D. 787, in Which the Worship of Images Was Established, With Copious Notes From the "Caroline Books," Compiled by Order of Charlemagne for Its Confutation It must be traced to the idolatrous tendency of the human heart, and its propensity to serve the creature more than the Creator. Taking advantage of this, the great enemy of souls, who led the human race astray in times of old afier gods many and lords manv, rested not till he had seduced the Christian Church into like error: turning Christians aside, first, from Christ to Saint and Angel mediators and then, from pure and spiri tual worship, to the worship of images and pictures. The Church had been assailed by fierce persecution against this she had stood her ground, and by the grace of God was made more than conqueror. But though equal and even superior to all the assaults made by the enemy in this way, she was less on her guard against the attempts afterwards too successfully made to sully her purity and corrupt her simplicity by adversity she was made great - in her prosperity was her fall. Download or read book Bible Lessons For Catholics written by Mary E. Walsh and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Walsh, the author, was born in a Roman Catholic family in Ireland. Her forebears for many generations back were confirmed believers in the doctrines of the papacy. Baptized into the Roman Church when only one day old, she continued a faithful communicant of that religious body for 20 years. Then, becoming interested in reading the Sacred Scriptures, she was led by her studies to renounce the papal faith. Thereafter devoting her energies to the propagation of the evangelical doctrines found in Holy Writ, she has had many years of success in teaching the gospel truths to others. This book does not propose to delve into the abstruse, philosophical discussions by notable theologians of the Roman Catholic Church, but rather presents a candid and practical study of the principal papal doctrines as they are taught to the rank and file of that sect.
