Book Cataloging with AACR2 and MARC21

Download or read book Cataloging with AACR2 and MARC21 written by Deborah A. Fritz and published by American Library Association. This book was released on 2007 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent changes in both cataloging rules (AACR2) and MARC coding standards (MARC21) mean that for catalogers to create or edit records effectively, they need new up-to-date guidance. In a unique one-stop guide, cataloging expert Fritz provides the hands-on cross-references between AACR2 and MARC21 required for easy online cataloging. The 2006 Cumulation brings the second edition up-to-date with the inclusion of the 2004, 2005, and 2006 updates. Designed to streamline the process and avoid errors, the book is organized in order of MARC tags. Following this step-by-step guide, users can: Identify the rules that govern each MARC field Match resources to records Edit records Create new records easily Clone records for different editions Make individual MARC records "play well" with others in the database. Beginning catalogers can use this guide to create simple records while experienced catalogers will be able to identify specific rules. Fritz also helps copy catalogers pick better matching records, and systems librarians understand the content of records at the core of their collections. Providing clear, practical, easy-to-use guidance, this authoritative reference is the premier resource for students and instructors as a basis for creating and editing consistently good MARC records. Available in loose-leaf format to fit in a standard 3-ring binder.

Book Modeling and Simulation in the Systems Engineering Life Cycle

Download or read book Modeling and Simulation in the Systems Engineering Life Cycle written by Margaret L. Loper and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This easy to read text provides a broad introduction to the fundamental concepts of modeling and simulation (M&S) and systems engineering, highlighting how M&S is used across the entire systems engineering lifecycle. Features: reviews the full breadth of technologies, methodologies and uses of M&S, rather than just focusing on a specific aspect of the field; presents contributions from specialists in each topic covered; introduces the foundational elements and processes that serve as the groundwork for understanding M&S; explores common methods and methodologies used in M&S; discusses how best to design and execute experiments, covering the use of Monte Carlo techniques, surrogate modeling and distributed simulation; explores the use of M&S throughout the systems development lifecycle, describing a number of methods, techniques, and tools available to support systems engineering processes; provides a selection of case studies illustrating the use of M&S in systems engineering across a variety of domains.

Book Deadlock Resolution in Computer Integrated Systems

Download or read book Deadlock Resolution in Computer Integrated Systems written by MengChu Zhou and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex computer-integrated systems offer enormous benefits across a wide array of applications, including automated production, transportation, concurrent software, and computer operating systems, computer networks, distributed database systems, and many other automated systems. Yet, as these systems become more complex, automated, distributed, and computing-intensive, the opportunity for deadlock issues rises exponentially. Deadlock modeling, detection, avoidance, and recovery are critical to improving system performance. Deadlock Resolution in Computer-Integrated Systems is the first text to summarize and comprehensively treat this issue in a systematic manner. Consisting of contributions from prominent researchers in the field, this book addresses deadlock-free models and scheduling, detection and recovery methods, the formulation of dynamic control policies, and comparison and industrial benchmark studies that evaluate various approaches. The editors lay the foundation for exploring deadlock issues with a typical example of an automated manufacturing process, illustrating three primary modeling methods (digraphs, Petri nets, and automata) and comparing their respective advantages and disadvantages. Providing all of the important models and resolution approaches, this book is the complete guide for electrical and control engineers and manufacturing, intelligent, and network systems designers to prevent and manage deadlock issues in their systems.

Book Robot Vision

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gerald Sommer
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2008-01-29
  • ISBN : 3540781579
  • Pages : 477 pages

Download or read book Robot Vision written by Gerald Sommer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-29 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1986, B.K.P. Horn published a book entitled Robot Vision, which actually discussed a wider ?eld of subjects, basically addressing the ?eld of computer vision, but introducing “robot vision” as a technical term. Since then, the - teraction between computer vision and research on mobile systems (often called “robots”, e.g., in an industrial context, but also including vehicles, such as cars, wheelchairs, tower cranes, and so forth) established a diverse area of research, today known as robot vision. Robot vision (or, more general, robotics) is a fast-growing discipline, already taught as a dedicated teaching program at university level. The term “robot vision” addresses any autonomous behavior of a technical system supported by visual sensoric information. While robot vision focusses on the vision process, visual robotics is more directed toward control and automatization. In practice, however, both ?elds strongly interact. Robot Vision 2008 was the second international workshop, counting a 2001 workshop with identical name as the ?rst in this series. Both workshops were organized in close cooperation between researchers from New Zealand and Germany, and took place at The University of Auckland, New Zealand. Participants of the 2008 workshop came from Europe, USA, South America, the Middle East, the Far East, Australia, and of course from New Zealand.

Download or read book Abductive Inference written by John R. Josephson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-08-28 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about abduction, 'the logic of Sherlock Holmes', and about how some kinds of abductive reasoning can be programmed in a computer. The work brings together Artificial Intelligence and philosophy of science and is rich with implications for other areas such as, psychology, medical informatics, and linguistics. It also has subtle implications for evidence evaluation in areas such as accident investigation, confirmation of scientific theories, law, diagnosis, and financial auditing. The book is about certainty and the logico-computational foundations of knowledge; it is about inference in perception, reasoning strategies, and building expert systems.
