The late Mrs. Mary (smith) Brinker was untiring in sending recollections of early days in Pickaway County, Ohio. Mrs. W. A. Phillips, a resident of Terre Haute, for eighty-seven years, has done the same for Dennys of Vigo County, Indiana. Mr. Charles Pinkerton, of Mt. Kisco, New York, gave access to an amazing manuscript book written by his uncle, Samuel Stanhope Smith Pinkerton. Mrs. Dorothy (greve) Jarnagin, of Athens, Georgia, supplied old Bible records and wrote the biography of her mother, Mrs. Jeanette Sterling (smith) Greve. Mrs. David Hart, of Leonia, New Jersey, assisted with the index. None of our own ancestors is recorded in this book. Begun as an academic study, as the original and unrecorded docu ments were discovered. The work became of absorbing interest. We hope the reading of it will bring profit and pleasure. It is an authentic social history of colonial and post-colonial times as seen through the life of two family groups, who bear the name and blood of Denny. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bernards of Abington and Nether Winchendon a Family History, Vol. 2 of 2 The moderate and courteous tone hitherto observable in the Assembly's answers to the Governor, which breathe a Spirit of loyalty to the Crown and of regard for its representative in Massachusetts, renders the subsequent outbursts diflicult to understand. But they were undoubtedly the result of secret influence, and of inflammatory newspaper articles prompted by that influence. Few persons, even in Boston, appear to have anticipated the full extent of the evil, except the agitators and some of the followers whom they had instructed, although it was, no doubt, a time of great anxiety to the loyalists. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of a Family, Vol. 2 Perfect quiet was the doctor's prescription; he said there was excitability of brain - great nervous irritation; he administered sundry tranquillizing doses, directed that the patient should be put to bed, and took his leave. From the moment in which Madeline aroused from the state of insensibility into which she had fallen, she spoke not a word; but her eyes wandered incessantly about the room with a plaintive, wistful expression, as if seeking something which they could not find. At length the tardy opiate had its effect, and she slept; Ida watching beside her. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. All the horrid creatures that had surrounded him in the gloomy night resumed their natural forms. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Clemens Family Chronology: 1610-1912 In this volume upwards of one hundred different Clemens family lines are represented, including those whose forefathers emigrated from Ger many, Holland, England, Wales and Ireland. No complete genealogy of any one particular Clemens line has thus far been printed, and I doubt if any such work has ever been compiled in manuscript. This Chronology therefore will prove to be the basis for such genealogies of the Clemens family which may be compiled in future years by the generations still to come. Book The Two Sides of the Shield Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Two Sides of the Shield, Vol. 1 of 2 That in a youthful composition there should be a cavalier ancestry, a family much given to dying of consumption, and a young marquess cousin is, per haps, inevitable. Lord Rotherwood was Mr. Mohun's ward, and having a dull home of his own, found his chief happiness as well as all the best influences of his life, in the merry, highly-principled, though easy going life at his uncle's, whom he revered like a father, while his eager, somewhat shatter-brained nature often made him a butt to his cousins. All this may account for the tone of canwmderie with which the scattered members of the family meet again, especially around Lilias, who had, with her cleverness and enthusiasm, always been the leading member of the group. Book Selleck and Peck Genealogy Classic Reprint

Download or read book Selleck and Peck Genealogy Classic Reprint written by William Edwin Selleck and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Selleck and Peck Genealogy The primary object in gathering what follows was simply to obtain a line of direct ancestors. The labor and results reached far beyond any expectation. If any connections are interested in what has been compiled, there is some satisfaction in being able to state that in all the references nothing in the history of a Selleck has appeared that one need be ashamed of. Printing the record was not thought of, but solicitation has induced its being done. The items collected have been reached under all kinds of circumstances, and succession of dates or proper arrangement of items has not been attempted, but simply added as reached, and the following is the result. The selections made are some of the most important, but there are plenty more for any one interested if he wishes to make it complete, and the references will be an aid. The Sellecks and collaterals had much to do with the ruling power during Colonial times in F airfield County, Connecticut, and the Public Records of the Colony will show many items of interest not herein contained. The records of the Selleck family seem to show that David was the ancestor of nearly all of that name in the United States. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Shannon Genealogy: Genealogical Record and Memorials of One Branch of the Shannon Family in America While carefully aiming not to detract from the just merit of the compiler's work it has been found necessary not only to carefully verify names and dates, but to supply many omissions and make numerous cor rections. This has entailed a vast amount of correspondence; and while the additional information thus obtained has generally been presented in the form of notes (with my initials appended to distinguish them from the compiler's notes), yet occasionally it has been found necessary to rewrite the personal sketches, and even recast whole pages of the text. In no case, however, has an alteration been made which would in the slightest degree change the expressed Opinions of the compiler. For example, the Introduction is printed substantially as he wrote it in 1890, and presents his own personal views on the subject of the origin of the family name. During the three years that Mr. Hodgdon was most actively engaged upon this work he corresponded with me regularly, and two volumes of his letters now before me, covering some four hundred pages in all, attest the energy and ability with which he pursued the investigation.
