It is based on the wrong belief that love, acceptance, security, success, closeness and salvation are all dependent upon one's ability to do "the right thing." In the process, the co-dependent denies who he really is. Once addicted, the codependent becomes blind to the reality of his own behavior and to his own self-worth. A witty and well-told story, Lost In The Shuffle is written for those who seek to find themselves and break free of their troubled past and their present addiction to the rules the do-dependent lives by. Robert Subby presents new insights in an earthy, honest manner and shares the process of recovery with all who have been lost in the shuffle.

Book On Maps from Loop Suspensions to Loop Spaces and the Shuffle Relations on the Cohen Groups

Download or read book On Maps from Loop Suspensions to Loop Spaces and the Shuffle Relations on the Cohen Groups written by Jie Wu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The maps from loop suspensions to loop spaces are investigated using group representations in this article. The shuffle relations on the Cohen groups are given. By using these relations, a universal ring for functorial self maps of double loop spaces of double suspensions is given. Moreover the obstructions to the classical exponent problem in homotopy theory are displayed in the extension groups of the dual of the important symmetric group modules Lie$(n)$, as well as in the top cohomology of the Artin braid groups with coefficients in the top homology of the Artin pure braid groups.

Book Harlem Shuffle

Download or read book Harlem Shuffle written by Colson Whitehead and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Underground Railroad and The Nickel Boys, this gloriously entertaining novel is “fast-paced, keen-eyed and very funny ... about race, power and the history of Harlem all disguised as a thrill-ride crime novel" (San Francisco Chronicle). "Ray Carney was only slightly bent when it came to being crooked..." To his customers and neighbors on 125th street, Carney is an upstanding salesman of reasonably priced furniture, making a decent life for himself and his family. He and his wife Elizabeth are expecting their second child, and if her parents on Striver's Row don't approve of him or their cramped apartment across from the subway tracks, it's still home. Few people know he descends from a line of uptown hoods and crooks, and that his façade of normalcy has more than a few cracks in it. Cracks that are getting bigger all the time. Cash is tight, especially with all those installment-plan sofas, so if his cousin Freddie occasionally drops off the odd ring or necklace, Ray doesn't ask where it comes from. He knows a discreet jeweler downtown who doesn't ask questions, either. Then Freddie falls in with a crew who plan to rob the Hotel Theresa—the "Waldorf of Harlem"—and volunteers Ray's services as the fence. The heist doesn't go as planned; they rarely do. Now Ray has a new clientele, one made up of shady cops, vicious local gangsters, two-bit pornographers, and other assorted Harlem lowlifes. Thus begins the internal tussle between Ray the striver and Ray the crook. As Ray navigates this double life, he begins to see who actually pulls the strings in Harlem. Can Ray avoid getting killed, save his cousin, and grab his share of the big score, all while maintaining his reputation as the go-to source for all your quality home furniture needs? Harlem Shuffle's ingenious story plays out in a beautifully recreated New York City of the early 1960s. It's a family saga masquerading as a crime novel, a hilarious morality play, a social novel about race and power, and ultimately a love letter to Harlem. But mostly, it's a joy to read, another dazzling novel from the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning Colson Whitehead. Look for Colson Whitehead’s new novel, Crook Manifesto!

Book Shuffle Along

Download or read book Shuffle Along written by Noble Sissle and published by A-R Editions, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-11-30 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Broadway musical Shuffle Along—with book by Flournoy Miller and Aubrey Lyles, lyrics by Noble Sissle, and music by Eubie Blake—premiered on 23 May 1921 at the Cort Theatre on 63rd Street and became the first overwhelmingly successful African American musical on Broadway. Langston Hughes, who saw the production, said that Shuffle Along marked the beginning of the Harlem Renaissance. Both black and white audiences swarmed to the show, which prompted the integration of subsequent Broadway audiences. The dances were such a smash that choreographers for white Broadway shows hired Shuffle Along chorus girls to teach their chorus lines the new steps. “Love Will Find a Way,” the first successful unburlesqued love song in a black Broadway show, was so well-received that audiences demanded multiple encores. The show’s influences went far beyond Broadway: Some of the period’s most influential black musicians, including dancer Josephine Baker, vocalist Paul Robeson, composer Hall Johnson, and composer William Grant Still, all got their start in Shuffle Along. The editors have assembled the full score and libretto for this critical edition from the original performance materials. The critical report thoroughly explains all sources and editorial decisions. The accompanying scholarly essay examines the music, dances, and script of Shuffle Along and places this influential show in its social, racial, and historical context.

Book Shuffle Approach Towards Quantum Affine and Toroidal Algebras

Download or read book Shuffle Approach Towards Quantum Affine and Toroidal Algebras written by Alexander Tsymbaliuk and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-08-07 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the author's mini course delivered at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology in March 2019. The shuffle approach to Drinfeld–Jimbo quantum groups of finite type (embedding their "positive" subalgebras into q-deformed shuffle algebras) was first developed independently in the 1990s by J. Green, M. Rosso, and P. Schauenburg. Motivated by similar ideas, B. Feigin and A. Odesskii proposed a shuffle approach to elliptic quantum groups around the same time. The shuffle algebras in the present book can be viewed as trigonometric degenerations of the Feigin–Odesskii elliptic shuffle algebras. They provide combinatorial models for the "positive" subalgebras of quantum affine algebras in their loop realizations. These algebras appeared first in that context in the work of B. Enriquez. Over the last decade, the shuffle approach has been applied to various problems in combinatorics (combinatorics of Macdonald polynomials and Dyck paths, generalization to wreath Macdonald polynomials and operators), geometric representation theory (especially the study of quantum algebras’ actions on the equivariant K-theories of various moduli spaces such as affine Laumon spaces, Nakajima quiver varieties, nested Hilbert schemes), and mathematical physics (the Bethe ansatz, quantum Q-systems, and quantized Coulomb branches of quiver gauge theories, to name just a few). While this area is still under active investigation, the present book focuses on quantum affine/toroidal algebras of type A and their shuffle realization, which have already illustrated a broad spectrum of techniques. The basic results and structures discussed in the book are of crucial importance for studying intrinsic properties of quantum affinized algebras and are instrumental to the aforementioned applications.
