Book Marine Gyro Compasses and Automatic Pilots

Download or read book Marine Gyro Compasses and Automatic Pilots written by W. Burger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine Gyro-Compasses and Automatic Pilots: A Handbook for Merchant Navy Officers, Volume One: Gyro Compasses is manual for the various types of compass utilized in naval navigation. The text details the apparent motion of fixed objects, and then proceeds to discussing the principles of free gyroscopes. Next, the selection tackles controlled gyroscopes and gyroscopic compasses. The text also covers errors and corrections, along with the comparison of gyroscopic and magnetic compasses. The subsequent chapters talk about the different types of gyro compasses, such as Sperry Gyro-Compass Mark E. XIV, The Brown Gyro-Compass Types A and B, Arma-Brown Compass, and The Marine Gyrosyn Compass. The book will be of great use to student and professional maritime navigators.

Book The General Problem of the Motion of Coupled Rigid Bodies about a Fixed Point

Download or read book The General Problem of the Motion of Coupled Rigid Bodies about a Fixed Point written by Eugene Leimanis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the theory of motion of several coupled rigid bodies about a fixed point one can distinguish three basic ramifications. 1. The first, the so-called classical direction of investigations, is concerned with particular cases of integrability ot the equations of motion of a single rigid body about a fixed point,1 and with their geo metrical interpretation. This path of thought was predominant until the beginning of the 20th century and its most illustrious represen tatives are L. EULER (1707-1783), J L. LAGRANGE (1736-1813), L. POINSOT (1777-1859), S. V. KOVALEVSKAYA (1850-1891), and others. Chapter I of the present monograph intends to reflect this branch of investigations. For collateral reading on the general questions dealt with in this chapter the reader is referred to the following textbooks and reports: A. DOMOGAROV [1J, F. KLEIN and A. SOMMERFELD [11, 1 , 1 J, A. Book Mechanical Systems Classical Models

Download or read book Mechanical Systems Classical Models written by Petre P. Teodorescu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-30 with total page 781 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All phenomena in nature are characterized by motion. Mechanics deals with the objective laws of mechanical motion of bodies, the simplest form of motion. In the study of a science of nature, mathematics plays an important rôle. Mechanics is the first science of nature which has been expressed in terms of mathematics, by considering various mathematical models, associated to phenomena of the surrounding nature. Thus, its development was influenced by the use of a strong mathematical tool. As it was already seen in the first two volumes of the present book, its guideline is precisely the mathematical model of mechanics. The classical models which we refer to are in fact models based on the Newtonian model of mechanics, that is on its five principles, i.e.: the inertia, the forces action, the action and reaction, the independence of the forces action and the initial conditions principle, respectively. Other models, e.g., the model of attraction forces between the particles of a discrete mechanical system, are part of the considered Newtonian model. Kepler’s laws brilliantly verify this model in case of velocities much smaller then the light velocity in vacuum.

Download or read book Instruments of Science written by Robert Bud and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 1998 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With over 300 entries from the ancient abacus to X-ray diffraction, as represented by a ca. 1900 photo of an X- ray machine as well as the latest research into filmless x- ray systems, this tour of the history of scientific instruments in multiple disciplines provides context and a bibliography for each entry. Newer conceptions of "instrument" include organisms widely used in research: e.g. the mouse, drosophila, and E. coli. Bandw photographs and diagrams showcase more traditional instruments from The Science Museum, London, and the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
