Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Son of Man: His Life and Ministry This book contains an attempt to describe our Lord's common life, and show its relation to that part of His career which may be dis tinguished as public and official. In speaking of His common life we especially refer to that which He lived during the years of His seclusion at Nazareth, and which naturally passed into His daily habits during the time when He was exercising His public ministry, and especially in the intervals between its chief occasions. Book Walks With Jesus Or Days of the Son of Man Classic Reprint

Download or read book Walks With Jesus Or Days of the Son of Man Classic Reprint written by Daniel March and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Walks With Jesus, or Days of the Son of Man His book of Days in the life of the Son of Man begins with the divine Birth in Bethlehem, and it ends with the divine Ascension from Olivet. But it only takes here and there one of the more human and home-like scenes in the great biography, and tries to make it clear for modern eyes to see. No attempt has been made to write a connected life of Jesus, or to weave into consecutive order the chief events of the Gospel story. Very little exposition has been given of the meaning of the gracious words of Jesus, or of the mystery of his mighty works. We have only tried to put ourselves in the place of thoughtful men, who were looking for the Messiah in his day, and who wondered and wished to know whether Jesus of Nazareth were he that should come. With no theory to defend, no prejudices to gratify, further than the one desire to hear what truth will say from sacred lips, and what love will do with human hands, we have tried to fix a calm and steady gaze upon that wonderful Galilean teacher, as he was seen by the men of his time. Book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome

Download or read book Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome written by R. Kent Hughes and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-01-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year thousands of God's servants leave the ministry convinced they are failures. Years ago, in the midst of a crisis of faith, Kent Hughes almost became one of them. But instead he and his wife Barbara turned to God's Word, determined to learn what God had to say about success and to evaluate their ministry from a biblical point of view. This book describes their journey and their liberation from the "success syndrome"-the misguided belief that success in ministry means increased numbers. In today's world it is easy to be seduced by the secular thinking that places a number on everything. But the authors teach that true success in ministry lies not in numbers but in several key areas: faithfulness, serving, loving, believing, prayer, holiness, and a Christlike attitude. Their thoughts will encourage readers who grapple with feelings of failure and lead them to a deeper, fuller understanding of success in Christian ministry. This book was originally published by Tyndale in 1987 and includes a new preface.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Son of Man: Or Contributions to the Study of the Thoughts of Jesus Hat Jesus is reported in all our gospels - the fourth as well as the three - to have frequently spoken of Himself in the third person as the Son of Man is known to all. But why He thus spoke, and in what sense He used the term, are disputed questions. In the Greek of our gospels it is, literally, the son of the man. What it was in the Aramaic of Christ's words critics are not agreed. Many maintain that He used it as the title of a Messianic, or (which is not the same thing) a supernatural, character. Some assert that He did not use it at all. Being therefore confessedly a subject of critical controversy, the interpretation of Christ's title is liable to be put on one side by some readers of the Gospel who, though careful students of its thought, are not experts in the verbal criticism bearing on it. They may be disposed to decide that about the subject of so much discussion and divergent opinion it is not their business to spend time, since there can be little fruit for their labour. In arrest of this decision, the author ven tures to Offer the following considerations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Message of the Son of Man The present treatise invites the general reader to take a brief and comprehensive view of the results of a long and detailed investigation into the meaning of Christ's self-appellation, in which the investigator starts from the hypothesis that Jesus was more likely to be influenced by the jewish scriptures than by the Jewish apocrypha. The latter should certainly be called in to our aid, but, in the author's judgment, not until the former have been fully utilised.
