Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intra-Jewish conflict in Paul's communities After taking on traditional interpretations of Romans in (The Mystery of Romans, Nanos now turns his attention to the Letter to the Galatians. A Primary voice in reclaiming Paul in his Jewish context. Nanos challenges the previously dominant views of Paul as rejecting his Jewish heritage and the Law. Where Paul's rhetoric has been interpreted to be its most anti-Jewish, Nanos instead demonstrates the implications of an intra-Jewish reading. He explores the issues of purity, insiders/outsiders; the charactor of "the gospel"; the relationship between groups of Christ-followers in Jerusalem, Antioch, and Galatia; and evil-eye accusations.

Download or read book Hawaii End of the Rainbow written by Kazuo Miyamoto and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12-20 with total page 765 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the Japanese who immigrated to Hawaii around the turn of the present century, worked as forced laborers on the sugar plantations, and afterwards remained in Hawaii to work as free men and to raise families. It is the story also of their children, born and raised in Hawaii, and who, during World War II, won fame and glory for themselves and their country on the bloody battlefields of Italy and southern Europe. But more than all of this, it is the story of the fate of the original immigrants during World War II. Rounded up by a panic-stricken American Government after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, these people were sent to the mainland to spend the war years being confined in one refugee camp after another, all while their sons were winning fame as American combat troops. And finally, it is the story of these elderly people who, at the end of the war, became free men once again and were allowed to return to their beloved Hawaii to live out their lives in peace.

Download or read book The Synoptic Gospels and the Psalms as Prophecy written by J. Samuel Subramanian and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2007-11-21 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Psalms is one of the most frequently cited books in the New Testament. The Synoptic Evangelists seem to read the Psalms not primarily as prayers but as prophecies of the future. They discovered in its language prophecies concerning the life and ministry of Jesus and attempted to show how Jesus' life was prefigured in the Psalms. Samuel Subramanian examines the topic within the broader use of the Old Testament in the New Testament, that of the prophetic reading of the Psalms in the Synoptic Gospels and in the context of Second Temple Judaism. Although others have treated individual psalm quotations as prophecy, my work is the first to examine all of the psalm quotations within the Synoptic Gospels in this light and the first to demonstrate that these excerpts were used prophetically. In some cases, these psalm quotations were used by the Synoptic Evangelists in a manner that is thought to fulfill a prophecy from or about Jesus within the gospel narratives, even though this particular use of the psalms by the Synoptic Evangelists has not been widely recognized previously. This study shows how similar exegetical techniques of looking for prophecies in the Psalms was practiced by non-Christian Jews of the period.

This book was released on 2016-02-24 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As is apparent from the title of this book, I am not writing about all the miracles in the Gospel of Matthew but only about the mighty acts which Jesus is said to perform (and which his followers perform in his name). I do not take up the miracles which happen to him (the virgin birth, the resurrection, the epiphanies of the baptism and transfiguration, and the like). --From the Introduction

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marianne Thompson surveys the portrayal of God as Father in the Old Testament and Second Temple Judaism, in the ministry of Jesus, in the Synoptic Gospels, and in the writings of Paul and John. Thompson argues that, rather than rooting the image of God in a debate about gender, "Father" terminology really identifies an ancestor who grants inheritance.

Download or read book A Christology of Solidarity written by William L. Kynes and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 1991 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of Matthew begins by depicting Jesus as the focus of the history of Israel and ends with Jesus commissioning the creation of a new community composed of people from all nations (the church). The center of the gospel is Jesus the Messiah, but he stands between two communities, Israel and the church. In this study, the author proposes to examine the christology of Matthew's gospel by exploring the theme of Jesus' solidarity with his people, focusing on Jesus' representative role in his relationship both with Israel and the Church. Contents: Introduction: Jesus and His People in Matthew's Gospel; Jesus, The True Son of God; Sonship and the New Community; The Miracle-working Authority of the Son; Like Master, Like Disciple; The Yoke of the Son; The Messiah and His People in Suffering and Glory; The Authority of Christ in His Church; The Christological Transfer of the Kingdom; The Son of Man and His Lowly Brethren; The Faithful Son and the Forgiveness of Sins; Disciples of the Risen Lord; Conclusion: Jesus as the Representative of His People; Bibliography.
