Book excerpt: Named a Most Anticipated book by Newsweek * USA Today * CNN * Parade * Buzzfeed * Medium * GoodReads * PopSugar * Frolic Media * Betches * The Nerd Daily * SheReads and more "Smart and searingly passionate...an illuminating snapshot of nature, betrayal, and sacrifices set in the evocative New Hampshire wilderness."--Kim Michele Richardson, bestselling author of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek A startling and timely debut, Julie Carrick Dalton's Waiting for the Night Song is a moving, brilliant novel about friendships forged in childhood magic and ruptured by the high price of secrets that leave you forever changed. Cadie Kessler has spent decades trying to cover up one truth. One moment. But deep down, didn’t she always know her secret would surface? An urgent message from her long-estranged best friend Daniela Garcia brings Cadie, now a forestry researcher, back to her childhood home. There, Cadie and Daniela are forced to face a dark secret that ended both their idyllic childhood bond and the magical summer that takes up more space in Cadie’s memory then all her other years combined. Now grown up, bound by long-held oaths, and faced with truths she does not wish to see, Cadie must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to protect the people and the forest she loves, as drought, foreclosures, and wildfire spark tensions between displaced migrant farm workers and locals. Waiting for the Night Song is a love song to the natural beauty around us, a call to fight for what we believe in, and a reminder that the truth will always rise. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high fantasy following a young woman's defiance of her culture as she undertakes a dangerous quest to restore her world's lost magic in Ilana C. Myer's Last Song Before Night. Her name was Kimbralin Amaristoth: sister to a cruel brother, daughter of a hateful family. But that name she has forsworn, and now she is simply Lin, a musician and lyricist of uncommon ability in a land where women are forbidden to answer such callings-a fugitive who must conceal her identity or risk imprisonment and even death. On the eve of a great festival, Lin learns that an ancient scourge has returned to the land of Eivar, a pandemic both deadly and unnatural. Its resurgence brings with it the memory of an apocalypse that transformed half a continent. Long ago, magic was everywhere, rising from artistic expression-from song, from verse, from stories. But in Eivar, where poets once wove enchantments from their words and harps, the power was lost. Forbidden experiments in blood divination unleashed the plague that is remembered as the Red Death, killing thousands before it was stopped, and Eivar's connection to the Otherworld from which all enchantment flowed, broken. The Red Death's return can mean only one thing: someone is spilling innocent blood in order to master dark magic. Now poets who thought only to gain fame for their songs face a challenge much greater: galvanized by Valanir Ocune, greatest Seer of the age, Lin and several others set out to reclaim their legacy and reopen the way to the Otherworld-a quest that will test their deepest desires, imperil their lives, and decide the future. Download or read book The Song in the Night written by Bob MacDonald and published by Energion Publications. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did you know that there is a musical score embedded in the Hebrew Bible? The Song in the Night presents this astonishing fact. Experts have argued over what the music is for over 1000 years. Now you can examine the key to the music and imagine how the whole song might sound. You can see clearly how the accents in the text translate into music and marvel how our ancestors designed this elegant insight to the tone of voice that is still there in the Bible. How valuable it is to hear the Word of the Most High with its tone of voice, and realize that it is not the same voice that we have imagined. It is, of course, a voice of kindness, a voice of truth, a voice of love, and a voice of grief, calling all creation into everlasting praise.

Book excerpt: Life is made of important markers whether it is starting school, getting married, having children, starting a new job, or retirement. Then there are other markers that are not as exciting but are painful in many cases. Diagnosis of a serious illness, starting therapies, and losing a life partner are all markers that make up the big journey. Each stage in life can be exciting as well as challenging. Many heroes in history have written songs or poetry while experiencing pain and sorrow. If you can sing songs to the wind, to the storm, or to the fiery furnace in front of you, you can experience a special feeling of calm and comfort. Our sweetest songs are those that come out from the painful experiences of life. In Song in the Night, author Mathew Philip reflects on his life and the life of friends and family members who shared their experiences. He tells how writing songs and singing them have a unique way of strengthening our spirits and souls during transitional times.

Book excerpt: Many who have lost a long-time spouse find their remaining years overwhelmingly difficult and empty. Indeed, this arduous journey is like walking through a valley of the shadow of death. Often times, the feelings of loss and loneliness are unbearable. What lies ahead seems like an endless path that brings a plethora of uncertainties and unknowns. The traumatic emotional experience of ones final parting days lingers on and brings back memories of the pain and sadness of seeing a loved one pass away. In this book, the author relays her pain and wavering faith after her husband of forty-two years passes into his heavenly home. Living in an empty house, she too finds the loss and loneliness of death unbearable. Likening her experience to the four seasons of winter, autumn, spring, and summer, she describes the different stages of grieving she endures; from bleak dark winter nights to life-energizing summer days. Most importantly, though, she emphasizes that God never left her side, even at times when He seemed far away. She describes how her faith in a trustworthy God is eventually renewed, and how she regains the strength and stamina to press forward with the goal of carrying on her late husbands unfinished task of bringing the Gospel to developing countries. The Lord has wiped away her tears and replaced her sorrow with laughter. She is able to sing out to the Lord a new song, for it is He who she found walking alongside her in this journey of grieving, healing, and rebuilding.

Book excerpt: A Song in the Night is a verse-by-verse devotional commentary of a true story. Of a sensual, marital, love story. Of a shepherd married to a shepherdess, probably Abishag of I King's 1 and 2 and a seducer who would distract the girl's attention from her husband-lover, her Savior. Solomon is the culprit here for these events took place during his time of grievous, spiritual demise. A time recorded when God Himself pled for the king's spiritual renewal. Captive in Solomon's harem, too, the Daughters of Jerusalem constantly witness the girl's solvent testimony - one of watching, waiting, praying for rescue via her husband-lord's soon return. They become increasingly aware that the girl's husband is Messiah to her and eventually laud the truth of it themselves. A reunion ensues later as Shepherd and Bride return together to celebrate with The Daughters portending the prophetic Dance of Mahanaim, that is -"of two camps". A time yet future when the Judeo-Christian ethic will joyously become one ethic, one ethos, one epoch! Israel and The Church together, forever, happily encompassing Jerusalem. While Yeshua/Shepherd graciously sits the King! A Song in the Night will clearly present the The Song. A book which for centuries has been left unattended, not understood, not interpreted, and archived into abysmal ambiguity. Read on, for to the Lord all song of praise is due. For in Him our song begins and ends.

Book A Song in the Night

Download or read book A Song in the Night written by Bob Massie and published by Nan A. Talese. This book was released on 2012-05-15 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this inspiring memoir of faith and perseverance, Bob Massie recounts how a childhood illness laid the foundation for a life filled with compassion and activism. Bob Massie was born with classical hemophilia, a painful disorder that caused repeated bleeding in his joints and slowly robbed him of the ability to walk. Though bound to leg braces and wheelchairs as a child, his curiosity and enthusiasm pulled him relentlessly outward toward knowledge and people. Gradually he fought back and eventually succeeded not only in walking again but in traveling widely through a life of passion and commitment. He graduated in history from Princeton, where he organized the opening up of the university's exclusive club system, and later was ordained as an Episcopal minister. After several years teaching children and working with the homeless in New York City, he moved to the challenging halls of Harvard Business School, where he earned a doctorate while tending to a devoted but struggling congregation in the working-class city of Somerville, Massachusetts. Though the medical dangers increased—he had acquired the HIV and hepatitis through transfusions for hemophilia—he continued to press for justice. He wrote a prizewinning book on South African apartheid, led one of America's most innovative environmental groups, ran for lieutenant governor in Massachusetts, and created the world's leading standard for corporate sustainability. Then, in 2002, the same year Massie was named one of the 100 most influential people in the field of finance by CFO magazine, he received more devastating health news. The hepatitis was causing his liver to fail, and Massie was brought close to death in 2009. After surviving these remarkable challenges, Bob Massie is now ready to share his story. Though his journey has not been easy, he writes about it with tremendous grace and candor. In an era rife with disillusionment, A Song in the Night will inspire everyone who reads it. "A good friend and a visionary leader, Bob Massie has combined foresight, passion, and skill to create lasting change in the US and around the world. In A Song in the Night, Bob shares deeply personal stories that help describe how he overcame great challenges to forge such strong commitments for his work and family. Bob has lived an incredible life, and we are so fortunate that he has shared it with us in this wonderful new book." —Al Gore "I admire and deeply respect Bob Massie’s courage, his compassion, and his eloquence. He is a good man. His life's work has focused on social justice, public service, and faith, and I know he will continue to work tirelessly to make this a more just world." —Elizabeth Warren

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many talents and skills were blended in the new Oklahoma Territory. Those who made the trip to the Unassigned Lands were not lazy slackers or hangers-on. They were doers with the confidence of those who knew what they did was of value. The performing arts also came. Poetry from the northern state and music from the banks of the Mississippi, came together in the form of two young girls, with the help of a kidnapper and it combined in a most confusing way in a wooded thicket of the newly settled Oklahoma Territory FROM GUNSHOT TO HOMESTEAD is book one of an eight book series, DEEP FORK RIVER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY. This series took place in a unique period of history when new land was deeded on the basis of a gunshot and a footrace. The central nugget of land in the Oklahoma Territory was advertised for settlement, quarter sections were marked out and on the 22 of April, l889 the local Cavalry and other officials started the race at the shot of a gun. On foot... on horses in wagons and in buggies, they struggled for a place to put down roots. Each of these books brings a different family, person, or in one incident, a whole town to settle in the new land. The small town fictional town of Prosper was settled by these immigrants and others. It is generally thought that this incident was the only one of its kind in history. Book one. FROM GUNSHOT TO HOMKESTEAD.
