Book Thermal Accommodation Coefficient for Air on Tungsten

Download or read book Thermal Accommodation Coefficient for Air on Tungsten written by Charles A. LAU and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inherently difficult problem of determining thermal accommodation coefficients in air is studied. A solution, to lower the ambient temperature, is tendered. The thermal accommodation coefficient of air on a tungsten wire, 0.005 inches in diameter and 20 inches long, was investigated in the free molecule regime. The coefficient was found to decrease with an increase in temperature; at 140 F and 440 F the values of the coefficient were 0.85 and 0.20, respectively. (Author).

Book W Tungsten

    Book Details:
  • Author :
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 3662086875
  • Pages : 437 pages

Download or read book W Tungsten written by and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present supplement volume, A 7, is the first of a triad, A 5 to A 7, dealing with the chemical reactions of metallic tungsten. It describes the reactions with inorganic and organic compounds, except for formation reactions of organotungsten compounds. Volume A 6, to appear at the beginning of 1988, will cover the reactions of tungsten with metallic elements. Volume A 5, in preparation for 1988/89, will contain the reactions with nonmetallic elements and, in addition, cover the electrochemistry of tungsten. With the appearance of this last volume, the present knowledge of the chemistry of tungsten will be compiled in more than 1000 pages. In the Gmelin main volume on tungsten, published in 1933, the presentation of the information then available on the same subject required less than 6 pages. This enormous increase in relevant data over the last fifty years is stupefying, considering the fact that tungsten is a rather inert metal which is resistant to most chemical agents up to high temperatures. With afew exceptions,in fact, it was not so much the reactions of bulk tungsten which attracted the interest of the experimenters as the reactions taking place at its surface. This comes about for practical as well as scientific reasons.

Book Atomic and Ionic Impact Phenomena on Metal Surfaces

Download or read book Atomic and Ionic Impact Phenomena on Metal Surfaces written by M. Kaminsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collisions of neutral or charged gaseous particles with solid surfaces govern many physical and chemical phenomena, as has been The gas/solid phenomena in turn depend on a recognized for a long time. great variety of processes such as the charge transfer of the gas/solid interface, adsorption and desorption, the energy transfer between an incident particle and the surface, etc. Our knowledge of these processes, however, is only fragmentary. This is partly due to the difficulty in adequately controlling the ex perimental conditions. Consequently, until recently the data were usually so complex that reliable information about a particular elementary process could not be deduced. Within the last five to ten years, however, the techniques of ultra-high vacuum and surface preparation have developed rapidly and there has been a booming and widespread interest in the role of gas/solid interactions in such diverse fields as plasma physics, thermonuclear reactions, thermionic energy conversion, ion propulsion, sputtering corrosion of the surface of satellites and ion engines, ion getter pumps, deposition of thin films, etc. This led to extensive investigations of numerous gas/solid phenomena, such as surface ionization, sputtering, emission of secondary electrons and ions from surfaces under atom and/or ion impact, ion neutralization, and the thermal accomodation of gaseous particles on surfaces. As a result, it has become possible to gather a variety of valuable information.
