Book The Shakespeare Canon Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Shakespeare Canon Classic Reprint written by J. M. Robertson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Shakespeare Canon Old doubts as to the possibility of getting attention for such inquiries have been partly removed by the welcome emergence, in this field, of Messrs. Pollard and Dover Wilson, who in 1919 asked the readers of the Times Literary Supplement whether Shakespeare was likely to write in 1599 in the manner of certain passages cited by them from henry V. The same challenge may as fitly be put with regard to much of julius cesar. After many more revisions, accordingly, I have since decided to table certain discussions as putting some of the more prominent problems that have arisen for me in Shakespeare study, the origination of henry V being one of them. Others have been set forth in previous essays these, which before were but outlined, are now handled at some - I hope not undue length, after a renewed pilgrimage. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Shakespeare and His Welsh Characters Then we have another universally accepted canon of Shakespearean criticism, viz., that this consistency of character was the result of a definite intention. As Coleridge explains: He never wrote at random, or hit upon points of character and conduct by chance and the smallest fragment of his mind, not infrequently gives a clue to a most perfect, regular, and consistent whole. Book A Leg up on the Canon Book 1

Download or read book A Leg up on the Canon Book 1 written by Jim McGahern and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare had extraordinary intelligence, unheard-of powers of observation and interpretation, a soaring imagination, a way with words that defies description, and a defining interest in the theater. He brought kings, queens, heroes, and peasantry to the stage so they could be seen in a more realistic fashion. Even so, in modern times, assistance is often needed to interpret Shakespeares work. In A Leg Up on the Canon, author Jim McGahern provides an extensive biography of Shakespeare and offers an introductory guide to his histories, comedies, tragedies, romances, and poems. McGahern presents summaries of the texts, explanations of difficult passages, extensive historical context, and glossaries of terms no longer in use. In each volume, he outlines the plot of plays in that category and then delivers a one-act play with inclusive commentary. McGahern includes pertinent remarks and important speeches and soliloquies interlaced with brief explanations and descriptions of the actions on stage as well as plot developments. A Leg Up on the Canon, a four-volume series, provides insights into the word music of the talented man from Stratford.
