Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the dramatic experience of religious conver sion. The phenomenon of religious conversion lies at the crossroad of several disciplines. As the title of this book indicates, my own interest in religious conversion is not sociological, historical, nor anthropolog ical. My primary interest is not even in the domain of the psychology of religion. That is, this book is not a comprehensive review of the social psychological factors that shape religious beliefs in general and religious conversions in particular. Rather, my primary interest is in the experience of conversion as an instance of a meaningful, sudden change in the course of individu al lives. Religious conversion is examined in this book prinwrily from the point of view of the psychology of the self. My aim is to elucidate the experience of religious conversion as a change in the self and to raise suggestions for the study of the self that derive from the data on religious conversion. This interest dictated the scope as well as the methods of the present investigation. Namely, I have chosen to study individuals who have indeed changed visibly as a result of their conversion. My inquiry was based on self-report, assuming the importance of the person's own point of view. Finally, my inquiry was semi-clinical, vii viii PREFACE based on the assumption of an underlying structure to the varieties of conversion experiences.

Book excerpt: “Matt Heard writes winsomely and compellingly, answering that quiet aching so many people – yes, even Christians – have that there must be more to life…. I highly recommend Life With a Capital L!” - Joni Eareckson Tada, Joni and Friends International Disability Center What is it that you long for? Dream about? Hunger after? We all desire more than just the endurance of our daily routines. But often we feel limited and stuck — like we’re merely existing instead of living. That’s not the way it was meant to be. God intends the humanity in each of us to be deeply experienced, lavishly enjoyed, and exuberantly celebrated. In fact this is what the gospel is all about. Yes, the gospel. Contrary to conventional thinking — inside and outside the church — following Jesus is not about denying our humanness but embracing it. Rather than acting more spiritual or being more religious, we’re called and enabled to become more fully human… and alive. Matt Heard escorts us on a journey of discovery: that Jesus didn’t come to save us from our humanity — Christ instead yearns to restore it to what God originally intended. Matt then explores ten key areas where everyday life can become extraordinary Life. Christ promised we could “live life to the full.” He didn’t just mean eventually. Life with a Capital L is the Life you are longing for. Now.

Book Self and Salvation

  • Author : David F. Ford
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1999-03-04
  • ISBN : 9780521416078
  • Pages : 322 pages

Download or read book Self and Salvation written by David F. Ford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-03-04 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eagerly awaited book by David F. Ford makes a unique and important contribution to the debate about the Christian doctrine of salvation. Using the pivotal image of the face, Professor Ford offers a constructive and contemporary account of the self being transformed. He engages with three modern thinkers (Levinas, Jüngel and Ricoeur) in order to rethink and reimagine the meaning of self. Developing the concept of a worshipping self, he explores the dimensions of salvation through the lenses of scripture, worship practices, the life, death and resurrection of Christ, and the lives of contemporary saints. He uses different genres and traditions to show how the self flourishes through engagement with God, other people, and the responsibilities and joys of ordinary living. The result is a habitable theology of salvation immersed in Christian faith, thought and practice while also being deeply involved with modern life in a pluralist world.

Download or read book Transformed Life written by John Carter and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Personal transformation requires radical change. It has been said that the only thing you can count on in this world is that nothing stays the same. You can change your address, your job, your wardrobe, and your friends - you can even change your name - BUT your life will not transform until you change the way you think. Becoming a Christian ignites the process of transformation. Your relationship with God, eternal destination, and true self become new. Yet even with all these wonderful changes, we are left in a world, remain in a body, and are stuck with a mind that is pretty much the same. In this book, John Carter will teach you that God has designed a plan of genuine transformation for every person, one that goes far beyond the initial moment of salvation. Whether you realize it or not, you have the capacity and power to influence the direction of your life through a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.

Book Be Your Future Self Now

Download or read book Be Your Future Self Now written by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2023-08-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This isn’t a book about BECOMING it’s about BEING: noted psychologist Dr. Benjamin Hardy shows how to imagine the person you want to be, then BE that person now. When you do this, your imagined FUTURE directs your behavior, rather than your past. Who is your Future-Self? That question may seem trite. But it’s literally the answer to all of your life’s questions. It’s the answer to what you’re going to do today. It’s the answer to how motivated you are, and how you feel about yourself. It’s the answer to whether you’ll distract yourself on social media for hours, whether you’ll eat junk food, and what time you get up in the morning. Your imagined Future-Self is the driver of your current reality. It is up to you to develop the ability to imagine better and more expansive visions of your Future-Self. Your current view of your Future-Self is very limited. If you seek learning, growth, and new experiences, you’ll be able to imagine a different and better Future-Self than you currently can. It’s not only useful to see your Future-Self as a different person from who you are today, but it is also completely accurate. Your Future-Self will not be the same person you are today. They will see the world differently. They’ll have had experiences, challenges, and growth you currently don’t have. They’ll have different goals and priorities. They’ll have different habits. They’ll also be in a different world—a world with different cultural values, different technologies, and different challenges.

One of the first metamorphoses we discover as a child is the universally quoted change of the caterpillar into the butterfly. The positive symbolism of this transformation is liberally applied to illustrate the change from "ugly duckling" to "elegant swan" in all fields. This symbolism readily transfers to just about any change for the better. The guidance of individuals who have experienced positive change with mentoring, have taken calculated risks, and enjoyed accomplishments in their field may be seen as role models. Book Transformed

Download or read book Transformed written by Remi Adeleke and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would it take for one young Black man not only to rise above statistics but also become a Navy SEAL, actor, entrepreneur, writer, and successful husband and father? In Transformed, Remi Adeleke takes you back to stories from his childhood, from living as Nigerian royalty to losing his father early in life and being stripped financially of everything by the Nigerian government. Following his father’s death, he and his mother and brother relocated permanently to the Bronx where his single mother struggled to provide for the family. Statistics tell us that African American males who grow up in a single-parent household are nine times more likely to drop out of high school and twenty times more likely to end up in prison than any other demographic. While it would have been easy to believe that he could never beat those odds, Remi Adeleke refused to fall victim to that premise. Sharing his incredible journey through the struggles of his life, Remi doesn’t shy away from his illegal activities as a young man that threatened to derail his future as a Navy SEAL. He shares: How perseverance transformed his life despite all odds How taking ownership of his mistakes and shortcomings led him to success His hard-earned wisdom gained over years of struggle Belief that the adversities, trials, and tribulations he went through were specific moves by God At every turn, including throughout his naval career, Adeleke found a way to overcome the odds, even when it didn’t make sense. Remi Adeleke’s journey of following God’s voice, rising above statistics, and experiencing true personal transformation will inspire and move you.

Book The Transformed Leader

Download or read book The Transformed Leader written by Ernest L. Stech and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A single portrait of the enlightened leader and wise person has existed in the world's literature for over 2,000 years and for much longer in mythology. The portrait is fleshed out with modern work in humanistic psychology and the psychology of archetypes. The resulting picture is of an individual, transformed as a result of life's journey, who stands in two worlds: the realm of the possible and the land of the practical. The transformed leader perspective is universal, timeless, gender-free, and based on fundamental truths about human nature. By undergoing a transformative process, either deliberately or involuntarily, a leader discovers a life mission and true vocation. The transforming journey results in someone who is tough, passionate, humble, sees the world clearly, and perseveres, all traits needed in the ordinary world. However, the transformed leader also has a vision of the possible, of what could be, together with faith that the possible can become tangible. Having been set free of the boundaries of ordinary existence, the transformed leader is spontaneous and creative. Finally, that person experiences transcendence, a sense of uniqueness and being specially chosen. Being chosen is at once energizing and a burden. The Transformed Leader relies on the work of Joseph Campbell in mythology, the writings of Lao Tze and other Taoist writers, Carol Pearson's efforts to describe basic human archetypes, and Abraham Maslow's studies in humanistic psychology. A single picture of the transformed person and leader emerges from those sources. Transformation is distinguished from training and development processes and a survey of transformative events and activities is provided. A concluding chapter deals with the kinds of relationships a transformed leader might have with subordinates, the ways in which such a leader would work over time, and the contexts in which the transformed leader is most likely to flourish.

Download or read book Self Transformation Techniques written by Steve Van Gard and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-04-09 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this modern dynamic world that brings us challenges from the moment we wake up to the second we put our head on the pillow, there is an ever-growing desire to thrive. A desire to achieve and overcome our limitations. But it is not in the material goals that we will find our growth and development as human beings because there is no better achievement than our own transformation. Self transformation may seem difficult at first and it is not for everyone. Yes, everyone can do it as we all have been blessed with an immense amount of inner resources, but not everyone will be brave enough to embark on the journey of personal growth. Can you imagine yourself three months from now? How about one year from now? Where do you want to be? How do you want your life to look like? Because if that is not a good enough trigger for you then you will need to find the motivation that will push you forward. Unless you want your life one year from now to look exactly the same. The book will focus on techniques that might make you raise your eyebrows or that you might even find outrageous. Stay with them. This only means that your mind has been programmed for so long with a certain way of thinking and looking at the world that you will need to really make an effort to dedicate yourself to transformation. It means that there is an even greater call for transformation and your current lifestyle might need to be reframed on several levels. We are human beings and our tendency is to resist change. But when noticing that change looks like an impossible task, the effort is to keep the mind open. Read. Listen. Try. Adapt. Trust the process. Inside you will find: - How to discover the power of thoughts in your everyday life - The difference between reaction and response - The importance of routines - Good and bad habits, and their patterns - How the right Community can help - The vision of tansformation and the plan to achieve it - How and when taking action
