Later, when Indira Gandhi became PM in 1966 and required the services of a physician, Dr Mathur took charge. Thus began an association that lasted for almost 20 years; in fact, Dr Mathur was one of the last persons whom Indira Gandhi met before she was assassinated by her guards on October 31, 1984.

Taneja observes the visitors, who come mainly from the Muslim and Dalit neighborhoods of Delhi, and uses their conversations and letters to the jinns as an archive of voices so often silenced.
