  • ISBN : 9781920995164
  • Pages : 64 pages

Download or read book South Coast Track written by John Chapman and published by . This book was released on 2017-10 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contains comprehensive track notes for walking the South Coast Track in Tasmania. The guide has 9 -1:50,000 colour topographic maps of the entire track, 50 colour photographs plus gradient profiles of the track. This is an all colour production with full track notes for both directions along the trail. The colour topographic maps and notes have been colour coded for each direction to reduce confusion about which notes are currently being followed. This is one of the world's great wilderness walks and takes 6 to 8 days to walk. Most plan for 7 days and it is suggested to carry one spare days food in case of river floods causing delays. For those wishing to explore further than the South Coast Track, then the larger guide book South West Tasmania which also includes the South Coast Track should be considered. This book is actually a subset of that larger guide and we would expect walkers to use one or the other but not both. Note that the maps in South West Tasmania for the South Coast Track are a smaller scale (1:100,000) and there is less detail in the track notes as that book is designed for more experienced walkers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take a stroll through the garden of a self-confessed hortimaniac. Gardening is Marie Harrison's avocation, passion . . . some might say, obsession. In her personal, witty style (she refers to her husband as Amiable Spouse, or A.S. for short), Marie divulges her own tried-and-true ways of gardening along the coasts of the southeast United States. Marie covers perennials, flowers grown from bulbs, herbs, shrubs and small trees, vines, edible flowers, and herbs for flower borders. A section of full-color photos captures these beautiful plants and flowers in all their vibrant glory. Charming pen-and-ink illustrations are sprinkled throughout the text. Marie discusses the edible and medicinal properties of various plants (there's even a quick tip or two!), as well as coastal considerations such as salt tolerance; environmental issues such as pesticide use, beneficial insects, and exotic invasives; and gardening for birds and butterflies. She also offers her musings on the seasons in Florida and how she spends her time in the garden during each phase of the year. Whether you're seasoned gardener like Marie or a tentative beginner just starting out with a windowsill herb garden, this delightful book will make you appreciate the dirt under your fingernails.

Book London Brighton and South Coast Railway

Download or read book London Brighton and South Coast Railway written by John Minnis and published by Tempus Publishing Limited. This book was released on 2007-04 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The London, Brighton & South Coast Railway evokes many different images, for it was essentially a railway of contrasts - for some it represented holidays to the South Coast resorts of Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings and Worthing that were all in their heyday, and for others it was a commuter line, taking them on their daily journey through the sprawling South London suburbs to work in the City. This album seeks to capture these contracts from the urban landscape of South London to the heart of rural Sussex, from the rolling Downland to the wooded valleys of the Weald and from high society on a visit o the races at Epsom to day-trippers escaping the dirt and grime of London for the sea air of Brighton. As well as the variety of landscapes and passengers which gave the line its character, this book also looks at the development of the LB&CSR's locomotives over some sixty years. Because of their stylish appearance and the fact that many of them wee named after districts served by the railway, they had a particular appeal to the public that was not limited to the railwayists of the day. Trains, too, varied greatly - from the sublime in the shape of the magnificent 'Southern Belle, to the rather more prosaic suburban services.

  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2015-05-07

  • Pages : 503 pages

Download or read book Channel Shore written by Tom Fort and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-05-07 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The English Channel is the busiest waterway in the world. Ferries steam back and forth, trains thunder through the tunnel. The narrow sea has been crucial to our development and prosperity. It helps define our notion of Englishness, as an island people, a nation of seafarers. It is also our nearest, dearest playground where people have sought sun, sin and bracing breezes. Tom Fort takes us on a fascinating, discursive journey from east to west, to find out what this stretch of water means to us and what is so special about the English seaside, that edge between land and seawater. He dips his toe into Sandgate's waters, takes the air in Hastings and Bexhill, chews whelks in Brighton, builds a sandcastle in Sandbanks, sunbathes in sunny Sidmouth, catches prawns off the slipway at Salcombe and hunts a shark off Looe. Stories of smugglers and shipwreck robbers, of beachcombers and samphire gatherers, gold diggers and fossil hunters abound.
