I commend this book to the destitute and to the wicked that they may know their Creator and their lives be washed clean with Creator’s Light, and they shall be as One, as others are as One that know God, and that know and love themselves. For this love is the greatest of all and Divine Love knows those that suffer, and wishes to relieve them of their burdens, and all those that come to her shall be freed of their burdens, to live on Earth in joy, love, and abundance. This book is written from a spiritual perspective, that all who come to her will be healed. They will feel all their problems lift off; they will just disappear. Everyone will feel whole and content once more.’

Book The Short Story A Very Short Introduction

Download or read book The Short Story A Very Short Introduction written by Andrew Kahn and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-09 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What defines a modern short story is much more than a question of length. Despite the efforts of early pioneers like Edgar Allan Poe, the genre was originally synonymous with the anecdote or tale and seen more as entertainment than art. However it has become far more than that, and this Very Short Introduction considers afresh the form's ongoing innovations in plot construction, capacity for psychological insight, and ability to offer intensely concentrated perceptions. This book charts the rise of the short story from its original appearance in magazines and newspapers, largely in the United States and Great Britain. For much of the nineteenth century, tales were written for the press, and the form's history is marked by engagement with popular fiction. From the later nineteenth century, the short story earned a reputation for its skillful use of plot design and character study distinct from the novel. After the First World War it found outlets in high-brow publications, and single-author collections, as well as anthologies, were regularly published. Exploring the form's techniques and themes, Andrew Kahn considers the continuity and variation in key structures and techniques such as the beginning, the creation of voice, the ironic turn or plot twist, and how writers manage endings. Throughout he draws on examples from an international and flourishing corpus of work, with close analysis of classic and lesser-known stories by American, Canadian, Irish, Australian, Russian, and French masters such as James Baldwin, Grace Paley, Alice Munro, Elizabeth Taylor, William Trevor, Helen Garner, Chekhov, and Guy de Maupassant. Very Short Introductions: Brilliant, Sharp, Inspiring ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

He is remembered best for Beau Geste, a much-filmed book of 1924, involving the French Foreign Legion in North Africa. This was one of 33 novels and short story collections that he wrote, mostly dealing with colonial soldiering in Africa. While his fictional accounts of life in the pre-1914 Foreign Legion are highly romanticized, his details of Legion uniforms, training, equipment and barrack room layout are generally accurate, which has led to unproven suggestions that Wren himself served with the legion.

Book The Story of the Return of God and the Arrival of Goddess

Download or read book The Story of the Return of God and the Arrival of Goddess written by Stoughton K K White and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The time has come for humanity to triumph over sin. This triumph will come by one of two means: Either there will be a literal destruction of human life and a new life wave begun; on this generation of human beings will turn away from its present morality and put war and other tyrannies aside. Internationalism will replace nationalism, production will be geared to need, and extortion in the name of God will be ended. A perpetual end to war among human beings can begin among you at this time. All that is required is that you insist that your governments sign a treaty of no war with each other. Let this treaty at first be for a specified number of years — twenty-five or fifty years. Then during these years of no war, let all technology of the Earth be directed toward creating a decent standard of living for all people. Remember, peace is dead and will remain so, so long as you think in terms that set nation against nation. I know that this truth is most painful for many of you — that peace is dead and so too will life on Earth be, unless internationalism replaces nationalism and other self-isms. The matter is entirely in your hands. There is one humanity on/in Earth. The resources of the Earth are for all to share.

Mildreth Gibbon Preston's generous decision to bequest 20,000 acres of mountainous forest to the state of New Hampshire in honor of her late husband sets off a series of events that shatters the peace and threatens the prosperity of a lovely New England town. The aerial surveyor whom Mrs. Preston hires to map the pristine property mysteriously disappears, and Eaton is called in by the elderly woman to unravel what he thinks will be a quick and easy missing-persons case. Jake has second thoughts, however, when his investigation reveals the undercurrents of a sinister plot involving dirty politics, laundered payoffs, and worst of all, the deadly threat of toxic waste dumping. Then, a slick, senior executive from a company that is thought of by the public as the country's most innovative manager of toxic waste tries to put Jake on the corporate payroll, the PI realizes that the stakes are higher than he ever imagined. Ultimately, if the conspiracy goes unexposed, it will threaten not only the environmental health and well-being of Winslow and its surroundings, but much of New England. And the race is on. Jake must unravel the tangled skein of deceit and treachery before the evidence, and the witnesses, are eliminated forever.

Book Tales from Daler Cottage Unearthing the Hidden Messages within my Children s Stories

Download or read book Tales from Daler Cottage Unearthing the Hidden Messages within my Children s Stories written by Madeleine Watson and published by Madeleine Watson. This book was released on 2019-03-11 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following story is true. This book is about my children’s mysteries written between the ages of 9 and 16. The years would have been 1975 to 1982. During this time, I was completely oblivious to a terrible truth about myself. I was living in Daler Cottage, the given name of my childhood home. At the age of 19, I would start a novel called The Lessons. This novel was fuelled by a burning fantasy world that was eating me up inside. For the next thirty years, I would struggle with this novel, unaware of this truth. The story of The Lessons is covered in my other book. Prior to my novel-writing phase, I was writing these mysteries as well as painting and devising plays. I kept a diary between 1977 and 1988, during which I attained a degree in Fine Art. I would continue to write and paint for many years to come. My diaries illuminate the circumstances surrounding the writing of my children’s stories. Unknown to me, clues to this horrific truth have leaked into all my creations like oil bubbling up through the ground. At the age of 51, I finally learned the truth. This book describes the decoding process to find the true meaning behind my children’s mysteries. Due to the nature of this book, names and certain details have been altered in order to protect identities and I am writing under a pseudonym. With images throughout.

Book The Gambler Bobok A Nasty Story

Download or read book The Gambler Bobok A Nasty Story written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 1973-09-27 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stories in this volume demonstrate Dostoyevsky's genius for fusing caricature, irony and the grotesque to create a powerful dark humour. The Gambler is a breathtaking portrayal of an intense and futile obsession. Based on Dostoyevsky's own experience of financial desperation and the compulsive desire to win money, it focuses on the characters that take their places at the gaming tables of 'Roulettenburg': the outspoken, aristocratic 'Grandmamma', the mercenary Mademoiselle Blanche, the cool, mysterious Polina and Alex, the author's self-portrait; a man gripped by exhilaration and hopelessness. Bobok is a blackly comic satire in which a desolate writer becomes drawn into the conversations of the dead, and A Nasty Story is a humorous look at the disparity between a man's exaggerated ideal of himself and the sad reality.
