Download or read book Running the Long Path written by Kenneth A. Posner and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2016-09-30 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the 2016 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award in the Sports category Have you ever considered running 350 miles in nine days? Kenneth A. Posner did just that when he completed a record-setting run along New York's Long Path, a 350-mile hiking trail that stretches from New York City to Albany. Running the Long Path's page-turning narrative combines the thrill and challenges of Posner's extreme endurance feat with the stunning natural beauty and deep historical significance of New York's Hudson Valley. A one-time casual runner, Posner shares his excitement of developing into a trail-runner and eventually an ultrarunner, as well as the pursuit of a "fastest known time"—a new dimension of extreme trail running, where some of the sport's fastest and most experienced athletes vie to set new speed records for important trails. Hikers, walkers, and runners will appreciate his detailed descriptions of planning, pacing, gear selection, nutrition, hydration, and navigation, which will help them prepare for their own adventures on the trails. Interspersed with the running adventure, Posner relates the interesting stories of the Long Path and the places it passes through, which include some of New York's most important parks and preserves and the distinctive mountains and forests they protect. Throughout the book, he channels the voices of famous New Yorkers associated with the Long Path—Walt Whitman, John Burroughs, Theodore Roosevelt, and Raymond Torrey—who express their appreciation of the natural beauty of the region. Running the Long Path is the story of what ordinary people can accomplish with a little determination and a lot of grit. Whether you walk or run, you will find inspiration in Posner's tale.
Download or read book Black Mass written by Aloysius D. Fernandez and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-04-14 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indeed, it is a story of a life search. Born and brought up in a traditional Catholic family, it is just a look into the various paths I have trodden in my search to rediscover the actual path of Jesus. Rooted in Christian faith and theology, the book is an expression of my basic position with the poor and the marginalized sections of the people in their struggle for liberation. In this process, God, faith, religion, morality, society, and family—all are to be seen with a perspective, different from the traditional. This book is an attempt to this effect.
Download or read book The Old Boston Post Road written by Stephen Jenkins and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2017 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephen Jenkins has chosen for the subject of this volume the oldest and most northerly of the post roads: that over which the first postrider went; which echoed to the war-whoop of the savage, saw the passage of soldiers during the French Wars; beheld the flocking of the minutemen upon the Lexington Alarm, later became the pathway of countless thousands of emigrants on their way to the rich valleys of the Mohawk and the Genesee, or to the fertile prairies of the Middle West. By this route, via New Haven, Hartford, Springfield, and Worcester, a monthly mail was established in 1673, "the first mail upon the continent of America," as the author declares. He traces these pioneer settlements to their present positions as mauufacturing towns and cities.

While perceived as familiar and understood, numbers present fascinating and often mysterious patterns, relationships and pedagogical issues. The Learning and Teaching of Number explores how mathematics education research has addressed issues related to the structure of numbers and number operations and provides a classroom context. It invites readers to explore less-travelled paths through a well-trodden terrain of number. This fascinating book combines mathematical content with pedagogical ideas and research results. Focusing on number, the book illustrates central ideas related to numbers via a variety of tasks at different levels of complexity. The Learning and Teaching of Number will allow the reader to examine and develop personal understanding of number sets and the relationships among them; enhance personal understanding of familiar topics associated with number operations; engage in a variety of tasks and strengthen personal problem-solving skills; enrich their repertoire of mathematical tasks and pedagogical actions; and consider research ideas and results related to teaching numbers, number operations and number relationships. This book was released on 2021-11-23 with total page 3231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Branch was an American author of fantasy fiction and belles-lettres. Cabell was well-regarded by his contemporaries, including H. L. Mencken, Edmund Wilson, and Sinclair Lewis. His works were considered escapist. Although escapist, Cabell's works are ironic and satirical. Cabell's best-known book is Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice. The eponymous hero, who considers himself a "monstrous clever fellow", embarks on a journey through ever more fantastic realms, even to hell and heaven. Everywhere he goes, he winds up seducing the local women, even the Devil's wife. A great deal of Cabell's work has focused on the Biography of the Life of Manuel, the story of a character named Dom Manuel and his descendants through many generations. Many of these books take place in the fictional country eventually ruled by Manuel, known as "Poictesme". Several other books take place in the fictional town of Lichfield, Virginia. His later novel, The First Gentleman of America: A Comedy of Conquest, retells the strange career of an American Indian from the shores of the Potomac who sailed away with Spanish explorers, later to return, be made chief of his tribe, and kill all the Spaniards in the new Virginia settlement. Cabell also wrote a number of autobiographical and genealogical works. The Eagle’s Shadow The Line of Love Gallantry The Cords of Vanity Chivalry The Soul of Melicent The Rivet in Grandfather’s Neck The Certain Hour From the Hidden Way The Cream of the Jest Some Ladies and Jurgen Beyond Life Jurgen The Judging of Jurgen Figures of Earth Taboo The Jewel Merchants The Lineage of Lichfield The High Place Straws and Prayer-Books
