The old Indian boundary line, cutting down across the eastern portion of Edgar County had been established by treaty between the Kickapoos and General William Henry Harris on about 1809. Land was offered for sale as early as 1816, most of it in the southeastern and eastern portions of what subsequently became Edgar County. An Indian trail, laid out as a road between Chicago and Vincennes by pioneer explorer Guerdon S. Hubbard was helpful in bringing people south through the territory, but more importantly providing a link with immigrants from Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee.
