Book The Price of Fear

Download or read book The Price of Fear written by Ibrahim Warde and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Ibrahim Warde exposes the Bush administration's much ballyhooed, but often duplicitous 'war on terrorist finances' which has nabbed few bad guys, ruined many innocents, frozen little hot money and vastly complicated worldwide banking for the greater glory of a burgeoning American bureaucracy."--Jonathan Randal, author of Osama: The Making of a Terrorist "Ibrahim Warde takes a long overdue skeptical look at the widely held view that money is the 'oxygen' of terrorism. That conclusion has resulted in a financial war on terror launched by the US government that in many cases has produced meager or even counterproductive results. Warde writes with great clarity, and his book is very well reported. It is a welcome addition to a field that has been largely the preserve of alarmists with little interest in the kinds of reporting done by Warde."--Peter Bergen, author of The Osama bin Laden I Know "A pleasure to read ... remarkably informative about a subject that the press seems to have mangled. This ought to have a big impact."--Chalmers Johnson, author Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire "Is it any wonder that with thinking like this, American policy went adrift in the war on terror, not able to find a solid base on which to move forward?"--Patrick Lloyd Hatcher, author of North Atlantic Civilization at War "A witty, irreverent analysis of the financial 'war on terror' ... A must read for anyone interested in the Middle East and the global economy."--Clement M. Henry, co-author of Globalization and the Politics of Development in the Middle East

Book Washington s Dark Secret

Download or read book Washington s Dark Secret written by John Maszka and published by Potomac Books. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a scholar of terrorism, John Maszka has examined how politics, the media, and the War on Terror play off one another. His most startling claim is that the War on Terror is a war for natural resources—and that terrorism has little to do with it. Once the military became mechanized, oil quickly became the most sought-after commodity on the planet, and the race for energy was eventually framed as a matter of national security. Ironically, Maszka argues, the true threats to national security are the massive oil conglomerates themselves. Maszka delves into the repercussions of a government that capitalizes on an us versus them mentality, such as the demonizing of an entire religion, sensationalizing “radical” violent attacks, and loosely applying the word “terrorism.” Because the United States’ current approach to terrorism has led to the politicization and abuse of the term, Maszka suggests a need for a standardized definition of terrorism. Currently, too many acts of violence can be labeled terrorism, resulting in state and nonstate actors labeling their enemies as “terrorists,” yet claiming their own acts of violence as legitimate and retributive. Maszka argues that much of the violence labeled as terrorism today is not terrorism at all. In an ambitious attempt to connect seemingly unrelated events in politics and the media, Maszka offers an unflinching portrayal of the hypocrisy underlying our foreign policy.

Book The Worldwide Jihad The Truth About Islamic Terrorism

Download or read book The Worldwide Jihad The Truth About Islamic Terrorism written by Robert Spencer and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2013-02-23 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection of Robert Spencer’s writings, he discusses the real dangers of Islamic jihad and the spread of sharia laws across the world. Book Excerpt “You keep abusing Islam’s almighty Prophet with disgusting and disgraceful cartoons using excuses of freedom of speech. Be Allah’s curse upon you!” That was the message that hackers left on the website of France’s satirical weekly, Charlie Hebdo, after it announced plans to feature the Islamic prophet Muhammad as “editor-in-chief” of an upcoming issue. When the issue appeared last week, the publication’s offices were firebombed and destroyed. Charlie Hebdo’s editor, Stephane “Charb” Charbonnier, was not cowed. “We no longer have a newspaper,” he said. “All our equipment has been destroyed or has melted. We cannot, today, put together a paper. But we will do everything possible to do one next week. Whatever happens, we’ll do it. There is no question of giving in.” Already there are calls for free people to surrender. Calls for self-censorship and greater “sensitivity” toward Muslims have already begun. Bruce Crumley wrote in Time magazine in the wake of the bombing that “it’s obvious free societies cannot simply give in to hysterical demands made by members of any beyond-the-pale group,” and that “intimidation and violence must be condemned and combated for whatever reason they’re committed,” but that “it’s just as evident members of those same free societies have to exercise a minimum of intelligence, calculation, civility and decency in practicing their rights and liberties—and that isn’t happening when a newspaper decides to mock an entire faith on the logic that it can claim to make a politically noble statement by gratuitously pissing people off.” Certainly a decent person doesn’t go around gratuitously angering people. But when it comes to censorship or even legislation, who is to decide what angers people gratuitously? The people in power, of course. Time is essentially calling for restrictions on the freedom of speech and the creation of a special, privileged class that is beyond criticism. That is the death of free society and the road to tyranny, for the class that is beyond criticism will have a free hand to do whatever it wants, and what will anyone be able to say?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deconstructing the findings of the 9/11 Commission and the Joint Congressional Inquiry, he exposes disturbing liaisons between American, British, and European intelligence services and al-Qaeda operatives in the Balkans, Caucasus, North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Asia-Pacific - liaisons linked not only to 9/11, but also to prior terrorist attacks, including the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the 1998 US embassy bombings. Against this background, Ahmed accomplishes the most detailed and wide-ranging study to date of the powerful vested interests and intrigues responsible for the collapse of US national security in the years and months leading up to 9/11. Government documents, whistleblower testimony, and the findings of official inquiries are scrutinized to trace the innermost workings of the intelligence community, revealing precisely which government policies and operations facilitated the 9/11 intelligence failure, and pinpointing the specific agencies, individuals, and decisions that weakened the US air defense system. Finally, Ahmed unlocks the underlying geostrategy of the War on Terror - the culmination of a decades-long plan to secure and expand an increasingly unstable system.

Book excerpt: A One-of-a-Kind Expose of the September 11 Terrorist Plot That Changed Our Lives and Our World Irrevocably. When star Al-Jazeera TV reporter Yosri Fouda received an anonymous call summoning him to a secret interview in Pakistan with al-Qaeda, he knew he could be walking into a deadly trap, as Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl had done only months before. But he took the risk, and hit pay dirt. For 48 hours, Fouda listened as two of the world's most wanted men, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, head of al-Qaeda's military committee, and Ramzi Binalshibh, the link between Mohammed Atta and the senior al-Qaeda leadership, proudly claimed responsibility for the 9/11 attacks on New York and the Pentagon -- the first time al-Qaeda took direct responsibility. During the course of the in-depth interview, they detailed exactly how, over a two-year period, the plot was conceived, planned, and executed. Among their many revelations: The intended target of United Airlines Flight 93. The code names used by the hijackers. Documents and souvenirs from Atta's Hamburg apartment. Actual e-mail communications between Atta and Binalshibh. The role both chief conspirators played in the slaying of Daniel Pearl. Mohammed's connections to the first World Trade Center attack. How Mohammed and Binalshibh built al-Qaeda's Far East network. Based on that interview and hours of follow-up investigation, Masterminds of Terror also contains dramatic accounts of the seizure of both Binalshibh and Mohammed and analyzes al-Qaeda's attempts to justify its actions on what it calls "Holy Tuesday." With the recent headline-grabbing capture of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, both masterminds are now being held by the U.S. government in secret locations. Here is the closest we may get to the full inside story of the plot, together with the most up-to-date and comprehensive account yet of the philosophy and actions of al-Qaeda Book jacket.

Book Muslim Brotherhood and Terrorism

Download or read book Muslim Brotherhood and Terrorism written by The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research and published by Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since it was founded in 1928 by Hassan Al-Banna, the Muslim Brotherhood has sought to present itself as the moderate manifestation of political Islam movements and express its rejection of all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism. However, a closer look at the history of the group since its establishment and a meticulous review of its literature and political and religious ideology easily exposes the falsehood of these unrealistic claims, and reveals that this group is the source of terrorism and extremism both regionally and globally. The intellectual product of the Muslim Brotherhood has been the ideological foundation for all the emerging extremist and terrorist groups that act under the veil of religion. Groups such as Al-Qaeda, the Islamic Jihad group, Takfir wal-Hijra groups and most recently Da’esh (ISIS) have all developed from the Muslim Brotherhood and have assimilated the same ideology adopted by the group. There is no clearer proof of this than the fact that these extremist groups have been established or led by former members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Book Psychology of Terrorism

Download or read book Psychology of Terrorism written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In compiling this annotated bibliography on the psychology of terrorism, the author has defined terrorism as "acts of violence intentionally perpetrated on civilian noncombatants with the goal of furthering some ideological, religious or political objective." The principal focus is on nonstate actors. The task was to identify and analyze the scientific and professional social science literature pertaining to the psychological and/or behavioral dimensions of terrorist behavior (not on victimization or effects). The objectives were to explore what questions pertaining to terrorist groups and behavior had been asked by social science researchers; to identify the main findings from that research; and attempt to distill and summarize them within a framework of operationally relevant questions. To identify the relevant social science literature, the author began by searching a series of major academic databases using a systematic, iterative keyword strategy, mapping, where possible, onto existing subject headings. The focus was on locating professional social science literature published in major books or in peer-reviewed journals. Searches were conducted of the following databases October 2003: Sociofile/Sociological Abstracts, Criminal Justice Abstracts (CJ Abstracts), Criminal Justice Periodical Index (CJPI), National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts (NCJRS), PsycInfo, Medline, and Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS). Three types of annotations were provided for works in this bibliography: Author's Abstract -- this is the abstract of the work as provided (and often published) by the author; Editor's Annotation -- this is an annotation written by the editor of this bibliography; and Key Quote Summary -- this is an annotation composed of "key quotes" from the original work, edited to provide a cogent overview of its main points.

Book The Fight of Our Lives

Download or read book The Fight of Our Lives written by William J. Bennett and published by Thomas Nelson Inc. This book was released on 2011-03-29 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Want to know the dirty little secret in the war on terror? Some of us have already surrendered. Since the dreadful events of September 11, 2001, America has waged an international war on terrorism. But as the fight continues, are we prepared to win or are we practicing surrender? There have been dozens of terrorist attacks and attempted attacks since 9/11, including the recently foiled Times Square bomber. But while the Fort Dix terrorists were stopped in their tracks, an Islamist terrorist at Fort Hood unleashed hell on American servicemen and their families, shooting 45 and killing nearly a third that. Despite Maj. Nidal Hasan's shouting "Allahu Akbar" as he pulled the trigger, the official Pentagon report refused to mention Islam or use the word Muslim. And said the army chief of staff, "As horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that's worse." As William J. Bennett and Seth Leibsohn show, for lack of clarity, conviction, and determination, America is on the verge of declaring preemptive cultural surrender in the war on terror. The Fight of Our Lives will reinvigorate the discussion, reframe the debate, challenge the quitters, and embolden those who wish to win the war on terror.

Regularly priced at $9.99. Read on your PC, Mac, smart phone, tablet or Kindle device Glenn Beck begins his book with a stark declaration. The atrocities committed by some Muslims against non-believers of Islam are sanctioned by the Qur'an. Chapters (Sura) in the Qur'an tell followers of Islam it is their duty to declare war against non-believers, 'Fight against those who believe not in Allah, nor the last day.' Other chapters condone taking of prisoners in war, 'So, when you meet those who disbelieve smite at their necks [...] then bind a bond firmly.' (Meaning: Take them as captives) Further chapters tell that slaves, or captives, can be killed, sold, or ransomed back to their families.Beck continues by describing how there are Islamist fanatics all around us who are plotting to kill us in various ways. These fanatics operate under a religion which calls for the murder of anyone who doesn't submit to it. He also points out not every Muslim believes in the violent actions some followers do. Not every Muslim condones the enforcement of sharia law. He then goes on to describe the difference between Islam and Islamism, with Islam being the religion of one and a half billion people worldwide. Islamism is a supremacist regime which wants to enforce Islamic holy law, globally. Islamists, Beck explains, range from terrorists such as members of Al-Qaida and ISIS, but also include many Muslims who believe everyone should follow their religion and see those who do not as lower class. He also points out there are Muslims you work with, live next door to, and might have as part of your family who are targets of the Islamists as well. They believe in bringing Islam into the 21st century and making it compatible with other religions and by doing so are seen as not Muslim enough, making them enemies of the Islamists. Here Is A Preview Of What You'll Learn When You Download Your Copy Today * How Muslim Terrorists Have Censored Freedom Of Speech In America * What The Terrorist Groups Hope To Accomplish* Why The Terrorist Have A 7 Step Plan That Is Almost Complete Download Your Copy Today!
