He tried to honor their memory by his own upright life and often said that "Stand fast, stand firm, stand sure " was just as good a motto for an American as for a Scotchman. He was so honest and industrious that he was respected by all who knew him. After he had saved enough money to build a house he married pretty Hannah Simpson.
