Book The Third Internationai Conference on Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems

Download or read book The Third Internationai Conference on Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite materials are widely used in a variety of applied technologies including transportation, off-shore, power, electronics, communications, sports equipment, and infrastructure industries. In the last few years, these applications have matured in many ways. For example, polymer composites are increasingly used in primary and man-rated structures. A controlling feature of the general use of composite systems is their damage tolerance, durability, and reliability. That is the subject of the present book. The papers in this volume were generated as a result of the Third International Conference on Progress in Durability Analysis of Composite Systems, held on 14-17 September 1997 on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Delegates from 19 countries and more than a dozen universities and a like number of industries participated in the conference.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite material systems are the basis for much of the natural world around us and are rapidly becoming the basis for many modern engineering components. A controlling feature for the general use of such systems is their damage tolerance, durability and reliability. The present book is a comprehensive cross section of the state of the art in the field of the durability of polymer-based, composite, and adhesive systems. As such, it is of special value to researchers concerned with the frontier of the field, to students concerned with the substance of the subject, and to the applied community concerned with the finding methodologies that make it possible to design safe and durable engineering components using material systems.

Book Durability of Composite Systems

Download or read book Durability of Composite Systems written by Kenneth Reifsnider and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-02 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Durability of Composite Systems meets the challenge of defining these precepts and requirements, from first principles, to applications in a diverse selection of technical fields selected to form a corpus of concepts and methodologies that define the field of durability in composite material systems as a modern discipline. That discipline includes not only the classical rigor of mechanics, physics and chemistry, but also the critical elements of thermodynamics, data analytics, and statistical uncertainty quantification as well as other requirements of the modern subject. This book provides a comprehensive summary of the field, suited to both reference and instructional use. It will be essential reading for academic and industrial researchers, materials scientists and engineers and all those working in the design, analysis and manufacture of composite material systems. - Makes essential direct and detailed connections to modern concepts and methodologies, such as machine learning, systems controls, sustainable and resilient systems, and additive manufacturing - Provides a careful balance between theory and practice so that presentations of details of methodology and philosophy are always driven by a context of applications and examples - Condenses selected information regarding the durability of composite materials in a wide spectrum of applications in the automotive, wind energy, civil engineering, medical devices, electrical systems, aerospace and nuclear fields

Book Fluid Effects in Polymers and Polymeric Composites

Download or read book Fluid Effects in Polymers and Polymeric Composites written by Y. Jack Weitsman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-18 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Effects in Polymers and Polymeric Composites, written by the late Dr. Y. Jack Weitsman, addresses the wide range of parameters that affect the interaction of fluids with polymers and polymeric composites. The book aims at broadening the scope of available data, mostly limited up to this time to weight-gain recordings of fluid ingress into polymers and composites, to the practical circumstances of fluctuating exposure. Various forms of experimental data are given, in conjunction with theoretical models derived from basic scientific principles, and correlated with severity of exposure conditions and interpreted by means of rationally based theoretical models. The practical implications of the effects of fluids are discussed. The issue of fluid effects on polymers and polymeric composites is of concern to engineers and scientists active in aerospace and naval structures, as an increasing portion of these structures are made of polymeric composites and employ polymeric adhesives as a joining device. While the book is intended for this audience, it will also interest researchers and graduate students interested in the mechanics and materials aspects of this matter.
