Her heart beats in harmony with the whispers of the past, and her devotion to preserving the town's legacy is unwavering. Across town stands the Beechwood Library, a modern marvel of innovation, and within its walls resides Keanu, a spirited young librarian brimming with a passion for bridging the gap between tradition and progress. Fate, it seems, has orchestrated an extraordinary rendezvous for these two kindred spirits. A twist of serendipity thrusts Dorothy and Keanu together, embarking them on an unforeseen journey of collaboration. Their mission: to decipher a cryptic historical puzzle buried deep within the archives, one that promises to unearth a secret hidden for centuries. As they dive into forgotten manuscripts and trace the footsteps of those who came before, Dorothy and Keanu find themselves spellbound by a narrative that transcends time's boundaries. Book excerpt: Twelve-year-old Mattie wrestles with her crush on Gemma as they participate in their school production of Romeo and Juliet in what School Library Journal calls “a fine choice for middle school libraries in need of an accessible LGBTQ stories.” Twelve-year-old Mattie is thrilled when she learns the eighth grade play will be Romeo and Juliet. In particular, she can’t wait to share the stage with Gemma Braithwaite, who has been cast as Juliet. Gemma is brilliant, pretty—and British!—and Mattie starts to see her as more than just a friend. But Mattie has also had an on/off crush on her classmate Elijah since, well, forever. Is it possible to have a crush on both boys AND girls? If that wasn’t enough to deal with, things offstage are beginning to resemble their own Shakespearean drama: the cast is fighting, and the boy playing Romeo may not be up to the challenge of the role. And due to a last-minute emergency, Mattie is asked to step up and take over the leading role—opposite Gemma’s Juliet—just as Mattie’s secret crush starts to become not-so-secret in her group of friends. In this funny, sweet, and clever look at the complicated nature of middle school romance, Mattie learns how to become a lead player in her own life.

Book The School Librarian s Compass

Download or read book The School Librarian s Compass written by Rebecca J. Morris and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By working through these cases and the accompanying learning exercises, both pre-service and practicing school librarians will strengthen their readiness, expand their perspectives, and build confidence for solving problems and making informed, thoughtful decisions in their school libraries. In their preparation for school librarianship, library students learn foundational ideals and observe best practices that center and guide their work. However, discussions of aspirational versions of school librarianship often leave out sufficient practice in managing the many challenges and decisions school librarians face on the job. In this book, veteran educator Rebecca J. Morris uses stories of day-to-day librarianship to empower school librarians as they navigate and manage the complex interactions, decisions, and opportunities of their work. The book's alignment with the AASL/CAEP standards makes it helpful to school library educators planning curriculum, syllabi, and course activities. Perfect for reading or study groups, graduate classes, and professional development, these stories invite reflection and lively conversation.

Book LGBTQIA Inclusive Children s Librarianship

Download or read book LGBTQIA Inclusive Children s Librarianship written by Lucy Santos Green and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2022-05-16 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book breaks new ground, offering school and public librarians serving children in grades K–8 a roadmap for implementing and upholding queer-inclusive programs, policies, and services. School and public librarians are serving ever greater numbers of LGBTQIA+ children and families. Transgender children may begin to express a strong sense of gender identity as early as 2–3 years of age. Children are also identifying as gay much sooner than earlier generations-often between the ages of 7 and 12. Additionally, more children than ever before are living with LGBTQIA+ caregivers. In seeking to make our programs and services inclusive and equitable for these growing populations, librarians may court controversy and face community backlash from patrons who feel queer-inclusive content is inappropriate for young children. This book codifies a set of best practices for librarians as they rise to this challenge, defining queer-inclusive programs, identifying potential barriers to implementation, and offering strategies and resources to overcome them. Book Polymer Libraries

Download or read book Polymer Libraries written by Michael A. R. Meier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-07-20 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is truly an exciting time to be in the ?eld of polymer science. Advances in polymerization methods are providing polymer scientists with the ability to specify and control polymer composition, structure, architecture, and molecular weight to a degree that was not possible just a decade ago. This, in turn, is resulting in many novel application possibilities of polymers ranging from drug delivery systems and nanolithographyto stimuli-responsivematerials and many others. In addition, many of the application areas of polymers – such as coatings, adhesives, thermoplastics, composites, and personal care – are also taking advantage of the ability to design polymersduringtheir developmentefforts. Not to forget, manyof these applications of polymers involve mixing polymers with solvents, catalysts, colorants, and many other ingredients to prepare a formulated product. However, the tuning of polymer composition and structure as well as polymer formulations to optimize the ?nal performance properties can be challenging, - pecially since in many cases several interacting variables need to be optimized simultaneously. This is where the methodologies and techniques of combinatorial and high-throughput experimentation to synthesize and characterize polymer - braries can be an invaluable approach. Simply put, a polymer library is a collection of multiple polymer samples having a systematic variation in one or more variables related to composition, structure, or process. Various methods and strategies have been explored to ef?ciently prepare a large number of polymer samples and also to screen these samples for key properties of interest.
