Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For every one of his smiles, she thought of his letter and blushed with shame of what she had done. Oh, that she might have just looked at it! After rejecting Mr Darcy's proposal at Hunsford, Elizabeth Bennet is surprised when he finds her walking the next day and hands her a letter. Without any expectation of pleasure-but with the strongest curiosity-she begins to open the letter, fully intending to read it. It really was an accident-at first. Her shaking hands broke the seal and somehow tore the pages in two. Oh, what pleasure she then felt in tearing the pages again and again! A glorious release of anger and indignation directed towards the man who had insulted her and courted her in the same breath. She did feel remorse, but what could she do? The letter was destroyed, and Elizabeth expected that she would never see Mr Darcy again. Home at Longbourn, she discovers that her youngest sisters are consumed by a scheme to go to Brighton-and Elizabeth finds herself drawn to the idea of a visit to the sea. But the surprises of Brighton are many, beginning with a chance meeting on the beach and ending in unexpected romance all around.

Book excerpt: This book is about the journey of an unopened letter treasured in a white envelope, which has now turned pale rusty-brown, the color of aging time. It belongs to an author who has resigned to the lap of nature. But when a stranger knocks on his door to interview him, the author shares his life's story by recounting his memories. The letter that was given to him by his beloved upon their separation remained unopened for two decades. It was a companion he could never leave behind yet at the same time never face.Sagar and Deeksha have a bumpy start. But soon the ride turns smooth as the time passes by. Right from their first meeting to the magic of their blossoming love until their separation, the book introduces us to a roller-coaster journey of pure and undiluted love filled with romance, despair and tragedy. Why did the author never open the letter? What choice tore the two loving souls apart? What impact does the stranger have on the author's halted life? What does it take to lose in love and then live with that loss? The story is a work of poetic prose. It delineates all the facets of love: time, distance, promise, patience and hope. A journey light as a breeze and promising a tear on the smiling lips.

Book Romantic Capabilities

Download or read book Romantic Capabilities written by Mike Goode and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-02 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Romantic Capabilities discusses the relationship between popular new media uses of literary texts. Devising and modelling an original critical methodology that bridges historicist literary criticism and reception studies with media studies and formalism, this volume contends that how a literary text behaves when it encounters new media reveals medial capabilities of the text that can transform how we understand its significance for the original historical context for which it was created. Following an introductory theoretical chapter that explains the book's unconventional approach to the archive, Romantic Capabilities analyzes significant popular "media behaviors" exhibited by three major Romantic British literary corpuses: the viral circulation of William Blake's pictures and proverbs across contemporary media, the gravitation of Victorian panorama painters and 3D photographers to Walter Scott's historical fictions, and the ongoing popular practice of writing fanfiction set in the worlds of Jane Austen's novels and their imaginary country estates. The result is a book that reveals Blake to be an important early theorist of viral media and the law, Scott's novels to be studies in vision that helped give rise to modern immersive media, and Austenian realism to be a mode of ecological design whose project fanfiction grasps and extends. It offers insight into the politics of virality, the dependence of immersion on a sense of frame, and the extent to which eighteenth-century landscape gardening anticipated Deleuzian ideas of the "virtual" by granting existence to reality's as-yet-unrealized capabilities.

Book Suffering and the Remedy of Art

Download or read book Suffering and the Remedy of Art written by Harold Schweizer and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1997-03-20 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book suggests that a listening to suffering may profit from a literary hearing, and vice-versa. It is not only that literature tells of suffering but that suffering may tell us something about the nature of literature. The author examines works and texts that range from medicine to literature, philosophy to photography, prose to poetry, and from Antigone to W.H. Auden. The book presents individual instances, real and literary, of physical and mental wounds and diseases, of pain and death, endured by a little girl in a burn ward, a boy wounded in the war in Bosnia, a nameless Vietnamese woman, Job, Antigone, as well as a number of mostly lyrical elegists: a survivor of the holocaust, a wife bereft of her husband, a daughter bereft of her father. The autonomy of each chapter suggests that experiences of suffering are always incomparable. One must in every instance begin again and enter the scene of suffering on its own terms: the radically individual nature of suffering is prior or past to any theory or set of generalizations.
