Book The Synthesis of Sterically Demanding Ligands and Examples of Their Copper Complexes

Download or read book The Synthesis of Sterically Demanding Ligands and Examples of Their Copper Complexes written by Ryan D. Rieth and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conditions for promoting the Pd-catalyzed arylation of (N-pyrrolyl)zinc derivatives have been established using aryl bromides, chlorides, and iodides as substrates. In most cases, 0.5 mol% Pd(OAc)2 can achieve the desired transformation in roughly 24 hours, with the more sterically demanding substrates requiring altered conditions. Typical isolated yields are in excess of 70%. Moreover, methyl- and aryl-substituted pyrrolyl anions have been shown to display similar chemistry using 5.0 mol% Pd(OAc)2. Though they require longer reaction times, the isolated yields rival those of the unsubstituted analogs. Two new copper(I) N-heterocyclic carbene complexes containing the 2,4,6,2",4",6"--Hexaisopropyl-1,1':3',1"-terphenyl moiety have been synthesized and isolated. The LCuCl complex (92% isolated yield) was made via a one-pot synthesis from the corresponding imidazolinium tetrafluoroborate salt, NaH, and CuCl (L = [1,3-bis-(2,4,6,2",4",6"-hexaisopropyl- [1,1':3',1"]terphenyl-5'-yl)-4,5-dihydroimidazol-2-ylidene]). The LCuOAc complex (71% isolated yield) was made the same way using CuOAc in place of CuCl.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Redox-Active Ligands Authoritative resource showcasing a new family of ligands that can lead to better catalysts and promising applications in organic synthesis Redox-Active Ligands gives a comprehensive overview of the unique features of redox-active ligands, describing their structure and synthesis, the characterization of their coordination complexes, and important applications in homogeneous catalysis. The work reflects the diversity of the subject by including ongoing research spanning coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, bioinspired catalysis, proton and electron transfer, and the ability of such ligands to interact with early and late transition metals, lanthanides, and actinides. The book is divided into three parts, devoted to introduction and concepts, applications, and case studies. After the introduction on key concepts related to the field, and the different types of ligands and complexes in which ligand-centered redox activity is commonly observed, mechanistic and computational studies are described. The second part focuses on catalytic applications of redox-active complexes, including examples from radical transformations, coordination chemistry and organic synthesis. Finally, case studies of redox-active guanidine ligands, and of lanthanides and actinides are presented. Other specific sample topics covered include: An overview of the electronic features of redox-active ligands, covering their historical perspective and biological background The versatility and mode of action of redox-active ligands, which sets them apart from more classic and tunable ligands such as phosphines or N-heterocyclic carbenes Preparation and catalytic applications of complexes of stable N-aryl radicals Metal complexes with redox-active ligands in H+/e- transfer transformations By providing up-to-date information on important concepts and applications, Redox-Active Ligands is an essential reading for researchers working in organometallic and coordination chemistry, catalysis, organic synthesis, and (bio)inorganic chemistry, as well as newcomers to the field.

Book Synthesis and Original Reactivity of Copper and Gold Complexes

Download or read book Synthesis and Original Reactivity of Copper and Gold Complexes written by Maximilian Joost and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-13 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis addresses the coordination chemistry and reactivity of copper and gold complexes with a focus on the elucidation of (i) the metal-mediated activation of σ-bonds and (ii) the migratory insertion reaction. Both processes are of considerable importance in organometallic chemistry, but remain elusive for Cu and Au complexes. In this work, the author contributes significant advances: The first σ-SiH complexes of copper are experimentally and computationally characterized, yielding valuable insights into σ-bond activation processes for copper. Evidence for a highly unusual migratory syn insertion of unsaturated organic molecules into the gold-silicon bond of silylgold (I) complexes is provided and the corresponding mechanism identified. The intermolecular oxidative addition of σ-SiSi, σ-CC and σ-CX (X=halogen) bonds with molecular gold (I) complexes is studied in detail, effectively demonstrating that this reaction, usually considered to be impossible for gold, is actually highly favored, provided an adequate ligand is employed. The use of small-bite angle bis (phosphine) gold (I) complexes allows for the first time the oxidative addition of σ-CC and σ-CX bonds for gold (I). These results shed light on an unexpected reactivity pattern of gold complexes and may point the way to 2-electron redox transformations mediated by this metal, opening up new perspectives in gold catalysis.

Book Synthesis and Reactivity of Copper i Amidinate Complexes

Download or read book Synthesis and Reactivity of Copper i Amidinate Complexes written by Andrew C. Lane and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Group 11 transition metals are used daily throughout our bodies and as additives in many common products. One biological function of copper, a group 11 metal, is its use in the Cu A site of cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme found in the last step of cellular respiration. To model this active site, three formamidinate ligands have been examined: 2,6-dimethylphenyl, 2,6- diisopropylphenyl, and 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl. The synthesis and structural characterization of these dinuclear Cu(I) complexes is described as well as their redox chemistry with I 2 to afford complexes of mixed-valence which is the normal resting state of the Cu A site. Using EPR spectroscopy and DFT calculations on the iodine oxidized products, different electronic structures base d on the formamidinate was found. Additionally, insertion of CS 2 into the copper-nitrogen bonds of the copper(I) formamidinate complexes produces tetra- and hexanuclear clusters based on the steric properties of the ligand

Book Synthesis Characterization and Applications of Complexes Involving Redox active Ligands

Download or read book Synthesis Characterization and Applications of Complexes Involving Redox active Ligands written by Romain Kunert and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We developed a new type of redox-active ligand, involving two N-heterocyclic carbenes and two phenolate units. The strong electron donating properties of the NHC moieties were utilized to stabilize complexes in high oxidation states while the phenolate groups were used as redox-active units. Group 10 metal complexes were developed. Their oxidation chemistry showed the formation of phenoxyl radicals, reaching up to two-electron oxidized, bis(phenoxyl) complexes. We also report the first Ni(III) complex with NHC donors. The ligand was also used to develop metal complexes with nitride ligands. The nitridomanganese complex proved to be unstable and degraded in successive intramolecular nitride-NHC reductive couplings. The degradation afforded a peculiar organic salt with three fused rings forming a central triazone pattern. Conversely, the chromium nitride complex could be isolated and thoroughly characterized. The one-electron oxidized product was generated reversibly at low temperature but readily evolved at room temperature. In a parallel work, we also developed new types of sterically hindered salen ligands to form distorted copper salen complexes as molecular models of galactose oxidase. The copper salen catalysts showed to be effective for the aerobic oxidation of non-activated alcohol substrates.
