So, the purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between job resources (supervisory coaching, autonomy and task variety) and work-family enrichment, as well as the mediator role of opportunity for professional development on this relationship. The variables of job resources are distinctly examined the relationship with work-family enrichment as well as the role of opportunity for professional development on the relationship. A survey with 121 respondents conducted among nurses with U29 grade in public hospital at Bintulu, Sarawak and all the responses were analyzed using SPSS version 19. The results indicate that supervisory coaching, task variety and opportunity for professional development is positively significant related to work-family enrichment. However, autonomy in the context nurses is not significantly related to work-family enrichment. The relationship between supervisory coaching and task variety with work-family enrichment are significantly mediated by opportunity for professional development. Thus, organizations are encouraged to improve opportunities for professional development which can improve individual quality work, life and job performance. Moreover, more autonomy should be given to workers so that they can enhance the efficiency in the workplace.

Book Work family Balance

  • Pages : 630 pages

Download or read book Work family Balance written by Wan Edura Wan Rashid and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, the issues relating to work/family balance have been the subject of various investigations. This focus is indeed warranted given the fact that work and family can result in conflict (work/family conflict) and enhancement (work/family enrichment). Critically however, the extant literature suggests that work/family conflict and work/family enrichment to be related yet in distinct constructs. Employing a mixed methodology, the present study aims to develop a comprehensive framework to model the relationships between work/family conflict and work/family enrichment in achieving work/family balance. In the first phase of the study, a cross-sectional survey design is employed and responses from 689 nurses from public hospitals in Malaysia were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test the relationship between two predictors (social support and self-esteem) to work/family conflict and work/family enrichment and their impact of overall satisfactions and work/family balance. The findings reveal that the work/family conflict is negatively related to work/family enrichment. In fact, it is found that social support and self-esteem are negatively related to work/family conflict and work/family conflict is negatively linked with overall satisfaction. Meanwhile, social-support and self-esteem are positively related to work/family enrichment and work/family enrichment has a significant positive relationship with overall satisfaction. With regards to direct relationships, social-support and self-esteem are positively related to overall satisfaction. The findings also indicates that work/family conflict serves as mediator between social-support and overall satisfaction. Work/family enrichment on the other hand only partially mediates the relationship between self-esteem and overall satisfaction. Contrary to expectations, overall satisfaction is significantly negatively related to work/family balance. The findings of the quantitative study was substantiated and supported by the findings of the second phase of the study in which 12 nurses were interviewed. In conclusion, the study contributes to the present knowledge of work/family balance by providing simultaneous relationships that integrate the causes and the effects of work/family conflict and work/family enrichment in a single framework.

Book Work Family Enrichment Training

Download or read book Work Family Enrichment Training written by Ravit Heskiau and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this work was to examine intentional resource transfer across work and family roles. This was accomplished by devising and evaluating a work-family enrichment training program designed to enhance the transfer of resources acquired in the work role to improve outcomes in the family role. The first phase of this work established the need for enrichment training by drawing on boundary theories (Ashforth, Kreiner, Fugate, 2000). Findings from 261 employees across two experiments indicated that negative interrelations between work and family roles were more prominent than positive interrelations, that is, individuals perceived the work-family interface in more negative terms than positive terms. Individuals also reported higher conflict, but not enrichment, between their work and family roles than between within-work or within-family roles. These findings support the need for promoting work-family enrichment through training initiatives. The second phase of this work drew from social cognitive theory (Bandura, 1986) and involved the development and evaluation of a work-to-family enrichment training, based on Greenhaus and Powellâ s (2006) enrichment theory and interpersonal capitalization theory (e.g., Ilies, Keeney, Scott, 2011). The program was administered to 163 administrative employees at a large North American university using a pre-post experimental design. Consistent with the hypotheses, findings indicated that, compared to a control training, the enrichment training increased development-based enrichment from work to family (the beneficial transfer of skills, knowledge and values). Further, the effect of the training on both development-based and affect-based enrichment (the transfer of positive affect) was mediated by enrichment self-efficacy. This effect was moderated by initial social-emotional work resources, such that the training was more effective for individuals perceiving a relatively low level of such resources. Finally, as hypothesized, enrichment self-efficacy and enrichment sequentially mediated the effect of the training on two remote outcomes: work-family pride and job satisfaction. This work advances enrichment theory by demonstrating that human agency can facilitate resource transfer across roles. From a practical perspective, this study is the first to develop and test a work-family enrichment training, which can serve as a tool for individuals and organizations to increase awareness and boost performance and satisfaction.

The finding shows that there is greater extent of work-interference in family and lower degree of family interference in work. Also, the findings from the Pearson correlation indicate that, there was positive and moderate statistical significant relationship between family interference in work (FIW) and performance in work responsibilities. It was further revealed that, there was and statistical significant relationship between work interference in family (WIF) and performance of familial duties. The finding form ANOVA reveals that work interference in family well-being, socialization, home chore management, and reproduction role. Book Levels of Work family Conflict and Work family Enrichment in South African Employees a Meta analysis

Download or read book Levels of Work family Conflict and Work family Enrichment in South African Employees a Meta analysis written by Lindri Joy Du Toit and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This meta-analysis tests the levels of work-family conflict (WFC) and work-family enrichment (WFE) South African employees experience. Numerous individual quantitative research studies have been conducted on this topic, but, to date, a meta-analysis on the levels of WFC and WFE in South Africa has yet to be published. This study thus groups all results from published South African research on this topic together, to calculate mean levels of work-family conflict and enrichment, with enhanced statistical power. More specifically, mean levels of four variables, namely, work-family conflict, family-work conflict, work-family enrichment and family-work enrichment are calculated via meta-analysis. Research findings can be used to understand how South African mean levels compare to that of the Global North, and whether or not research findings from the Global North may generalize to South African contexts.
