Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Less than ten years before his death in 1933, B.H. Roberts, one of the most influential Mormon writers of the twentieth century, began work on "the most important book that I have yet contributed to the LDS Church." A prolific and respected Mormon apologist, Roberts wanted to consolidate his theological thought into a unified whole and to reconcile science with scripture. His final manuscript, "The Truth, the Way, the Life," synthesized doctrine into three sections: the truth about the world and revelation, the way of salvation, and Jesus' life in shaping Christian character. He submitted his completed work to the LDS First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, which, after a series of heated meetings, rejected it. Roberts's views on evolution, the age of the earth, the pre-earth existence, and the eternal progression of God were deemed too controversial, so his "masterwork" went unpublished until 1994.--Signature Books website.

Book The Way the Truth and the Life The Way

Download or read book The Way the Truth and the Life The Way written by Rev. Charles Thomas Comella and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The earliest Christian church was called The Way. It was called this because Jesus Christ's advent, life, death, and resurrection did not focus upon theology as such or doctrines as such or upon achieving warm, fuzzy feelings as such. Jesus's teachings and life were all focused upon a way of life. A way of life focused upon a relationship with God, and a way of life focused upon our relationships with our fellow men and women. Jesus shined a spotlight on how we are to live yearly, weekly, daily, act by act, step by step, decision by decision under the watchful eyes of a gracious, loving God who knows us and calls us by name. Even Jesus's death and resurrection were pointers revealing the way, the way of the journey we will all take one day. This small book is called The Way because it focuses, as Jesus did, upon the how-tos needed to cope with an increasingly irreligious, if not anti-Christian culture. How do I deal with fear? How do I deal with my guilt? How do I? From my observation and experience, these are the questions in the mind of the man or woman in the pew. There are ways. There is a way. They were pioneered for us by Jesus. He and his way is The Way.

Book B H Roberts Moral Geography and the Making of a Modern Racist

Download or read book B H Roberts Moral Geography and the Making of a Modern Racist written by Clyde R. Forsberg Jr. and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-22 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A transdisciplinary Mormon history, this book is a work of American religious history, theology, science history, and cultural and historical geography. It deconstructs the “race” creationism, White supremacy, and Christian imperialism of leading interwar Mormon theologian B.H. Roberts. Roberts hoped to introduce the front-rank post-Darwinian, scientific, and philosophical postulates of his time—polygeny, preadamitism, electromagnetism, idealism, the multiverse, infinity, and interstellar travel—to an increasingly fundamentalist Mormon establishment. Church authorities, however, including eventual “prophet” Joseph Fielding Smith Jr., proscribed and rejected Roberts’ modernist manuscript, The Truth, The, Way, The Life: An Elementary Treatise on Theology, circa 1930. Paradoxically, however, Roberts’ thinking appeared uncited in Smith’s 1954 theology, Man, His Origin and Destiny. Here, Smith accelerated Roberts’ racism toward African Americans, while reviling science, philosophy, and free thought. This book contextualizes all such fundamentalist Mormon thinking within today’s struggle for social and environmental justice, and especially the Black Lives Matter movement.

Book excerpt: "Way Truth: Life," that expands upon the theology presented in the author's first-published book, "Way Truth: Life - Revelation of the Creator LORD Jesus Christ," is a book that is much needed. For, most who claim to be Christian do not comprehend the fullness of Who the Creator LORD Jesus Christ is. And, virtually none of these understands God's overall Plan of Redemption of the Ages that is necessary to correctly interpret Bible prophecy. These are so ignorant of what God is doing and about to do that they do not even know what questions to ask. Most proclaimed Christians have no concept of what the Bible reveals concerning the timing of Christ's return. They certainly cannot use simple terms to clearly explain how God's predestination and mankind's free will coexist. They do not know how God will ultimately judge all sinners in a fair manner regardless of when they live or what spiritual enlightenment they are exposed to. Sadly, most do not even know what God really requires for a person to be born again and eternally saved, much less what spiritual stages everyone who ever lives potentially goes through from the moment that one comes into existence until he physically dies. They do not know God's plan for His chosen nation of Israel during the church age, during the coming 7-year Tribulation and during the Millennial Kingdom. And, they have no idea what the Bible clearly reveals about the destiny of everyone who dies before the age of moral accountability. Clear answers to the above are provided within this fully scripture-referenced book on theology entitled "Way Truth: Life." Additionally, the author's most-literal approach to interpreting God's Word also makes it very easy to decipher Bible prophecy.

Book The Anatomy of Book of Mormon Theology Volume Two

Download or read book The Anatomy of Book of Mormon Theology Volume Two written by Joseph M. Spencer and published by Greg Kofford Books. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few scholars of the Book of Mormon have read this volume of scripture as closely and rigorously as Joseph M. Spencer. And of those, none have devoted as much time and effort as he to a theological reading of that sacred text—that is, as Spencer writes, “how it might shape responsible thinking about questions pertaining to the life of religious commitment” (p. 1:173.) The Anatomy of Book of Mormon Theology divides into two volumes exploring and thinking about these pertinent questions. Whereas the first volume principally contains essays that deal with relatively traditional theological questions and concerns, the essays in this volume ask about what new worlds might be discovered in doing theological work on the Book of Mormon, focusing on what Spencer calls “microscopic” and “macroscopic” theological readings of the text. Essays in the first set examine no more than a verse of the Book of Mormon—more often just a single phrase or two—to see what theological implications lie within the details of the text. The second set of essays ask questions about the shape and intentions of the whole of the Book of Mormon, as this can be discerned through the ways it deploys biblical texts—and especially the writings of Isaiah. A third set of essays follows the two on microscopic and macroscopic styles of theology and are invitations to blur the boundaries that separate different styles of Book of Mormon scholarship. These final essays call on Book of Mormon scholars to move closer to theology and calls on theologians to move closer to the Book of Mormon.

Book Parallels and Convergences

Download or read book Parallels and Convergences written by A. Scott Howe and published by Greg Kofford Books. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The earth will eventually be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory. But how will our current world ever become the heaven of our dreams? The Lord is already on it; and, as the essays in this book provocatively propose, He’s following good engineering principles. Joseph Fielding Smith said, regarding inventions in these latter days, “The inspiration of the Lord has gone out and takes hold of the minds of men, though they know it not, and they are directed by the Lord. In this manner he brings them into his service.” If there is “no such thing as immaterial matter,” and “all spirit is matter,” then what are the implications for such standard theological principles as creation, human progression, free will, transfiguration, resurrection, and immortality? In eleven stimulating essays, Mormon engineers probe gospel possibilities and future vistas dealing with human nature, divine progression, and the earth’s future. Richard Bushman poses a vision-expanding proposal: “The end point of engineering knowledge may be divine knowledge. Mormon theology permits us to think of God and humans as collaborators in bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. Engineers may be preparing the way for humans to act more like gods in managing the world.”

Book Saints The Story of the Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter Days Volume 3

Download or read book Saints The Story of the Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter Days Volume 3 written by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This book was released on 2022-04-22 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After decades of opposition, the Latter-day Saints have dedicated the Salt Lake Temple, a mighty symbol of their industry and faith. Now, with a new century on the horizon, the Saints are optimistic about the future and ready to spread the Savior’s message of peace across the globe. But the world is rapidly changing. Advances in transportation and communication allow people and information to cross vast distances in record time. And young people are venturing far from home as never before, seeking educational and professional opportunities their parents and grandparents could hardly imagine. As the Church begins to take root in Europe, South America, and Asia, the Saints rejoice in the rise of the global Church. Yet many are wary of the challenges the changing world poses to the cause of Zion. While the promise of the new century is bright, it comes with dire economic hardships, brutal global wars, and other unprecedented trials. Boldly, Nobly, and Independent is the third book in Saints, a new, four-volume narrative history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fast-paced, meticulously researched, and written under the direction of the First Presidency, Saints recounts true stories of Latter-day Saints across the globe and answers the Lord’s call to write a history “for the good of the Church, and for the rising generations” (Doctrine and Covenants 69:8).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merrill, who urged a unique vision of reality that shaped a Mormon eschatology.
