Book excerpt: Entrepreneurs play an important role in the economic development of emerging economies such as India, and Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP) at various life stages boost it. EDP's impact at the +2 level is strategic and timely as it adds self-sufficiency to the young who are either forced to or willingly take up entrepreneurship after their +2 education. Creating a new venture and the sea of uncertainties and risks involved in entrepreneurship can be daunting and frustrating, testing the tenacity of the +2 students' soft skills, especially soft communication skills. Soft communication skill helps in information gathering, customer handling, teamwork, communicating with stakeholders, establishing relationships, and in tackling the challenges involved in venture creation. This paper thus argues for the teaching of soft communication skills in entrepreneurship development courses at the + 2 level, and highlights the need for and benefits of taking such initiatives, whilst suggesting certain broad guidelines in this regard.

Book Excellence in Communication Skills

Download or read book Excellence in Communication Skills written by Dr. Shashi Prabha Nagendra and published by Shashi Prabha Nagendra. This book was released on 2021-04-26 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years of observation and reflection in a classroom session, allow us to continuously reinvent the wheel of teaching and learning pedagogy. This continuous introspection and reinvention orients into best practices. In the same stream, this articulation, is an outcome of immaculate observation meant for learners at the tertiary level. The scholarly approach adopted in this book aligns with the requirement of acquiring a language, especially the speaking skills. The need for effective communication skills in the new millennium has surged and has become all the more important. English continues to be the dominant language in Science, Technology, Engineering and Management (STEM). It is therefore obvious that the growth curve of a person hinges on effective communication skills. To perform exceptionally well in interviews and group discussions, it is imperative for students to manage their communication skills effectively. This book attempts to prepare the students to excel in it as well as group discussions and give an impressive interview which will ultimately increase their credibility. Indians have always had the upper-hand in international scenario due to their exceptional English language and communication skills. However, as we see from the last decade many non-English speaking countries especially China, Korea and others are honing and improving their English skills and trying to shake India’s numero uno position. Hence it has become necessary that we Indians continuously upgrade and improve our communication skills to maintain its position at global level. Therefore, this book is packed with practical tactics and tasks within a framework of ten chapters. The live situations used for discussions, give an insight into the corporate work culture and this makes the learner familiar with business vocabulary. A brief explanation of concepts followed by activities, gently transcends the conversation skills from a preliminary level of self-introduction to an advanced level of board room presentation. The additional topics on Ethical Dilemma, and Group Discussions are meant to stimulate the thought process of the students and engage them in an interactive conversation. This handbook has also been drafted to serve English teachers who can evaluate students with the help of the given rubrics and make the sessions vibrant and simplify the teaching learning process. Speaking and interacting with a partner will encourage a slow learner to overcome the hesitancy and speak freely. Imagine a learner-centered classroom bustling with students engaged in speaking activities, using gestures, facial expressions, body language and intonations without the fear of being assessed. This book guarantees to evoke enthusiasm and the students will begin to communicate with a Panache.

Over this period the inflow of foreign capital into the region, the level of trade amongst these countries, and trade with other parts of the world has increased substantially. The ensuing economic growth has led to some significant changes in labour markets and the demand for skilled employees and their deployment within organisations. Focusing on a number of developed and developing Asian economies, this book explores the dynamics of workforce development and skill formation, and considers questions of both skills shortages and skills gaps. The book assesses the current state of training in the selected Asian economies, the weaknesses and strengths of their various training approaches, and what the present state of training means for the future economic development of these economies.

Book Education to Build Back Better

Download or read book Education to Build Back Better written by Fernando M. Reimers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book examines the implications of the COVID-19 Pandemic for education systems and argues that major education reforms will be necessary, particularly in the Global South, to address the learning loss caused by the pandemic. To inform those reforms, knowledge about the implementation reforms in the Global South is necessary, and such knowledge is seriously lacking as the existing literature on the implementation of educational change focused principally in reforms in countries in the Global North. This book contributes to address this gap by examining five major education reforms in India, Egypt, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Senegal, and by presenting two novel approaches to climate change education using a bottoms up strategy of reform. The chapters examine the implementation process drawing on a theoretical model of educational change by Reimers (published in Educating Students to Improve the World by Springer in 2020). The book concludes discussing the implementation of such reforms as an evolutionary and learning process, characterized by four dimensions: the goals of the reform, the drivers of the reform, the reform strategy, and the mindsets about educational change which undergird the implementation strategy.

Book Informal Sector Innovations

Download or read book Informal Sector Innovations written by Mammo Muchie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well documented that the space of informal economic activity is rising across the globe. This rise has been particularly significant in the least developed and developing countries, especially after the onset of neo-liberal policies and withdrawal of welfare state. There has also been a shift in academic thinking on informal sector, with attempts being made to understand the contribution of informal sector in generating employment and economic growth rather than focusing solely on exploitative labour conditions in these economic activities. Indeed, with the retreat of welfare state and the introduction of contract labour in the formal sector, many issues related to occupational hazards and improper labour conditions do not remain unique to the informal sectors of the economy, particularly in less developed countries. This volume addresses a specific concern: the issue of knowledge generation and innovative activities, which lies at the core of sustained competitive advantage of these activities. The chapters in this book were originally published in the African Journal of Science Technology Innovation and Development.
