Download or read book Botticelli Past and Present written by Ana Debenedetti and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent exhibitions dedicated to Botticelli around the world show, more than ever, the significant and continued debate about the artist. Botticelli Past and Present engages with this debate. The book comprises four thematic parts, spanning four centuries of Botticelli’s artistic fame and reception from the fifteenth century. Each part comprises a number of essays and includes a short introduction which positions them within the wider scholarly literature on Botticelli. The parts are organised chronologically beginning with discussion of the artist and his working practice in his own time, moving onto the progressive rediscovery of his work from the late eighteenth to the turn of the twentieth century, through to his enduring impact on contemporary art and design. Expertly written by researchers and eminent art historians and richly illustrated throughout, the broad range of essays in this book make a valuable contribution to Botticelli studies.

Download or read book The Villa Laurentina of Pliny the Younger in an Eighteenth century Vision written by Jerzy Miziołek and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book deals with a paper reconstruction of Pliny the Younger' s (c. AD 61-112) villa near Ostia, some twenty kilometres from Rome. This unique work was created in Rome in the years 1777-78 by a young Pole, Count Stanisław Potocki (1755-1821) in cooperation with Giuseppe Manocchi and other outstanding artists of the time. The work, originally in the Potocki collection in Wilanów, is today housed in the iconographic collection of the National Library, Warsaw. It contains over thirty large-format drawings (57.789.5 cm) in colour. Just before the close of the 18th century, probably during his last sojourn in Italy (1795-97), Count Potocki wrote a 24-page-long commentary to his work, entitled Notes et Idées sur la Villa de Pline. This hitherto unpublished manuscript commentary and reconstruction drawings of the villa are now published together with a virtual visualisation of the villa produced in 3D Studio Max 2014."--

Book excerpt: From 21 July to 4 August 1944, New Zealand soldiers were at the front line as Allied forces pushed forward across the heartland of Tuscany to wrest Florence from German hands. First published in Italian in 2009, "To the Gateways of Florence" preserves the core of the Italian book, with the addition of new material and photographs. It balances expert accounts by military historians -- on topics from tank warfare in Chianti to the contribution of Maori soldiers -- with personal testimonies of New Zealand soldiers and Italian civilians. A rich selection of photographs and memorabilia from archives in New Zealand and Italy illustrates the work.
