Book Electric Power Distribution Handbook

Download or read book Electric Power Distribution Handbook written by Thomas Allen Short and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 900 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the "big three" components of electrical infrastructure, distribution typically gets the least attention. In fact, a thorough, up-to-date treatment of the subject hasn’t been published in years, yet deregulation and technical changes have increased the need for better information. Filling this void, the Electric Power Distribution Handbook delivers comprehensive, cutting-edge coverage of the electrical aspects of power distribution systems. The first few chapters of this pragmatic guidebook focus on equipment-oriented information and applications such as choosing transformer connections, sizing and placing capacitors, and setting regulators. The middle portion discusses reliability and power quality, while the end tackles lightning protection, grounding, and safety. The Second Edition of this CHOICE Award winner features: 1 new chapter on overhead line performance and 14 fully revised chapters incorporating updates from several EPRI projects New sections on voltage optimization, arc flash, and contact voltage Full-color illustrations throughout, plus fresh bibliographic references, tables, graphs, methods, and statistics Updates on conductor burndown, fault location, reliability programs, tree contacts, automation, and grounding and personnel protection Access to an author-maintained support website, distributionhandbook.com, with problems sets, resources, and online apps An unparalleled source of tips and solutions for improving performance, the Electric Power Distribution Handbook, Second Edition provides power and utility engineers with the technical information and practical tools they need to understand the applied science of distribution.

Book The New York Electrical Handbook

Download or read book The New York Electrical Handbook written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-09 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The New York Electrical Handbook: Being a Guide for Visitors From Abroad Attending the International Electrical Congress, St. Louis, Mo; September, 1904 New York City, the metropolis of the United States and the largest and wealthiest city in the Western Hemisphere, is finely situated 011 the islands and mainland at the mouth of the Hudson River. The population of the city in 1903 was estimated by the United States Census Bureau at 3,716,139. In point of numbers, as well as from a commercial and financial standpoint, the city is second to London alone among the great cities of the world. Although owing to the configuration of State boundaries certain neighboring cities, such as Jersey City, Newark and Paterson, lie in the State of New Jersey and can not be reckoned as a part of the city in a political sense, they should, nevertheless, be considered in the Metropolitan area, and with this addition the total population is increased to about 4,500,000. The original settlement was made in the southern end of Manhattan Island in 1624 by the Dutch, and was known as New Amsterdam. After its capture by the English in 1664, the city, which had grown as far up the island as Wall street, was renamed New York, in honor of James. Duke of York, to whom the province was granted by his brother, Charles II. One hundred years later, just before the outbreak of the Revolution, the city extended to where the City Hall now stands. In 1858 the Fifth Avenue Hotel stood at the northern end of the city, but the opening of the elevated railways between 1877 and 1880 gave a great impetus to the northward growth of the city, until to-day the whole of Manhattan Island, from end to end, is densely populated, with the exception of the spaces reserved for public parks. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Boston Electrical Handbook: Being a Guide for Visitors From Abroad Attending the International Electrical Congress, St. Louis, September, 1904 This little volume is intended to set before our distinguished guests from across the sea something of the achievements of New England and of boston, which is the educational and technical centre of New England, in the applications of electricity. Boston has been the pioneer in many successful enterprises, and has earned an honorable reputation in particular in the various branches of electrical science. It has. moreover, a distinguished reputation in the training of electrical engineers, as well as in pure science, and has furnished the capital and the brains for many successes elsewhere in the United States. It is hoped that these pages will give at least a broad view of the technical features of interest in and about Greater Boston. The earnest thanks of the Committee of Publication are due to the various organizations which have most heartily and enthusiastically co-operated with them in pushing this volume to completion, and particularly to a group of gentlemen, not members of the committee, who have freely and cordially given their time and labor to the work. Messrs. J. Harvey White, H. E. Reynolds, W. S. Allen, T. D. Lockwood, E. B. Pillsbury, F. E. Barker. W. D'A. Ryan, C. F. Ames, and Gen. Thomas Sherwin should receive the special thanks of the committee for their share in the task ; and also the Congregational Publishing Company of Boston, for the loan of several illustrations not otherwise obtainable. The Stanhope Press, printers, and C. J. Peters & Co., engravers, should also receive clue credit for their exceptional promptness in the all-important mechanical work of transforming the manuscript into this volume.
