About The Book The Three Musketeers It was not till the publication of "The Three Musketeers," in 1844, that the amazing gifts of Dumas were fully recognised. From 1844 till 1850, the literary output of novels, plays, and historical memoirs was enormous, and so great was the demand for Dumas' work that he made no attempt to supply his customers single-handed, but engaged a host of assistants, and was content to revise and amend--or in some cases only to sign--their productions. "The Three Musketeers" was followed by its sequel, "Twenty Years After," in 1845, and the story was continued still further in the "Vicomte de Bragelonne." The "Valois" series of novels, "Monte Cristo," and the "Memoirs of a Physician," were all published before 1850, in addition to many dramatised versions of stories. Book Twenty Years After Christmas Summary Classics

Download or read book Twenty Years After Christmas Summary Classics written by Alexandre Dumas and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-01-04 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christmas Summary Classics This series contains summary of Classic books such as Emma, Arne, Arabian Nights, Pride and prejudice, Tower of London, Wealth of Nations etc. Each book is specially crafted after reading complete book in less than 30 pages. One who wants to get joy of book reading especially in very less time can go for it. About The Book Twenty Years After In this first-rate romance, which is a sequel to "The Three Musketeers," and was published in 1845, we have D'Artagnan and the three musketeers in the prime of middle life. Their efforts on behalf of Charles I. are amazing, worthy of anything done when they were twenty years younger. All the characters introduced are for the most part historical, and they are all drawn with spirit, so that our interest in them never flags. A remarkable point in regard to these historical romances of Dumas is that, in spite of their enormous length, no superfluous dialogue or long descriptions prolong them. Dumas took considerable liberties with the facts of history in several places, as, for instance, in the introduction of D'Artagnan and his friends to Charles I., and in making his trial and execution follow as quickly on his surrender as we are made to believe in "Twenty Years After." The story is further continued in "The Vicomte de Bragelonne." For more eBooks visit www.kartindo.com

One who wants to get joy of book reading especially in very less time can go for it. About The Book The Count of Monte Cristo "The Count of Monte Cristo" appeared in 1844, when Dumas had been writing plays and stories for twenty years, and at a period when he was most extraordinarily prolific. In that year, assisted by his staff of compilers and transcribers, he is said to have turned out something like forty volumes! "Monte Cristo" first gave Dumas' novels a world-wide audience. Its unflagging spirit, the endless surprises, and the air of reality which was cast over the most extravagant situations made the work worthy of the popularity it enjoyed in almost every country in the world. The island from which it takes its name is a barren rock rising 2,000 feet out of the sea a few miles south of Elba. Dumas attempted to emulate Scott, and built a chAcentsteau near St. Germain, which he called Monte Cristo, costing over $125,000. It was afterwards sold for a tenth of that sum to pay his debts. One who wants to get joy of book reading especially in very less time can go for it. About The Book Alexandre Dumas pere, the great French novelist and dramatist, who here tells the story of his youth, was born on July 24, 1802, and died on December 5, 1870. He was a man of prodigious vitality, virility, and invention; abounding in enjoyment, gaiety, vanity, and kindness; the richness, force, and celerity of his nature was amazing. In regard to this peculiar vivacity of his, it is interesting to remember that one of his grandparents was a full-blooded negress. Dumas' literary work is essentially romantic; his themes are courage, loyalty, honour, love, pageantry, and adventure; he belongs to the tradition of Scott and Schiller, but as a story-teller excels every other. His plays and novels are both very numerous; the "OEuvres Completes," published between 1860 and 1884, fill 277 volumes. Probably "Monte Cristo" and "The Three Musketeers" are the most famous of his stories. He was an untiring and exceedingly rapid worker, a great collaborator employing many assistants, and was also a shameless plagiarist; but he succeeded in impressing his own quality on all that he published. Besides plays and novels there are several books of travel. His son, Alexandre, was born in 1824. The "Memoirs," published in 1852, which are here followed through their author's struggles to his triumph, may be the work of the novelist as well as of the chronicler, but they give a most convincing impression of his courageous and brilliant youth, fired equally by art and by ambition. Book Marguerite de Valois Christmas Summary Classics

Download or read book Marguerite de Valois Christmas Summary Classics written by Alexandre Dumas and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 24 pages. About The Book Alexandre Dumas, pere (to distinguish him from his son of the same name), early became known as a talented writer, and especially as a poet and dramatist. His first published work appeared in 1823; then came volumes of poems in 1825, 1826, and the drama of "Henry III." in 1828. In "Marguerite de Valois," published in 1845, the first of the "Valois" series of historical romances, Dumas takes us back from the days of Richelieu and the "Three Musketeers" to the preceding century and the early struggles of Catholic and Huguenot. It was a stirring time in France, full of horrors and bloodshed, plots and intrigues, when Marguerite de Valois married Henry of Navarre, and Alexandre Dumas gives us, in his wonderfully, vivid and attractive style, a great picture of the French court in the time of Charles IX. Little affection existed between Henry and his bride, but strong ties of interest and ambition bound them together, and for a long time they both adhered loyally to the treaty of political alliance they had drawn up for their mutual advantage. Dumas died on December 5, 1870, after experiencing many changes of fortune. His son also won considerable reputation as a dramatist and novelist. For more eBooks visit www.kartindo.com

Book The Black Tulip Christmas Summary Classics

One who wants to get joy of book reading especially in very less time can go for it. About The Book The Black Tulip "The Black Tulip," published in 1850, was the last of Alexandre Dumas' more famous stories, and ranks deservedly high among the short novels of its prolific author. Dumas visited Holland in May, 1849, in order to be present at the coronation of William III. at Amsterdam, and according to Flotow, the composer, it was the king himself who told Dumas the story of "The Black Tulip," and mentioned that none of the author's romances were concerned with the Dutch. Dumas, however, never gave any credit to this anecdote, and others have alleged that Paul Lacroix, the bibliophile, who was assisting Dumas with his novels at that time, is responsible for the plot. The question can never be answered, for who can disentangle the work of Dumas from that of his army of helpers? A feature of "The Black Tulip" is that in it is the bulb, and not a human being, that is the real centre of interest. The fate of the bulb is made of first importance, and the fortunes of Cornelius van Baerle, the tulip fancier, of Boxtel, and of Rosa, the gaoler's daughter, exciting though they are, take second place. Book The Three Musketeers the Complete and Unabridged Original Classic Edition in Large Print

Download or read book The Three Musketeers the Complete and Unabridged Original Classic Edition in Large Print written by Alexandre Dumas and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-07-06 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This premium quality large print edition contains the complete and unabridged classic version of The Three Musketeers, printed on heavyweight, bright white paper in a large 7.44"x9.69" format, with a fully laminated full-color cover featuring an original design. One of the most widely-read and best-known historical adventure novels of all time, The Three Musketeers has delighted readers for generations since it first appeared in 1844. Filled with action and adventure, the novel depicts actual historical events more closely than most would imagine. Dumas' wit and sense of humor is woven throughout, creating a highly entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable tale which has become a truly timeless classic with readers around the world. The year is 1625 and France is ruled by King Louis XIII, weak, indecisive, and heavily influenced by his Minister, Cardinal Richelieu. Young D'Artagnan, brash and provincial, arrives in Paris hoping to become a member of the King's Musketeers, and almost immediately offends three members of that elite corps, Porthos, Aramis, and Athos. Arranging separate but virtually simultaneous duels with each, the four meet but instead of dueling among themselves they band together when attacked by the Cardinal's guards. The four become fast friends, and, when asked by D'Artagnan's landlord to find his missing wife, embark upon a series of adventures that embroils them in the intrigues of the Royal Court and the machinations of Cardinal Richelieu and his most dangerous agent, a beautiful young spy known simply as "Milady," who will stop at nothing to disgrace the Queen, advance the agenda of her master, and take her revenge upon the four friends who have interfered with her schemes. Alexandre Dumas (born Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, 1802-1870), was a French playwright, novelist, essayist and magazine and travelogue writer. One of the most widely read French authors, his works have been translated into nearly 100 languages. Best known today for his historical adventure novels, including The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers, his works, comprising some 100,000 pages, have been the basis for nearly 200 films. Dumas' father, a General born in Saint-Domingue (present-day Haiti) to a French nobleman and an African slave, used his aristocratic rank to help Alexandre secure a position with Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orlans. With the accession of Louis-Napolon in 1851, Dumas fell out of favor, moving to Belgium for several years before relocating to Russia and then Italy before returning to Paris in 1864. The married Dumas carried on numerous affairs, perhaps with as many as forty different women, fathering at least four and possibly as many as seven illegitimate children, including a boy named after him. This son, a successful novelist and playwright, became known as Alexandre Dumas, fils (son), while the father became known as Alexandre Dumas, pre (father). His last novel, The Knight of Sainte-Hermine, unfinished at his death, was completed by another writer and published in 2005, becoming a bestseller. In 2008 a translation was published in English as The Last Cavalier.
