Book The Reality of ESP

Download or read book The Reality of ESP written by Russell Targ and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2012-12-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On February 4, 1974, members of the Symbionese Liberation Army kidnapped nineteen-year-old newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst from her Berkeley, California apartment. Desperate to find her, the police called physicist Russell Targ and Pat Price, a psychic retired police commissioner. As Price turned the pages of the police mug book filled with hundreds of photos, suddenly he pointed to one of them and announced, “That’s the ringleader.” The man was Donald DeFreeze, who was indeed subsequently so identified. Price also described the type and location of the kidnap car, enabling the police to find it within minutes. That remarkable event is one reason Targ believes in ESP. Another occurred when his group made $120,000 by forecasting for nine weeks in a row the changes in the silver-commodity futures market As a scientist, Targ demands proof. His experience is based on two decades of investigations at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), which he cofounded with physicist Harold Puthoff in 1972. This twenty-million dollar program launched during the Cold War was supported by the CIA, NASA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and Army and Air Force Intelligence. The experiments they conducted routinely presented results could have happened by chance less than once in a million. Targ describes four types of experiments: Remote Viewing, in which a person describes places and events independent of space and time. For example, while in California Price drew to scale a Soviet weapons factory at Semipalitinsk with great accuracy later confirmed by Satellite photography. In another remote viewing, Targ accurately sketched an airport in San Andreas, Columbia himself. Distant Mental Influence, where the thoughts of the experimenter can positively or negatively affect the physiology (heart rate, skin resistance, etc.) of a distant person. Whole field isolation, where someone in a state of sensory isolation accurately describes the visual experiences of someone else in another place Precognition and retrocausality, showing that the future can affect the past. That is, the elephant you see on television in the morning can be the cause of your having dreamed about elephants the previous night. Final chapters present evidence for survival after death; explain how ESP works based on the Buddhist/Hindu view of our selves as nonlocal, eternal awareness; discuss the ethics of exercising psychic abilities, and show us how to explore ESP ourselves. “I am convinced,” Targ says, “that most people can learn to move from their ordinary mind to one not obstructed by conventional barriers of space and time. Who would not want to try that?”

Book excerpt: The definitive history of the military's decades-long investigation into mental powers and phenomena, from the author of Pulitzer Prize finalist The Pentagon's Brain and international bestseller Area 51. This is a book about a team of scientists and psychics with top secret clearances. For more than forty years, the U.S. government has researched extrasensory perception, using it in attempts to locate hostages, fugitives, secret bases, and downed fighter jets, to divine other nations' secrets, and even to predict future threats to national security. The intelligence agencies and military services involved include CIA, DIA, NSA, DEA, the Navy, Air Force, and Army-and even the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Now, for the first time, New York Times bestselling author Annie Jacobsen tells the story of these radical, controversial programs, using never before seen declassified documents as well as exclusive interviews with, and unprecedented access to, more than fifty of the individuals involved. Speaking on the record, many for the first time, are former CIA and Defense Department scientists, analysts, and program managers, as well as the government psychics themselves. Who did the U.S. government hire for these top secret programs, and how do they explain their military and intelligence work? How do scientists approach such enigmatic subject matter? What interested the government in these supposed powers and does the research continue? Phenomena is a riveting investigation into how far governments will go in the name of national security.

Book excerpt: If you think that extrasensory perception (ESP) is a power reserved for crystal-ball gazers, gypsies, believers in the occult, or something to watch on late-night television, this book will come as a big surprise. For ESP is a power latent in each one of us. Every single man, woman, and child has the ability to obtain information beyond the limitations of the time-space continuum. If we're not aware of this force, we're either ignoring it, suppressing it, or ascribing the phenomenon to other causes. In this book, Hans Holzer tells how to develop your ESP powers to time in on future events, send messages mind-to-mind across distances, even communicate with the next dimension.Mr. Holzer, through twenty years of intensive research in the field, offers hundreds of case histories dealing with psychic phenomena, reported by housewives, teachers, clergymen, laborers, old people, and children. Mr. Holzer explores astral projection, precognition, clairvoyance, trance, and evaluates such psychic tools as Ouija boards and tarot cards. Test sheets for professional and layman alike are included to determine one's ESP potential.ESP incidents can't simply be ignored, explains Mr. Holzer. They are numerous and well supported by evidence and reputable witnesses. Science can no longer treat parapsychology as a stepchild. ESP is not supernatural, but perfectly natural. Holzer endorses the increased development of this faculty through actual use and frequent testing. Here are just a few of the questions answered in THE TRUTH ABOUT ESP...Why did the Soviet Union employ full-time staffs in eight major universities to study psychic phenomena? Why is the ESP faculty compared to radio waves - with man as a receiving instrument? Is ESP related to karmic law?How is ESP being used in crime detection?Do plants really respond to tender loving care in some sort of extrasensory way?How should one deal with a premonition or a feeling of deja vu?Are tea leaves a hoax? What's the difference between clairvoyance and telepathy?

Book Entangled Minds

Download or read book Entangled Minds written by Dean Radin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-11-24 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is everything connected? Can we sense what's happening to loved ones thousands of miles away? Why are we sometimes certain of a caller's identity the instant the phone rings? Do intuitive hunches contain information about future events? Is it possible to perceive without the use of the ordinary senses? Many people believe that "psychic phenomena" are rare talents or divine gifts. Others don't believe they exist at all. But the latest scientific research shows that these phenomena are both real and widespread, and are an unavoidable consequence of the interconnected, entangled physical reality we live in. Albert Einstein called entanglement "spooky action at a distance"—the way two objects remain connected through time and space, without communicating in any conventional way, long after their initial interaction has taken place. Could a similar entanglement of minds explain our apparent psychic abilities? Dean Radin, senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, believes it might. In this illuminating book, Radin shows how we know that psychic phenomena such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis are real, based on scientific evidence from thousands of controlled lab tests. Radin surveys the origins of this research and explores, among many topics, the collective premonitions of 9/11. He reveals the physical reality behind our uncanny telepathic experiences and intuitive hunches, and he debunks the skeptical myths surrounding them. Entangled Minds sets the stage for a rational, scientific understanding of psychic experience.

Book Learning to Use Extrasensory Perception

Download or read book Learning to Use Extrasensory Perception written by Charles T. Tart and published by . This book was released on 2001-07-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All attempts to test people's ESP abilities overlook the fact that ESP is an undeveloped function, so we have to learn how to use it to begin with, not just see how much ESP we can show. Psychologist Charles T. Tart applied basic principles of learning to this task to show how training under conditions of immediate feedback could enhance ESP ability. This highly readable book, originally published by the University of Chicago Press, is the theory and a comprehensive study suggesting the principles can work.

Book ESP Cases in History

Download or read book ESP Cases in History written by Anita Croy and published by The Rosen Publishing Group, Inc. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extrasensory perception is the ability to hear others' thoughts, predict the future, and have visions. It sounds like a plot point in a superhero fantasy film, but this intriguing resource reveals there might be more truth to it than fiction. Ancient history, including the Greeks' oracles, the Ides of March, and Joan of Arc, provides compelling context. Reports of premonitions and out-of-body experiences have been ample enough for the government to get involved. These riveting accounts will make readers ponder the facts and question whether these phenomenon are coincidence or something else entirely.

Book The Impossible Way The Way The Truth The Life The Complete Trilogy

This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The words of this book are based upon Christ’s declaration: “I am the way, the truth, and the life . . .” St. John 14:6. This Holy Ghost inspired book will have every reader reexamining their faith in Christ, their walk in God, and even the way they currently display God’s Agape love in this world.I am come unto you as a friend, and truly I write unto you in much fear and trembling in the Holy Ghost. I come not in mine own name, but in the name of him who has sent me to testify unto the truth; and in him is no lie, even he which is Jesus Christ, our Lord. Now there is utterly a fault in the church from the least to the greatest: those who preach haven’t been sent to preach, and those who teach have not the anointing; and those who prophesy unto you have prophesied a lie because they have altogether deceived the people; and because of your carrying away you shall be one with their damnation. While reading this book, you shall learn the truth of your God and Creator, and of his Son, Jesus Christ. You shall learn how to identify the voice of God in your hearing, and how he speaks to you. You will learn how and why the Lord, God is so attached to man, and why he loves man so much. You will learn why you must be born again; moreover, you will discover what it is you need to do (what's your part in the kingdom of God) to truly be a light to others in this world. You will discover the reason why both faith and love are the keys to life in the kingdom of God, and the role they play in salvation. You will learn how to properly utilize and deploy your faith in a powerful new way. And even though you might know the basics of faith, today you will learn why its works have been a great mystery to the church. Today we will unlock this mystery together, and you will find that you now, not only can please God, but that you will also learn how easy it is for you to do his will and overcome all things by faith. You will also learn who your heavenly Father really is, as you come to realize that he has been waiting a long to meet you.Above all else, you will learn the reasons why the miracles, spoken of in St. Mark 16:16-18., are not occurring in the church today, and why the ministers and preachers of our day have not been bringing forth the word with signs following as had the apostles. You will be taught many things that you may have never been taught in the church, or have been taught improperly; such as the Constancy, the Fidelity, and the Faithfulness of God in the reality of himself. You will learn not only what these words mean, but you will learn how to apply them to your life as you grow in Christ. Little children, I am only asking of you is to listen to his voice today. This book is a book of instructions given in hopes of making "YOU ALL" true Disciples of Christ. My one and only prayer for you all is that you don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn the truth about your heavenly Father, so that you do not go, The Impossible Way.

Book excerpt: During the most scientifically advanced period in human history, belief in the paranormal and the supernatural is alarmingly common. Nobel Prize winner Georges Charpak and physics professor Henri Broch team up to show you the tricks of the trade and sleight of hand that keep astrologers, TV psychics, and spoon benders in business. Using only the simplest of science, the authors explore the effectiveness of horoscopes--the blander the better--and why, with a television audience in the millions, any strange, unlikely prediction is almost certain to come true. Not merely an exposé of magic tricks, this book demonstrates how pseudoscientists use science, statistics, and psychology to bamboozle an audience--sometimes for fun, sometimes for profit. Entertaining and enlightening, Debunked! is the antidote, vigorously asserting the virtues of doubt, skepticism, curiosity, and scientific knowledge.--From publisher description.

Download or read book First Sight written by James C. Carpenter and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Often seen as supernatural, unpredictable, illusory and possibly dangerous, ESP, telepathy, clairvoyance and other parapsychological activities are actually happening all the time and help us make sense of everyday experiences. First Sight provides a new way of understanding such experiences and describes a way of thinking about the unconscious mind that makes it clear that these abilities are not rare and anomalous, but instead are used by all of us all the time, unconsciously and efficiently. Drawing upon a broad array of studies in contemporary psychology, the author integrates a new model for understanding these unusual abilities with the best research in psychology on problems as diverse as memory, perception, personality, creativity and fear. In doing so, he illustrates how the field of parapsychology, which, historically, has been riddled with confusion, skepticism and false claims, can move from the edges of science to its center, where it will offer fascinating new knowledge about unmapped aspects of our nature. The author demonstrates that the new model accounts for accumulated findings very well, and explains previous mysteries, resolves apparent contradictions, and offers clear directions for further study. First Sight also ventures beyond the laboratory to explain such things as why apparent paranormal experiences are so rare, why they need not be feared, and how they can be more intentionally accessed. Further study of this theory is likely to lead to a "technology" of parapsychological processes while drastically revising our conception of the science of the mind toward a new science more humane and more replete with possibility than we have imagined in the past.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using case studies and the results of extensive fieldwork, this book considers the nature of state power and legal violence in liberal democracies by focusing on the interaction between law, science, and policing in India. The postcolonial Indian police have often been accused of using torture in both routine and exceptional criminal cases, but they, and forensic psychologists, have claimed that lie detectors, brain scans, and narcoanalysis (the use of “truth serum,” Sodium Pentothal) represent a paradigm shift away from physical torture; most state high courts in India have upheld this rationale. The Truth Machines examines the emergence and use of these three scientific techniques to analyze two primary themes. First, the book questions whether existing theoretical frameworks for understanding state power and legal violence are adequate to explain constant innovations of the state. Second, it explores the workings of law, science, and policing in the everyday context to generate a theory of state power and legal violence, challenging the monolithic frameworks about this relationship, based on a study of both state and non-state actors. Jinee Lokaneeta argues that the attempt to replace physical torture with truth machines in India fails because it relies on a confessional paradigm that is contiguous with torture. Her work also provides insights into a police institution that is founded and refounded in its everyday interactions between state and non-state actors. Theorizing a concept of Contingent State, this book demonstrates the disaggregated, and decentered nature of state power and legal violence, creating possible sites of critique and intervention.

Book Do You See What I See

Download or read book Do You See What I See written by Russell Targ and published by Hampton Roads Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback, the droll memoir by a world-class physicist that includes recollections of his involvement with pioneering laser research, encounters with many of the most recognizable literary, cultural, and entertainment figures of the 20th century, and his role in teaching ESP techniques to the CIA--a real-life X-Files saga. Russll Targ is a Zelig-like character. His story is an idiosyncratic journey through the highways and byways of American intellectual, scientific, and cultural life in 20th century. His father (the long-time editor-in-chief at Putnam) acquired The Godfather on the basis of an outline scribbled on the back of a napkin. His mother was the first press agent of the fan dancer Sally Rand. His step-mother is the legendary literary agent Rosalind Targ. He was married for thirty years to the sister of the infamous chess master Bobby Fischer. He briefly dated Henny Youngman’s cousin. He attended college with Alan Alda’s wife, Arlene. He was part of Ayn Rand’s study group in the 1950s--along with economist Alan Greenspan. He was a pioneer in laser research. He spent many years developing air-borne laser wind sensors for Lockheed and NASA. He co-founded the Stanford Research Institute remote viewing program--which was funded by the CIA--and was instrumental in tracking Soviet and Chinese weapon installations during the Cold War. And, he is a legally blind motorcyclist—who happens to be a Buddhist. This is a fascinating memoir by a first-class intellect; the story of a physicist who has pushed the boundaries of siceince to explory the realms of parapsychology, spirituality, and the unexplained.
