Book excerpt: Reincarnation is the idea and some would say fact that after we die we return and live other lives. The reason for this cycle is that the world offers us the chance to grow and learn based on the many physical challenges it offers. When we have learned and progressed enough, through numerous lives, there will be no more need to return. This book covers the various cultures that accept the idea, and what it really means to us, as individuals. Those who are steeped in pure logic reject the idea due to the lack of strong scientific evidence. They fail to realize that one cannot present spiritual proofs in a laboratory. Matter itself and the material world can show physical evidence but spirit and matter are two separate things. So where is the proof for reincarnation? One good answer, and a great starting point, is to open this book. Spiritual proof exists for those who can comprehend it.

Book Trauma and the Supernatural in Psychotherapy

Download or read book Trauma and the Supernatural in Psychotherapy written by Alex Monk and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trauma and the Supernatural in Psychotherapy explores how traumatic experience interacts with unconscious phantasy based in folklore, the supernatural, and the occult. Drawing upon psychoanalysis, anthropology, the arts, and esoteric philosophy, Alex Monk presents examples from folklore and literature to enrich his case illustrations which offer therapists important clinical perspectives on ways of working with clients who feel cursed and repeatedly manifest self-sabotaging states. The book examines the challenges that can arise when working with this client population and illustrates how to work through them while navigating potent transferences and projective identifications. Monk illustrates the way in which clients with developmental trauma may experience the supernatural and its psychic representatives as persecutory and/or a source of empowerment and healing. Trauma and the Supernatural in Psychotherapy also considers the historically conflicted relationship between psychoanalysis and the supernatural and proposes treatment perspectives which are not implicitly dependent upon a materialist paradigm. This book will be of great interest to psychotherapists and counsellors who have an interest in clinical work concerning the connection of relational trauma to unconscious forms of communication and uncanny phenomena arising between therapist and client.

Book Reimagining Tibet

Download or read book Reimagining Tibet written by Koushik Goswami and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-28 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how territorial, civilisational and cultural location determines one’s gaze and attitude while representing a contested space like Tibet. It analyses representations of Tibet in three novels: James Hilton’s Lost Horizon (1933), Jamyang Norbu’s The Mandala of Sherlock Holmes (1999) and Kaushik Barua’s Windhorse (2013). It shows how these novels project different types of gaze — insider, outsider and insider-outsider — and explores them within the context of some contemporary Tibetan activist writers. The book also looks at Tibetan exilic writings and virtual activities of the Tibetan activists whose programmes and rhetoric counter the age-old image of the Tibetans as passive and non-violent people. It shows how activists utilise social networking as an effective platform to counter imperialist occupation of Tibet by China. It includes interviews of eight Anglophone Tibetan writers – Tenzin Tsundue, Thubten Samphel, Tsering Namgyal Khortsa, Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, Jamyang Norbu, Tenzin Dickie, Bhuchung D. Sonam, and an Indian writer who has written on Tibet, Kaushik Barua. Interdisciplinary, accessible and engaging, this book presents one of the first studies on how Tibet has been represented in English fiction. It will be of interest to scholars and researchers of literature, media and cultural studies, politics, history and China studies.
