Book Continental Scientific Drilling Project of the Cretaceous Songliao Basin SK 1 in China

Download or read book Continental Scientific Drilling Project of the Cretaceous Songliao Basin SK 1 in China written by Chengshan Wang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 719 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continental Scientific Drilling Project of the Cretaceous Songliao Basin (SK-1) in China is the first reference to provide the results of the first part of scientific drilling project at the Songliao Basin in the Daqing oil field, the largest known oil field in China. The project has two major objectives: one is to correlate the oceanic and continental records and determine the principal drivers of climate change in order to assist in future climate change predictions and its influence on the earth's environment. The second is to further test the theory of terrestrial genesis of hydrocarbons, and to explore the formation of intra-continental sedimentary basins, as many are major hydrocarbon provinces. In addition, this project provides the scientific basis for exploration of the Daqing Oilfields, which have a yearly production of forty million tons of oil. The world is entering a new exciting era to explore in which scientific drilling will provide a quantum leap in our understanding of its deep earth and history. Continental Scientific Drilling Project of the Cretaceous Songliao Basin (SK-1) in China will play an important role in promoting scientific drilling and earth system science research. - Summarizes the geological background, seismic profile, and tectonic evolution of the Songliao Basin - Provides detailed information on drilling technology of SK-1, which successfully obtained ~2500m core with a recovery rate of ~95% - Includes detailed core information: stratigraphic charts, core photographs, and core photograph identification tables

Book The China Continental Scientific Drilling Project

Download or read book The China Continental Scientific Drilling Project written by Da Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-06 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively introduces the drilling theory and practice behind CCSD-1 well drilling, the first stage of a key national scientific engineering project of China. In addition to access to variety of data and information accumulated decade during the project’s decade-long operation, readers also gain insight into state-of-the-art techniques and most recent achievements in China’s scientific drilling industry. Specifically, this work introduces the drilling engineering design, well site construction, and equipment and construction situation. It also provides a minute description on the new techniques that were developed for tackling the technical difficulties, expounds in detail the core drilling techniques for hard rock deep well, and treats diamond core drill bits, reaming drilling techniques in hard crystalline rocks, well-deviation control techniques for strong dipping strata, and much more. In summary, this book offers a valuable resource for engineers and technicians who engage in scientific drilling and a variety of resource drilling engineering; teachers and students who are interested in this field will also gain plentiful information. Prof. Da Wang, the former deputy director of China Geological Survey, was the director of the Engineering Centre, chief engineer and drill-site general director of China Continental Scientific Drilling Project.

Book Priorities for a National Program of Continental Drilling for Scientific Purposes

Download or read book Priorities for a National Program of Continental Drilling for Scientific Purposes written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two reports, Continental Drilling and Continental Scientific Drilling Program, form a basis for this report and provide comprehensive discussions of the subject of continental drilling for scientific purposes in a number of research areas. The purpose of this report is to present a specific recommendation of the Continental Scientific Drilling Committee on where the first deep hole dedicated to scientific exploration of the continental crust in the United States should be located. The most accessible and feasible hypothesis to test is the one of thin-skinned tectonics; the southern Appalachians, where the thrusting of crystalline rocks of the Blue Ridge and Piedmont Provinces over early Paleozoic sedimentary rocks is postulated, represents the best location for this drilling project. This hypothesis is of fundamental importance to the understanding of the evolution of continents. 4 refs.

Book Observation of the Continental Crust through Drilling I

Download or read book Observation of the Continental Crust through Drilling I written by C.Barry Raleigh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drilling deep into the earth holds a fascination for earth scientists derived in part from the fact that the drill hole is the ultimate test of a hypothesis. When surface exploration methods have been fully uti lized and all the geological inferences drawn about the structure be neath the surface, we must finally drill to sample directly the third dimension of the crust of the earth. The drill is thus the tool of choice of the energy and minerals re sources industry. Because of high cost, drilling has been only sparing ly used for solving fundamental problems in the earth sciences. But now, having used the quite sophisticated methodology of exploration geophysics, the exciting structural detail emerging from seismic re flection profiling in particular has led several nations to begin a major program of scientific drilling to solve some of the major prGb lems in the earth sciences. Hhat is described in this volume are the blueprints for national re search programs in France, the Federal Republic of Germany, Japan and the United States. The Soviet Union has already embarked on a major drilling effort, the results of which are soon to be published. Results, of course, are still few, and this first volume is more concerned with the problems to be solved.
