function and its utility Aids understanding by combining with the mathematical and statistical methods to scaled composites of global succession of events Meets the needs of a range of users at various points in the workflow (researchers extracting linear time from rock records, students recognizing the geologic stage by their content)
