Book Measurements Specifications and Achievement of Smoothness for Pavement Construction

Download or read book Measurements Specifications and Achievement of Smoothness for Pavement Construction written by James H. Woodstrom and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1990 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to construction engineers, pavement designers, contractors, and others interested in construction of new highway pavements with smooth surfaces. Information is provided on the various devices and specifications that are being used to obtain smooth pavements. The public rates a pavement primarily on its smooth-riding characteristics and highway agencies recognize that constructing smooth pavements results in fewer problems later and lower annual maintenance costs. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the devices and specifications highway agencies use to ensure that newly constructed pavements will provide a smooth ride.

Book Guidelines for Conducting and Calibrating Road Roughness Measurements

Download or read book Guidelines for Conducting and Calibrating Road Roughness Measurements written by Michael W. Sayers and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Road roughness is gaining increasing importance as an indicator of road condition, both in terms of pavement performance, and as a major determinant of road user costs. This paper defines roughness measurement systems hierachically into four groups, ranging from profilometric methods (2 groups), through response type road roughness measuring systems (RTRRMS's), and, subjective evaluation. The International Roughness Index (IRI) is defined, and the programs for it's calculation are provided. The IRI is based on simulation of the roughness response of a car travelling at 80 km/h. The report explains how all roughness measurements can be related to this scale, also when travelling at lower speeds than 80 km/h. The IRI emerges as a scale that can be used both for calibration and for comparative purposes.

Book State of the art in Asphalt Pavement Specifications

Book excerpt: "The overall objectives of this study are to trace the development of a state-of-the-art in specifications for materials and construction methods for asphalt pavements, identify and evaluate requirements that are performance-related, and provide a framework of a system of specifications that will assure higher quality and longer life pavements"--Page 1

Book Analysis of Runway Roughness

Download or read book Analysis of Runway Roughness written by David K. Hein and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessment of current technology for collecting and analyzing longitudinal runway profiles to recommend a method for Transport Canada use. Runway longitudinal profile data for 5 runways were collected using a Digital Incremental Profiler, along with that for 4 other runways, and were analyzed using surface profile - travelling straight edge, root mean square vertical acceleration, and international roughness index methods. Each of the pavement profiles was analyzed using the runway roughness analysis program, an MS-DOS software program. A complementary field study was completed to allow correlation between the roughness values measured using the portable universal roughness device, the maysmeter, and the riding comfort index procedures and the 3 methodologies.
