Book excerpt: In the aftermath of having survived an encounter with pedophile serial killer Uriah Beek almost three years earlier, two still healing couples reconnect at Christmas time in the small Oregon coast city of Cutter Point. Kevin Kearnes, the city's former police chief, now a special agent with Homeland Security, is returning to Cutter Point with Britt McGraw and his two young sons to marry Britt on the same beach where he first kissed her. Thud Compton, Kearnes' old sergeant, and now Cutter Point's new chief, has invited them to stay at the Compton home. However, the Kearnes' are not the only ones traveling to Cutter Point for the holidays. Some very bad men are coming to town and instead of bearing gifts, they are planning on taking one for themselves; an old military sword from WWII rusting away inside its display case in the local library which, after 9/11, is now worth a million dollars on the world black market for war artifacts. Russian mobsters "Little Nikki" Kravchenko and Vlasi Voronov will happily accept half that much in payment from Phillip Peeters, the man who has hired them to steal it. But to college student Darius Ono, who has already failed at one attempt to take it, the sword is priceless and reclaiming it will restore honor to the name of his dead great uncle "The Emperor's Sparrow." Although they don't yet know it, Kevin Kearnes and Thud Compton are about to face their greatest threat ever when they are forced to pursue the murderous men who have stolen The Sparrow's Blade.

Book Spiritual Interpretations

Download or read book Spiritual Interpretations written by Roosevelt Jackson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-11-26 with total page 701 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reason why readers would be so interested is because of the spirituality: Learning the spiritual side of life, how good God really is, and how to include the word of God into the equation; in every area of their lives, whether it be financially, physically, mentally, by faith, in which we walk by: Faith is simply believing that God is our source, and not the world economy. To understand that God has given us very things that we need to accommodate us in this life. Most things, we can do for ourselves because of the abilities that God has bestowed upon us; but the Heavenly things, we have to declare and decree from Heaven, such as when we pray; whatsoever we pray for, believe that we already received them, and then you will have them. You have to trust God first, before you receive whatever it is that you ask for in Jesus name. It is always have to be in Jesus name, if not in Jesus name, then you might have a delay, you see, that's how the gospel works. Jesus died for us to have the things that we are so deserving of, all we have to do is believe it, declare it, and decree it, and it shall be given to us. But, if you dont spend time in the word of God, then you have no clue what to expect, you have no knowledge of all the promises that God said yes to; there is over seventy seven hundred promises in the Bible that God said yes to, we just have to believe, and say yes to them in order to receive the promises of God; you see, it's simple when you know the word of God for your lives. I've study the word of God for the last ten years of my life. So I am a witness to the fact. And here's another fact, I use to wake up every morning with back pain, I would stumble to my feet, but, once I'd reach for my bible and started to read it, before I could get through the first paragraph the pain had vanished. Once I'd learn how to pray and study the bible, I haven't taken a pain pill since February of 2010. I would like for everyone to experience the goodness of God and the example of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. If only I knew back then, what I know now, I would have been committed myself to Jesus. I just pray that everyone will learn to give their lives over to Jesus. So that's how much I think that my book will be an inspiration to others. So yes, I am completely satisfied with my work, so I approve it in every way for publishing. I thanked God, for giving me the strength to endure the last two and a half years to complete this book; it has been a blessing and honor to credit this book to God Almighty. My way of showing appreciation for all that God has done for me in my life. So there you have it. Thanks for the word, Roosevelt Jackson. Bless you all. In Jesus name. Until next time.

Download or read book Do Sparrows Like Bach written by New Scientist and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-11-15 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the same editors that brought you Why Don’t Penguins’ Feet Freeze? and Does Anything Eat Wasps?, an exploration of the weird and wonderful margins of science—the latest volume in the brilliant New Scientist series. Science tells us grand things about the universe: how fast light travels, and why stones fall to earth. But scientific endeavor goes far beyond these obvious foundations. There are some fields we don`t often hear about because they are so specialized, or turn out to be dead ends. Yet researchers have given hallucinogenic drugs to blind people (seriously), tried to weigh the soul as it departs the body, and planned to blast a new Panama Canal with an atomic weapon. Real scientific breakthroughs sometimes come out of the most surprising and unpromising work. Do Sparrows Like Bach? is about the margins of science—investigating everything from what it`s like to die to exploding pants and recycled urine. Who on earth would burn off their beard with a laser? Produce a fireproof umbrella that doubles as a parachute? Replace sniffer dogs with gerbils? Could a chemical component of flatulence be the next Viagra? Do sparrows (and even fish for that matter) prefer Bach to Led Zeppelin? The editors at New Scientist magazine have the answers to all these questions and more in this celebration of outrageous, outlandish, and brilliant discoveries on the fringes of scientific research. This extraordinary collection is an astonishing reminder that even at its most misguided, science is intensely creative, often hilarious, and can spark the imagination like nothing else.

Book excerpt: "If sparrows are but a metaphor, every writer faces the challenge of reality, which is to say, how one catches this sparrow." So writes Bei Dao in his preface to Loud Sparrows, a spirited collection of ninety-one short-shorts, an exciting new form of extreme short-storytelling that has swept the creative consciousness of mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The artistic and aesthetic freedoms of short-shorts enable writers to capture the tone, texture, and chaos of their rapidly changing societies in infinitely inventive ways. Written by Chinese authors over the past three decades, the stories in this anthology are culled from newspapers, magazines, literary journals, and personal collections, and their subjects range from humanist ideals and traditional virtues to the material benefits of a commercialized society.

  • ISBN : 1482814099
  • Pages : 143 pages

Download or read book Of Hawks and Sparrows written by Satabdi Saha and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first section of Of Hawks and Sparrows comprises short stories, most of which are born out of the writers own experience. The characters are everyday familiars, but their reactions to situations take us by surprise. They are a motley crowdexciting, intimidating, pathetic, and shocking. Stories like What Remains, Kinship, The Mansion, etc., are a few examples. Thrill and shock will make you read on. The second segment consists of poems that are multidimensional. Headline-making events and cataclysmic incidents are treated deftly by the writer. Poems like Afghan Soliloquies, Schooling High in Beslan, and The Other Side of Darkness are some of them. The poems cover a wide range of topics like female infanticide, pollution, spiritualism, and of course, romance. The author is subtly expressive of her sympathy and concern for the suffering millions.
