This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Circular of the Bureau of Standards, Vol. 8: Testing of Thermometers; Issued June 30, 1911 It is well known that the scale of temperature defined by a mercurial thermometer is dependent upon the composition and treatment of the glass. Even samples of glass from the same pot show differences in this respect. Mercury in glass thermometers, although capable of very great precision when properly constructed and used with due precautions, are therefore not suited to establish the standard scale of temperature. International Hydrogen Scale - The temperature scale which has come into almost world-wide use in the interval 3 5° to 100° C is the hydrogen scale of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, as defined by the 'following resolution of the International Committee on Weights and Measures, adopted October 15, 1887. Download or read book On the Temperature in Diseases written by Carl August Wunderlich and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On the Temperature in Diseases: A Manual of Medical Thermometry I may, perhaps, be allowed a few words of introduction to the following pages. For the last sixteen years my attention has been uninterruptedly directed to the course pursued by the temperature in diseases of various kinds. The thermometer has been regularly employed at least twice daily, and in febrile patients from four to eight times a day, and even oftener, in special circumstances, for all the patients in my wards. I have also experienced the applica bility of this method of investigation in very numerous cases in private practice. In this way I have gradually got together a mate rial which comprises many thousand complete cases of thermometric observations of disease, and millions of separate readings of the temperature. The more my observations were multiplied the more firmly rooted did my conviction become of the unparalleled value of this method of investigation, as giving an accurate and reliable insight into the condition of the sick. Not a few of the results obtained have already been published, partly by myself and partly by my assistants and the students who attended my clinique.
