Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Israel Kirzner's outstanding book on price theory is back in print. It is been very difficult to obtain it for decades, even though it is surely the best textbook on Austrian price theory ever written. The prose is crystal clear and the organization exceptional. He takes the reader through the foundations of individual action, exchange, utility, demand and supply, production, and the market process itself. Had it been in print, it would have schooled generations in Austrian price theory, and it is surely useful in the classroom today, or for general reading. Not a collection of essays, it is an integrated presentation from top to bottom, written early in Kirzner's post-doctoral career.

Book Uncovering the General Economic Logic of Price Systems

Download or read book Uncovering the General Economic Logic of Price Systems written by John P. Barrados Ph.D. and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-28 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book establishes that there is a fault or inconsistency in the orthodox classical price system. This suppresses in the system the general economic logic that should characterize all price systems. This mars the orthodox classical system in various ways, for example, by bringing an incorrect form of Say's Law into the system that restricts it to long-run states. However, the inconsistency in the orthodox classical system is resolved in the book through a revised classical system. This gives the latter system a more general character than the orthodox form of the system. This is reflected, for example, in the revised classical system being rid of the incorrect form of Say's Law that restricts the orthodox classical system to long-run states.

Book Cost of Production and the Theory of the Rate of Profit

Download or read book Cost of Production and the Theory of the Rate of Profit written by John Eatwell and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adam Smith set economists and examination question: what determines long-run normal prices and the associated rate of profit. The fundamental difficulty is that the long-run equilibrium prices of reproducible means of production (Smith's “natural” prices) must satisfy two conditions at the same time: they must clear the markets for the endowment of reproducible goods, and must be equal to the long-run prices associated with the reproduction of those goods. In the determination of normal prices in an economy with reproducible means of production, the term “cost of production” has no meaning since prices of reproducible goods enter their own “cost”. The concept of cost production is valid in an economy in which goods are defined by their physical essence and their location in time, when by definition no good is reproduced and “discounted” prices are determined without reference to a rate of interest (i.e. rate of profit). But the interpretation of such prices as “embodying” a general rate of interest lacks any coherent foundation, as was made clear by Malinvaud (1965, p.233):..... the relationships studied here are meaningful only under precise normalisation rules for undiscounted prices. Only discounted prices are determined by competitive equilibrium, or by the price system associated with an optimum. In the absence of a normalisation rule the interest rates are not defined and can assume any value greater than -1.There is no neo-classical theory of the rate of profit.

Book Markets in the Name of Socialism

Download or read book Markets in the Name of Socialism written by Johanna Bockman and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2011-07-26 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The worldwide spread of neoliberalism has transformed economies, polities, and societies everywhere. In conventional accounts, American and Western European economists, such as Milton Friedman and Friedrich von Hayek, sold neoliberalism by popularizing their free-market ideas and radical criticisms of the state. Rather than focusing on the agency of a few prominent, conservative economists, Markets in the Name of Socialism reveals a dialogue among many economists on both sides of the Iron Curtain about democracy, socialism, and markets. These discussions led to the transformations of 1989 and, unintentionally, the rise of neoliberalism. This book takes a truly transnational look at economists' professional outlook over 100 years across the capitalist West and the socialist East. Clearly translating complicated economic ideas and neoliberal theories, it presents a significant reinterpretation of Cold War history, the fall of communism, and the rise of today's dominant economic ideology.
