Book The Significance of Singleness

Download or read book The Significance of Singleness written by Christina S. Hitchcock and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church needs to do a better job of speaking theologically to single Christians. Challenging prevailing evangelical assumptions about "the problem" of singleness, this book explains why the church needs single people and offers a contemporary theology of singleness relevant to all members of the church. Drawing on the examples of three important figures from the history of Christianity, the book helps today's church form a vision of life in the kingdom of God that is as theologically significant for single people as it is for those who are married.

Book The Meaning of Singleness

Download or read book The Meaning of Singleness written by Danielle Treweek and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is Christian singleness a burden to be endured or a God-ordained vocation? Might singleness here and now give the church a glimpse of God's heavenly promises? Dani Treweek offers biblical, historical, cultural, and theological reflections to retrieve a theology of singleness for the church today. Drawing upon both ancient and contemporary theologians, including Augustine, Ælfric of Eynsham, John Paul II, and Stanley Hauerwas, she contends not only that singleness has served an important role throughout the church's history, but that single Christians present the church with a foretaste of the eschatological reality that awaits all of God's people. Far from being a burden, then, Christian singleness is among the highest vocations of the faith.

Book Singleness in God s Redemptive Story

Download or read book Singleness in God s Redemptive Story written by Barry Danylak and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2022-09-06 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For generations, the predominant message in the church has been that to live a complete and happy life, one must marry and have children. And while this does bring joy and fulfillment for many, other Christians are called to a life of singleness—or become single due to the death of a spouse or divorce. Pastor Barry Danylak was inspired to write Singleness in God's Redemptive Story based on his own experience in the church as a single person, combined with his study and reflection on singleness in Scripture. This compelling condensed theology examines the topic theologically in relationship to the developing biblical narrative, focusing on how marriage and singleness relate to the Old and New Testament covenants, the theological motif of offspring, as well as the singleness of Jesus and Paul. Singleness in God's Redemptive Story will greatly benefit Christian singles in understanding how they are fully complete in Christ and will equip pastors and church leaders with an understanding of the theological significance of singleness within the flow of redemption history. This concise biblical theology is a must-read for all those in ministry leadership. With thought-provoking discussion questions at the end of each chapter, Singleness in God's Redemptive Story can be read individually or used as a small group study guide.

Book The Significance Test Controversy

Download or read book The Significance Test Controversy written by Ramon E. Henkel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests of significance have been a key tool in the research kit of behavioral scientists for nearly fifty years, but their widespread and uncritical use has recently led to a rising volume of controversy about their usefulness. This book gathers the central papers in this continuing debate, brings the issues into clear focus, points out practical problems and philosophical pitfalls involved in using the tests, and provides a benchmark from which further analysis can proceed. The papers deal with some of the basic philosophy of science, mathematical and statistical assumptions connected with significance tests and the problems of the interpretation of test results, but the work is essentially non-technical in its emphasis. The collection succeeds in raising a variety of questions about the value of the tests; taken together, the questions present a strong case for vital reform in test use, if not for their total abandonment in research. The book is designed for practicing researchers-those not extensively trained in mathematics and statistics that must nevertheless regularly decide if and how tests of significance are to be used-and for those training for research. While controversy has been centered in sociology and psychology, and the book will be especially useful to researchers and students in those fields, its importance is great across the spectrum of the scientific disciplines in which statistical procedures are essential-notably political science, economics, and the other social sciences, education, and many biological fields as well.Denton E. Morrison is professor, Department of Sociology, Michigan State University.Ramon E. Henkel is associate professor emeritus, Department of Sociology University of Maryland. He teaches as part of the graduate faculty.

Book The Significance of the Ark Narrative

Download or read book The Significance of the Ark Narrative written by James M. Street and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Significance of the Ark Narrative: Literary Formation and Artistry in the Book of Chronicles argues that there is only one author responsible for the second part of the ark narrative (1 Chr 15-16). The lists and unique material that are found within the narrative play an important literary role in the work. Other parts of the book of Chronicles, such as the genealogies (1 Chr 1-9) and David's organization of the cult and civil servants (1 Chr 23-27) are also open to redaction criticism. The findings suggest that they also require a single author. This makes the role of the clergy one of the Chronicler's own emphasis, which means that David's organization of the clergy portrays Israel as a cultic community. It is worship planned by David and carried out under the authority of the Levites and priests that is consistently emphasized throughout the book. Therefore, the ark narrative should be viewed as the thematic and theological foundation of the book.

Book The Significance of Linguistic Diversity in the Hebrew Bible

Download or read book The Significance of Linguistic Diversity in the Hebrew Bible written by Cian Power and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2023-03-10 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cian J. Power explores how the biblical authors viewed and presented a fundamental human reality: the existence of the world's many languages. By examining explicit references to this diversity - such as the ambivalent account of its origins in the Tower of Babel episode - and implicit acknowledgements that included the use of strange-sounding speech to portray alien peoples, he illuminates ideas about Aramaic, Egyptian, Akkadian, and other ancient languages. Drawing on sociolinguistics, Power detects a consistent link between language and - ethnic, political, religious, and divine/human boundaries, and argues that changing historical circumstances are key to the Bible's varying attitudes. Furthermore, the study's findings regarding the biblical authors' ideas about their own language and its importance challenge our very notion of Hebrew.

Book Significance in Language

Download or read book Significance in Language written by Jim Feist and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unique perspective on meaning in language, broadening the scope of existing understanding of meaning by introducing a comprehensive and cohesive account of meaning that draws on a wide range of linguistic approaches. The volume seeks to build up a complete picture of what meaning is, different types of meaning, and different ways of structuring the same meaning across myriad forms and varieties of language across such domains, such as everyday speech, advertising, humour, and academic writing. Supported by data from psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic research, the book combines different approaches from scholarship in semantics, including formalist, structuralist, cognitive, functionalist, and semiotics to demonstrate the ways in which meaning is expressed in words but also in word order and intonation. The book argues for a revised conceptualisation of meaning toward presenting a new perspective on semantics and its wider study in language and linguistic research. This book will appeal to scholars interested in meaning in language in such fields as linguistics, semantics, and semiotics. Book A Beginner s Guide to Structural Equation Modeling

Download or read book A Beginner s Guide to Structural Equation Modeling written by Randall E. Schumacker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noted for its crystal clear explanations, this book is considered the most comprehensive introductory text to structural equation modeling (SEM). Noted for its thorough review of basic concepts and a wide variety of models, this book better prepares readers to apply SEM to a variety of research questions. Programming details and the use of algebra are kept to a minimum to help readers easily grasp the concepts so they can conduct their own analysis and critique related research. Featuring a greater emphasis on statistical power and model validation than other texts, each chapter features key concepts, examples from various disciplines, tables and figures, a summary, and exercises. Highlights of the extensively revised 4th edition include: -Uses different SEM software (not just Lisrel) including Amos, EQS, LISREL, Mplus, and R to demonstrate applications. -Detailed introduction to the statistical methods related to SEM including correlation, regression, and factor analysis to maximize understanding (Chs. 1 – 6). -The 5 step approach to modeling data (specification, identification, estimation, testing, and modification) is now covered in more detail and prior to the modeling chapters to provide a more coherent view of how to create models and interpret results (ch. 7). -More discussion of hypothesis testing, power, sampling, effect sizes, and model fit, critical topics for beginning modelers (ch. 7). - Each model chapter now focuses on one technique to enhance understanding by providing more description, assumptions, and interpretation of results, and an exercise related to analysis and output (Chs. 8 -15). -The use of SPSS AMOS diagrams to describe the theoretical models. -The key features of each of the software packages (Ch. 1). -Guidelines for reporting SEM research (Ch. 16). -www.routledge.com/9781138811935 which provides access to data sets that can be used with any program, links to other SEM examples, related readings, and journal articles, and more. Reorganized, the new edition begins with a more detailed introduction to SEM including the various software packages available, followed by chapters on data entry and editing, and correlation which is critical to understanding how missing data, non-normality, measurement, and restriction of range in scores affects SEM analysis. Multiple regression, path, and factor models are then reviewed and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis is introduced. These chapters demonstrate how observed variables share variance in defining a latent variables and introduce how measurement error can be removed from observed variables. Chapter 7 details the 5 SEM modeling steps including model specification, identification, estimation, testing, and modification along with a discussion of hypothesis testing and the related issues of power, and sample and effect sizes.Chapters 8 to 15 provide comprehensive introductions to different SEM models including Multiple Group, Second-Order CFA, Dynamic Factor, Multiple-Indicator Multiple-Cause, Mixed Variable and Mixture, Multi-Level, Latent Growth, and SEM Interaction Models. Each of the 5 SEM modeling steps is explained for each model along with an application. Chapter exercises provide practice with and enhance understanding of the analysis of each model. The book concludes with a review of SEM guidelines for reporting research. Designed for introductory graduate courses in structural equation modeling, factor analysis, advanced, multivariate, or applied statistics, quantitative techniques, or statistics II taught in psychology, education, business, and the social and healthcare sciences, this practical book also appeals to researchers in these disciplines. Prerequisites include an introduction to intermediate statistics that covers correlation and regression principles.
