Book The Sexual Life of Woman in Its Physiological Pathological and Hygienic Aspects

Download or read book The Sexual Life of Woman in Its Physiological Pathological and Hygienic Aspects written by E. Heinrich Kisch and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sexual Life of Woman in Its Physiological, Pathological and Hygienic Aspects The sexual life of woman - the appearance of the first indications of sexual activity, the development of that activity and its culmination in sexual-maturity, the decline of that activity and its ultimate extinction in sexual death - the entire process of the most perfect work of natural creation - has throughout all ages kindled the inspiration of poets, aroused the enthusiasm of artists, and supplied thinkers with inexhaustible material for reflection. In the following pages, this sexual life of woman will be considered both in relation to the female genital organs, and in relation to the feminine organism as a whole; in relation both to the physical and to the mental development of the individual; and in relation alike to the state of health and to the processes of disease. Thus from the standpoint of clinical investigation and of practical experience, the book will be a contribution towards the solution of the sexual problem, nowadays recognized as one of supreme importance. It is thirty years since I published a work on the histological changes that occur in the ovaries during the climacteric period (Archiv. für Gynecologie, Vol. xii, Section 3); and ever since that time, the influence exerted upon the general health of women by the physiological and pathological processes occurring in their reproductive organs, has been to me a favourite subject for observation and experiment. The result of these studies is incorporated in my monographs, "The Climacteric Period in Women" (Erlangen, 1874), "Sterility in Women" (2nd Ed., Vienna, 1895), "The Uterus and the Heart" (Leipzig, 1898), and in various contributions to medical periodicals. I now have a welcome opportunity of drawing a general picture of sexual activity in women, and of illuminating this picture both by the light of my own experience and by numerous references to the works of other authors. In passing, I have devoted considerable attention to questions of education and personal hygiene, both of which are greatly influenced by the processes of the sexual life. Thus, I hope, the work will be rendered more interesting to the physician, and the general picture it is intended to convey will be more fully characterized by contemporary actuality. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rational Sex Ethics: A Physiological and Psychological Study of the Sex Lives of Normal Men and Women, With Suggestions for a Rational Sex Hygiene Together With Further Investigations; Books I and II My amusements have been, reading all kinds of fiction, philately, boating and an occasional half day hunting or fishing. These, with an evening now and then at the club, at pool or whist, or an occasional evening at the opera, complete the list, I think. I have been busy and in perfect health. My powers of endurance of physical and mental fatigue are, I think, unusual. I frequently go several consecutive days and nights without sleep with little noticeable discomfort. I am, first, last and all the time, an optimist; I ate, for many years, four meals a day; I sleep, ordinarily, three to eight hours a night, and at 4-8 look ten years older because of being very gray. All summer I spend from 10 to 14 hours a day in ordinary farm work and much time in similar employment all the year around. Book Feminism and the Body

    Book Details:
  • Author : Catherine Kevin
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2009-12-14
  • ISBN : 1443817848
  • Pages : 250 pages

Download or read book Feminism and the Body written by Catherine Kevin and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12-14 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By definition, feminism is concerned with the historical, social and political meanings of sexual difference in the human body, and the spectrum of experiences those meanings produce. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, gendered forms of violence persist, abortion remains a political issue, reproductive and cosmetic technologies and their concomitant ethical questions are proliferating, and the presence of women’s bodies in public spaces and for public consumption produces a range of anxieties about women’s well-being and the common good. Feminist scholars from across the disciplines grapple with these issues in Feminism and the Body. In so doing they continue a history of intellectual endeavor that, for centuries, has striven to identify the interplay between corporeal differences and relationships of power. This collection will take the reader on a journey into myriad domains in which a variety of discursive effects come to life in the embodied subject: from the theatres of medical surgery and law to the discussion fora of sex therapy and marriage guidance experts; from Peruvian villages of the late twentieth century to African American plays of the 1920s and 1930s; from explicitly feminist novels and films to the mainstream press and right into feminist scholarship that theorises the female body. In so doing, this collection restates and reinvigorates feminism’s long-standing, necessary and emphatic engagement with the female body.
