Book excerpt: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series Tres Navarre has just hours of apprenticeship time to serve before he can go for his P.I. license. Staking out a musician suspected of stealing a demo tape should be a piece of pan dulce. But his attention wanders just long enough for fiddle player Julie Kearnes to be gunned down before his eyes. He should just back away and let the cops investigate, but backing away has never been Tres's strong point. The missing demo and Julie's murder are just two of the problems besetting Miranda Daniels, a pint-sized singer with Texas-sized talent. She's the prize in a tug-of-war between two music hotshots who want to manage her career. One has a habit of making bad things happen to people he doesn't like. The other has just vanished without a trace. As Tres looks into the dirty dealings surrounding Miranda, it becomes clear he's stepped into a rattlesnakes' nest of greed, double cross, and murder—and he may be the next to be snakebit. Don’t miss any of these hotter-than-Texas-chili Tres Navarre novels: BIG RED TEQUILA • THE WIDOWER’S TWO-STEP • THE LAST KING OF TEXAS • THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO AUSTIN • SOUTHTOWN • MISSION ROAD • REBEL ISLAND

Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of The Rosie Project comes a story of taking chances and learning to love again as two people, one mourning her husband and the other recovering from divorce, cross paths on the centuries-old Camino pilgrimage from France to Spain. “The Chemin will change you. It changes everyone…” The Chemin, also known as the Camino de Santiago, is a centuries-old pilgrim route that ends in Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain. Every year, thousands of walkers—some devout, many not—follow the route that wends through quaint small villages and along busy highways alike, a journey unlike any other. Zoe, an artist from California who’s still reeling from her husband’s sudden death, has impulsively decided to walk the Camino, hoping to find solace and direction. Martin, an engineer from England, is road-testing a cart of his own design…and recovering from a messy divorce. They begin in the same French town, each uncertain of what the future holds. Zoe has anticipated the physical difficulties of her trek, but she is less prepared for other challenges, as strangers and circumstances force her to confront not just recent loss, but long-held beliefs. For Martin, the pilgrimage is a test of his skills and endurance but also, as he and Zoe grow closer, of his willingness to trust others—and himself—again. Smart and funny, insightful and romantic, Two Steps Forward reveals that the most important journeys we make aren’t measured in miles, but in the strength, wisdom, and love found along the way. Fans of The Rosie Project will recognize Graeme Simsion’s uniquely quirky and charming writing style.

Book excerpt: After six years and too much self-recrimination, rancher Mitch Landry is ready to admit he was wrong. He'd loved Olivia Montgomery but commitment wasn't high on his list back then. Now he's set to do whatever it takes to convince her to give him another try. Through hard work and determination, Olivia survived the break-up and rebuilt her life around her business and the son she loves more than life itself. She's not proud of the mistakes she's made--particularly the secrets she's kept--but when life hands you manure, you use it to make something better of yourself...lest you get stuck in it. At a hot, muggy Dallas wedding, they reconnect. Olivia's first instinct is to play it cool, but after one devastating kiss things flare real out of control, real fast. Maybe a quick roll in the hay will get him out of her system once and for all. Funny thing about hay, though. Once it's tangled in your hair, getting it out risks revealing things that were never meant to see the light of day.

My perspective changedconcerning American exceptionalism and, in many ways, made me come to terms that the US neverwas great. About this time, a client of mine asked if he could send me a short video regarding 911. I receivedand watched the presentation and began to question what we had been told regarding September 11, 2001,terrorist attacks. After thoroughly studying the incident, I concluded that it was a false-flag attack mostlikely orchestrated by the USI. To say that I went down the rabbit hole would be an understatement. I5Wasted space, please consolidate begin to question everything. Being an introvert allowed me to research and learn the United States' accurate history, which I determined was not what I was taught in schools. This brought on the sadreality that what I thought for many years had not been correct, and in many ways, I felt cheated by asystem that gave me a sense of superiority over the less educated, common folk. I realized that I did notknow shit, was arrogant and looked down upon those who knew less when in reality, they werebetter off not learning the fraudulent information that I had acquired. At this time, it was as if I called atime out during a basketball game. I was the coach of my life, and I determined that I needed to learn thefundamentals of true history and hard money Austrian economics from the beginning. This led me to conclude that I was doing a disservice to my homeland and myself by refusing to be critical wherecriticism is proper. What I determined is outlined in this book.
